Starting an online business is simple. Not always easy though it is simple. Many people on the planet
think that creating an online income will be the answer to all their prayers. Well it could be, provided
you treat it like a business and have a plan and take some action.
The reality is you only need 2 things to get going:
1. Something to sell that your market wants
2. Traffic to your site to buy it.
Logical I know and yet many people forget these 2 simple facts.
Let’s take each in turn:
1. Something to Sell
Starting an online business could mean that your intention is to sell a product rather than a service. This
though does not actually need to be the case. It could be either or, in fact it could be both depending on
what market you operate in.
Say you are a trainer or business coach. You could be selling a product, perhaps a selling skills guide,
CD,DVD. Or your time to run a workshop. The key thing to remember that it has to be something that
your market wants. Once you find out what it is that they want then you can provide it.

Many business owners we come across give this as their number one issue. For some reason many of us
think that it will just happen? And yet it doesn’t. People have to be drawn to you site for a reason.
Usually because you have got something that they want. So how do we go about
doing this?
There are many types of traffic. let’s look at the big picture.
There are only really 3 ways to get traffic…………
1. Buy it
2. Borrow it
3. Get in the flow of it.
1. Buy it
This one is pretty easy and will usually bring a flood of targeted traffic/visitors to your site. Starting an
online business can be pretty rapid.
You could have a wordpress blog up and running within the hour using a free theme of a premium one

Next you can go to Google Adwords and buy some traffic.. There you have it, the tap is turned on.
Though the question mark is how much will it cost? There in is a possible stumbling block for many new
online entrepreneurs.
That is one of the reasons why many new internet marketers that are, just starting an online business
are boot strapped for cash and need to do things in an inexpensive way; this leads us to our next 2
methods.
2. Borrow It
This is a great strategy and can be accomplished in many ways. One example is where you partner or
buddy up with another business owner. They recommend you and you recommend them. This is known as
a Joint Venture or referal partnership. You can accomplish this in lots of different ways.
Perhaps revenue share through using an affliate style software programme. There are lots out there.
This is some of the best traffic because generally it is prequalified and warmer than others.

Get in the Flow of Traffic
Getting in the flow through organic search engine ranking positions. This has been the subject of lots of
other blog posts in the past few weeks and is a good strategy for credibility, trust and client
relationships.
It is common knowledge that many people are drawn to the left hand side of the page when they are
searching, so you must have a presence there. This is where SEO (one of my favorite subjects) comes in.
You have to optimise your site and presence on the internet for success.
One way to start is get a keyword rich domain name. Build some links to it, put some value on it and you
will be amazed the “google” love you will get. Plus the traffic that will result.
