• 20+ PMs in the department

• Engineers as supporting staff (specialize in
  their own areas)

• Sells hardware  provide services

• Sets up data storage and network
• Ensures that hardware goes in smoothly

• Checks that everything runs properly

• Keep track of $$ (make sure it makes money)
- Do not exceed the budget cost
- Keep costs within control

• Please customers
• Not experts in technical stuff

• But has to know enough about it

• Works mainly with customers

• Main contact with customers
Challenges
• Logistic: Delivery shortages

• Technical: Problems/issues with starting up programs

•  communication important

• Balance between making money and making customers
  happy

• Customer complaints

• Delayed projects
• Mobility

• Given amounts (budgets) to support working from home

• Flexibility of location, etc.

• Flexibility of working hours
 but customer’s demand may require extension in working hours
 late hours: SingPower – systems have to be available most of the
  time so alterations have to be done late at night

• Convenience: saves time, saves space, saves transport costs, etc.
Ensure the project goes well
• Key performance indicator (KPI)

• Requirement to deliver a project within a limited
  time, profit, and customer satisfaction

• Report on project progress and profit

• Once a month meeting with bosses
 Progress is monitored and given feedback
Routine
•   No fixed routine
•   Each project differs
•   Meetings  find out what customers want
•   Planning the project
•   Ensuring engineers do the right things
•   Wrapping up the whole project
•   Checking email daily (important since it is the
    main form of communication)
• Up to 4-5 projects at a time
• Varies between large scale and small scale
  projects
• Frequent meeting of customers (formal
  meeting once a week)
Update them on project status
• Delivery – signatures ensure agreements
• 1 Major project (year long)
• Medium projects (3-4 months)
• International projects (handled through
  conference calls)
• Dress code: at home is flexible

• Meeting customers: formal with tie
   OR depending on customers (match their
  attires)

  • 3. • Ensures that hardware goes in smoothly • Checks that everything runs properly • Keep track of $$ (make sure it makes money) - Do not exceed the budget cost - Keep costs within control • Please customers
  • 4. • Not experts in technical stuff • But has to know enough about it • Works mainly with customers • Main contact with customers
  • 5. Challenges • Logistic: Delivery shortages • Technical: Problems/issues with starting up programs •  communication important • Balance between making money and making customers happy • Customer complaints • Delayed projects
  • 6. • Mobility • Given amounts (budgets) to support working from home • Flexibility of location, etc. • Flexibility of working hours  but customer’s demand may require extension in working hours  late hours: SingPower – systems have to be available most of the time so alterations have to be done late at night • Convenience: saves time, saves space, saves transport costs, etc.

  • 11. • Dress code: at home is flexible • Meeting customers: formal with tie  OR depending on customers (match their attires)
