PUBLIC POLICY BREAKFAST
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 2015
2. 8:00 - 9:30am
SPECIAL GUEST: John Pérez, Assembly Speaker Emeritus
"I still have my Head Start diploma," Pérez
says. "There was an expectation of a certain
amount of parental involvement." A good
education, he emphasizes, "absolutely begins
at home."
In 2015, CHSA will be introducing its first state legislative bill, to create a birth to
five license for child development centers. Come learn about this proposal and catch
up on other state and federal proposals affecting early childhood programs, in the ever
changing political landscape. As a special guest, we are honored to have California
State Assembly Speaker Emeritus John Pérez, who is also a Head Start
alum. Speaker Pérez will reflect on his leadership role in the California Legislature,
championing early education for at risk children.
CHSA LEGISLATIVE TEAM
Donna Sneeringer and Wendi Mahaney will be leading CHSA's advocacy in the 2015
California Legislative session.
Donna Sneeringer, Governmental Relations
Donna currently directs Governmental Relations at the Child
Care Resource Center and previously served as the Public
Affairs Manager for Child Action (Sacramento's R&R
Agency). CCRC is partnering with CHSA to support our
policy advocacy.
3. Wendi Mahaney, Advocacy and Communications
Wendi has been supporting the field of Early Care Education
and Youth Development for over 25 years and is currently
consulting for severalstatewide organizations. She will
brief attendees at the Policy Breakfast.
As CHSA prepares our advocacy agenda for the next year, we'd like to
remind you of $2 per Child, the Head Start fundraising tool which supports
State and Federal advocacy. Many of your agencies have staff and parents
who have participated. Half of the funds raised go for state advocacy and
half for national advocacy. To facilitate your local Dollar per Child efforts,
CHSA has created a resource: Dollar per Child Toolkit. Please share this resource with your
Policy Council and Site Councils.
