reaching it…
4. Director’s Profile
Amogh Chougule
Director, Interaction Design
Neodes interact.
Amogh is an alumni of National Institute of Design. After getting his
Post graduate degree in Product design he worked in the industry for
about three years. Currently he is leading Neodes interact.
He has worked with various industries like Whirlpool, Persistent, Matrix
Telecom, Axis Technical Group, Godrej, Cummins, etc. in various
capacities. He has over 7 years of experience in User experience Design,
Usability and visual Design.
Amogh is also a production engineer from College of Engineering, Pune.
When not at work, He’s often spotted shooting with his Nikon.
5. Resources
We have highly skilled and experienced designers and engineers from prestigious
Institutes like NID, MIT(Pune), COEP, etc. with domain experience in Interface
design, Visual communication, Automotive styling & Product design. Our
passionate multi disciplinary team enable us to deliver innovative solutions to our
clients.
7. Service offerings in UI Design
We have the capability of delivering all components of the user experience design
1. User Research
2. Usability review (Expert review)
3. User testing
4. Information architecture
5. Wire frames
6. Prototyping (Low & Hi Fidelity)
7. Visual design (Look n feel)
11. User Research
In most of the projects, we start with the user research. User
research employing ethnographic studies helps us understand
the users while they use the products/ services in their
environment. We have built a culture of empathy which
sensitizes our team members about the motivations, fears
and aspirations of the end users observed through their
lifestyles.
After user interviews and field studies we synthesize the data
gathered and distill the insights which can inform & inspire
the designers to create pleasurable products & experiences
for the end users.
Depending upon the context, we can do a research with initial
concepts/ prototypes to get concrete feedback early on in the
development of the new designs.

14. Usability Review (or Expert Review)
Expert Review is when an usability specialist inspects the
application for potential usability problems.
We have certified usability specialists who review the
applications based on heuristic principles*.
The deliverables of Expert review is a report which documents
the usability issues in detail for each screen along with
recommendations for the redesign.
Expert review is a quick and cost effective way of evaluating
where your application stand in terms of usability. Often it is
done to decide if the application needs a user testing or not.

15. A less frequently used function is
placed in the main menus
Recommendation: we keep it in the
“settings” menu
16. A less frequently used function is
placed in the main menus
icon
Recommendation: Can we have
icon legends on the roll over?
17. The popup for Annotation properties
obstructs significant portion of the
x-ray image, requiring user to shift it
frequently to see the X-ray image
Recommendation: we can have a slim
while annotating
popup with icons to accommodate the
functions in smaller area.
18. User has to read so much of text to decide
which button he should press.
“Please ensure that you do not click
“Default” the system” while Using wizard
post installation” > Can a new user
understand this message?
Recommendation: The system can
detect if the user is using the wizard
“post- installation” and offer only valid
choices.

20. User Testing
User testing involves getting people from the target audience
to evaluate your application whilst performing tasks.
We will define these tasks depending upon priority &
criticality and ask users to perform them.
Typically 2-5 users will be recruited consisting of novices as
well as experts
We’ll observe them doing these tasks and at times capture
the video as well for later analysis.
Usually, user testing is better at finding issues related to
special domain knowledge and task flows.
This method is slightly time consuming and costly as it
involves spending significant time with the end users.

23. Information Architecture (IA)
Information Architecture defines the organization structure of
information within your application.
After conducting user testing & expert reviews, we propose solutions to
the usability problems. In some cases the solution can be modifications/
restructuring of the IA.
Since any changes in IA usually asks for significant development efforts,
The client has to decide whether they are open for these changes or not.
Nonetheless we recommend the refinements in IA if some usability
problems are very critical.
As this stage is crucial from the development point of view, feedback
from client’s development team is crucial.
We use various techniques like card sorting, to create the IAs
The output of IA phase is either a flowchart/ tree diagram/ a layout in the
form of a Wireframe.

29. Wireframes
Wireframes are the visual representation of the IA. They make
the Information structure visible and understandable across team
members. Wireframes are a common platform for Information
architects, usability experts and UI designers.
We use various tools to create wireframes: Powerpoint, Axure,
Coreldraw.
We usually test the wireframes with the end users since they
contain the core functionality & resolved usability. The
development teams can give critical feedback on the wireframes
regarding the feasibility of various solutions. We use their
feedback to iterate the wireframes till we arrive at the best
solution.

34. Prototypes
We strongly believe in prototyping the concepts early on.
This gives us definite feedback from all the stakeholders and
improves the design with every iteration.
For initial stages, we make paper mocks/ low fidelity prototypes.
After few iterations, we go for hi-fidelity prototypes or click
through mock-ups, depending upon the application. This can
either be done as interactive PowerPoint presentation or an
interactive Flash presentation with active links.
Depending upon the application, type of user group, time and
budget, we decide the type of prototype to go for.

39. Visual Design (Look n Feel)
After the Prototypes/ sample screens are approved, we create
the final look n feel screens.
We specify the colours, gradients, fonts, layout, etc. for the
application.
If required we create icons for the application.
In case of Rich Internet platforms like Adobe Flex, we define the
transformations between screens to define the interaction
elements.
Usually we give the deliverables in BMP/ JPEG / HTML CSS
