This is the second of the Walt Disney Series. My aim is to make reading the work easy and to facilitate true comprehension of the story. Thus the linguistic abilities of my students can be improved. To make communication better, both written and spoken, I use various tools, in and off the classroom. Please go through these slides and watch the video and send me a write up on the work. Jiminy Cricket, the great traveler, was
looking for somewhere to spend the night.
He found his way to the workshop of the old
wood carver, Geppetto. Once inside,
Jimmy noticed a wooden puppet carved in
the likeness of a little boy.
6. The puppet was nearly
finished: only its eyebrows
and mouth were missing.
At that moment, Jiminy heard
someone coming downstairs
and slipped out of sight.
7.
8. It was Geppetto coming down
to put the final touches to the
puppet.
He carefully painted on
eyebrows and a wide smiling
mouth.
9.
10. “I think we shall call him
Pinocchio” Geppetto said to
his companions Figaro the
kitten and Cleo the Goldfish.
11.
12. Then he said goodnight to the
puppet.
Before Geppetto went to sleep
he saw the wishing star, and
he wished that Pinocchio
could become a real boy.
13.
14. Later Jiminy saw the blue fairy
arrive! She said:
“Little Puppet, the gift of the
life is thine.” Pinocchio
stretched his arms and legs
15.
16. “I am alive” he exclaimed.
“Prove yourself brave, truthful
and unselfish” the Blue Fairy
told him. “and someday you’ll
turn into a real boy”
17.
18. Then she discovered Jiminy
Cricket: “Pinocchio must know
right from wrong! Jiminy
Cricket.
I name you Pinocchio’s
conscience! And with that she
disappeared.
19.
20. The noise woke Geppetto up
and he went downstairs. He
was overjoyed when he saw
that Pinocchio had become
alive. Geppetto said:
“Tomorrow you must go to
school to learn things and
become a real little boy”
21.
22. The next day on his way to
school, Pinocchio was spotted
by two scoundrels. They
wanted Pinocchio to join a
puppet theatre.
Pinocchio was very interested
and wouldn’t listen to Jiminy
Cricket who told him not to go.
23.
24. That evening Pinocchio sang
and danced at the puppet
theatre.
He got a bit tangled up with the
other puppets’ strings. But the
audience roared with laughter
and clapped. After the show
Pinocchio was very proud.
25.
26. “I want to go and tell my
father” he said.
“You are not going anywhere”
the puppet-master told
Pinocchio, and then he threw
poor Pinocchio into the cage.
27.
28. Jiminy found Pinocchio in the
cage, and suddenly the blue
fairy appeared. “Why didn’t
you go to school?” she asked.
Pinocchio told a lie and each
time he told the fairy a new lie,
his nose grew longer.
Finally Pinocchio said: “I’ll
never lie again”
29.
30. On hearing this, the fairy turned
his nose back to normal. Before
she vanished, she opened the
cage and Pinocchio and Jiminy
rushed out and hurried toward
Geppetto’s house.
31.
32. But Pinocchio never made it
back to Geppetto. He met the
two scoundrels again.
They convinced him that a visit
to the Pleasure Island was just
what he needed. The two
scoundrels put Pinocchio on a
coach.
33.
34. It was loaded with excited
boys, eager for fun and
amusement. As the coach
rolled off, Jiminy Cricket
managed to slip on. “Go
home” he told Pinocchio.
But Pinocchio was too taken
with the tales of fun to pay
attention to his conscience.
35.
36. On Pleasure Island, the
coachman cried: “Go on and
enjoy yourselves, boys! You
can do as you like on Pleasure
Island.
Nothing is forbidden!
Pinocchio and the other boys
ran off excitedly.
37.
38. They couldn’t wait to try out all
the merry-go-rounds and eat
the candies and ice-cream.
But to himself the coach-men
crackled cruelly: “Little bad
boys have a nasty surprise
coming”.
39.
40. Jiminy Cricket was looking for
his friends. He finally found
Pinocchio playing billiards
with a boy. Jiminy scolded:
“This is wrong”
But Pinocchio wouldn’t listen.
Just then Pinocchio began
growing donkey ears and tails.
“Let’s go” cried Jiminy
41.
42. He and Pinocchio ran to the
sea and they swam away from
that terrible place.
They hurried home to
Geppetto, but he and Cleo and
Figaro had been swallowed by
a whale. When Pinocchio
heard this, he was determined
to save his father.
43.
44. He and Jiminy found the
whale, and the whale
swallowed them as well.
“Father it’s me” cried the little
puppet.
Geppetto was very happy to
see Pinocchio and hugged him
in delight.
45.
46. Together they tried to figure
out how to escape the whale.
Suddenly Pinocchio got an
idea. They made a big fire to
make the whale sneeze and
popped them out.
47.
48. Once out of the whale, a wave
rose up in the water, washing
them ashore.
They were all safe, except for
Pinocchio. They found him in
the water lying face down, limp
and lifeless. Broken-hearted
Geppetto took him home.
49.
50. As he knelt by Pinocchio’s
bed, a light filled the work-
shop, and the voice of the Blue
Fairy was heard.
“You have been very brave.
The gift of life is thine. You are
a real boy now, Pinocchio”.
51.
52. Pinocchio looked at his human
hands and felt delight.
Geppetto couldn’t believe his
happiness. Pinocchio- a real
boy!
53. He hugged him, tightly and
danced around the workshop.
As for Jiminy, his mission as
Pinocchio’s conscience was
over, and quietly slipped away.
