To whom it may concern:
I have known Yun (Annie) Peng for just over a year, including eight months in 2015, when I
served as Interim Executive Director of Social Planning Toronto (SPT).
Annie was employed as Researcher and Policy Analyst on the Public Education and Human
Development portfolio at SPT. The core responsibilities of this position were to conduct
community-based, action-oriented research and advocacy on equity issues relating to public
education, children and youth. In this capacity, Annie managed several projects, including
leading a focus group study and organizing an important research conference on newcomer
youth and their access to recreation. She also worked with partner agencies, steering committees
and coalition groups to deliver community education forums on issues relating to public
financing of schools and equity in education.
Annie displayed exceptional initiative, organizational and problem-solving skills, and effectively
handled competing priorities and a number of complex and sensitive situations. Annie also
demonstrated solid competence in writing and communication – several aspects of her job
involved making public presentations and preparing written submissions for research and
knowledge dissemination. Annie’s role as a representative of SPT led her to collaborate with
diverse stakeholders in the community - including residents, youth, service providers, and city
staff. A caring and thoughtful person and an excellent team player, Annie was successful in
engaging community partners, and building consensus around shared goals.
Were the opportunity to arise, I would gladly re-hire Annie. I would highly recommend her to
any organization for which her skills and experience are suitable.
Yours sincerely,
Winston Tinglin.
