Server/Network remote management
and monitoring services are an immediate,
flexible management solution that can
help you realise the full value of your
server/network environment.
The level of cover involves monitoring the
server hardware for any unusual activity,
via alarms generated by the chosen toolset.
When an alarm is received from any of the
monitored servers or devices, we shall be
notified remotely through our Voyager
Managed Service (VMS) Monitoring
consoles. The alarms that are triggered
fall into categories according to the
‘seriousness’ of the event. The majority
of alarms that are triggered are of a
non critical nature; simply generating
information that is key in keeping the
system optimised. These events are
recorded and can make up part of the
report that will be provided.
Through the pro-active nature of the
service, we are maintaining awareness of
system and service availability and are
better able to identify, address, and resolve
IT health issues before they become serious
problems. The monitoring agents which
we install will ensure that relevant and
important information is captured,
evaluated, and presented to us to make
recommendations on action to be taken
before a critical fault occurs.

System Review and Implementation
Prior to implementation, a detailed on-site system and network
review is undertaken at each site to ensure that any problems or
potential problems are clearly identified. The review is conducted
by directly employed, highly qualified Consultant Engineers.
Any network problems or inefficiencies whether caused by
inappropriate hardware, software faults or mis-configuration will
be identified at this early stage. A complete system assessment
report is then produced that will detail the findings of the System
Review and set out a recommended ‘Action Plan’ for enhancing
the system if required.
This consultancy will also provide us with the information to decide
on the most suitable agent templates to install in order to gather
the relevant information from your servers or devices; or in fact
whether any tailored templates will need to be written.
Once the assessment report’s findings have been actioned we will
complete the implementation by installing the Monitoring Agent/s
on all servers / devices and by creating a Virtual Private Network
(VPN) link between the two companies, via a dedicated DSL line.
At this point you will be allocated a dedicated VMS Account
Manager within the VMS administration team.	
The cost of any remedial work (for example: ensuring servers are at
the latest service pack release etc) for the servers to be monitored
can only be calculated after completion of this consultancy. It
may in fact be decided that not all servers require monitoring due
to the nature of the function they carry out within the network.
Installation of the monitoring software agents will have to take
place regardless of any such remedial work, which normally takes
approximately 1 engineering day per 2 servers.
	 What we do and how we do it
	
We will monitor your Servers / Devices 24 hours a day, 365 days a
year by providing a clear view of their components, using our
SNMP monitoring toolset, which in turn also draws operational
information from any onboard management tools and log files.

	It provides network views in an intuitive graphical format
	It discovers network devices and provides a map to illustrate the 	
	 structure of the network and the status of devices and segments
	 When a major device fails, the event correlation engine evaluates 	
	 the event stream to pinpoint the root cause of failure
	 Other capabilities will help us prevent problems by identifying 	
	 potential trouble spots before a failure occurs
	 Our VMS administration team will be able to manage the
	 network more intelligently, leading to increased network up-time 	
	 and lower costs.
