   – If Susan fails every subject this year, she won’t go
     to university.
   – Is Susan doesn’t fail any subject, she will go to
     university.
5.- He's not handsome. He'd like to have a
  beautiful girlfriend. (type II, use MIGHT in the
  main clause).
   – If he were handsome, he would have a beautiful
     girlfriend.
6.- The prison warder was having lunch. The
  prisoners escaped. (t.III).
   – If the prison warder hadn’t been having
     lunch, the prisoners wouldn’t have escaped.
7.- I need a typewriter. It costs a lot of money. (t. I)
   – If I get money, I’ll buy a typewriter.
   – I’ll get a typewriter if I get/save/earn enough money
   – I won’t get a typewriter unless I get enough money.
8.- I don't have enough time. I like reading very
  much. (t. II)
   – If I had enough time, I would read more.
9.- I don't like cooking. I always eat in
  restaurants (t. II)
   – If I liked cooking, I wouldn’t eat in restaurants.
ACTIVITY 3
e.g. He's thinking of going to England.
If he goes to England, he will have to learn
   English.
1.- It looks as if those shoes in the window are
   my size.
  – If those shoes in the window are my size, I’ll buy
    them // I will try them on
2.- Don't drop that vase.
  – If you drop that vase, it will break.
3.- It looks like being fine tomorrow.
   – If it is fine tomorrow, we will go to the beach.
4.- My father has suggested that I change my job.
   – If I change my job, my father will be happy.
   – If I pay attention to my father’s suggestion, I will
     change my job.
5.- It seems that we'll be late for the theatre.
   – If I am late for the theatre, I will miss the beginning of
     the play.
   – If I am late for the theatre, I won’t be allowed to
     come in.
6.- Don't lose my library book!
   – If you lose my library book, I will have to pay for it / I
     won’t be able to take it back.
7.- You may meet some friends of mine in London.
   – If you meet my friend in London, give them my
     kindest regards.
   – If you go to London, you may meet some friends of
     mine.
8.- He expects to pass his exams.
   – If he passes his exams, he will go to university/he will
     be very happy

  are red?

3.- What materials do you need if you want to
  write a letter? (you = one)
  – If you want to write a letter, you need a pen and
    some paper.
4.- What do you like to drink if you are thirsty?
  – If I am thirsty, I like to drink some water.
5.- Who do businessmen go to see if they want
  to
borrow money?
  – Businessmen go to see the bank manager if they
    want to borrow money.
6.- What do you expect a teacher to do if you
  make a mistake?
  – If I make a mistake, I expect a teacher to correct it.
7.- What must one have if one wants to visit a
  foreign country?
  – If one wants to visit a foreign country, one must
    have a passport.
8.- Who do people go to see if they feel ill?
  – People go to see the doctor if they feel ill.

  – People in my country wear formal clothes if they

  1. If I went to America I would visit New York.

   live your life over again?
  1. If I could live my life again, I would do exactly the
     same.
3. What would you say or do if someone called
   you a fool?
  1. If someone called me a fool, I wouldn’t pay
     attention to it.
4.- If a visitor came to your town, what places
     would you advise him to see?
If a visitor came to Melilla, I’d advise him/her to
     see the Modernist buildings.
5.- What famous person would you like to meet
     if you had the chance?
If I had the chance, I would like to meet Sponge
     Bob.
6.- What country would you choose if you
     decided to live abroad?
If I decided to live abroad, I’d choose Canada.
7.- What changes would you make in your
   house, assuming you had the money?
I would change my study room assuming I had
   the money.
8.- What would you do if you saw a house on
   fire?
I would call the firefighters if I saw a house on
   fire.
9.- What would you do if you had something
   stolen?
If I had something stolen, I would report it to the
   police.
10.- Which books or records would you take
   with you if you went to live on a desert island?
I would take “One hundred years of Solitude”
   with me if I went to live on a desert island.
ACTIVITY 6

6.- This exercise is easy, so everyone will get the
   correct answers.
If this execise weren’t easy, nobody would get

  If I didn’t know the answer, I couldn’t tell you.
8.- We haven't any matches so we can't light the
  fire.
  If we had any matches, we could light the fire.

1. I would have enjoyed the party much more if
   THE MUSIC HAD BEEN BETTER.
