1. The British Imperialism Pop Up Challenge
Your challenge today will be to work in international teams to design a variety of creative
products that help to explain the impact of British Imperialism around the world. These
products will be shared at the end of the day in the school’s Gallery in the form of a Pop
Up exhibition.
The teams
Each team will have members from Denmark and the UK and will be assigned an adult
mentor. The mentor can advise and prompt but students should be responsible for the
nature and quality of the investigation. You will need to think carefully about how you
communicate with each other, make decisions, delegate tasks and manage your time.
The tools
You will have access to a variety of traditional resources - paper, pens, paint etc. - digital
learning devices - iPod Touches, iPads, laptops, IWB. Your choice of tools will depend on
the nature of your investigation. For example, you may decide to create an animated film,
a hand drawn poster, a dramatic performance, a photo slideshow or a combination of
creative products. You may need to visit the school library as well as search for information
online. You will need to balance your ambitions and the need to complete work
successfully within the given time frame.
The exhibition
You will be allocated some wall space in the Gallery to display your creative products. You
will also be able to display digital work on the IWB. You should attempt to document all
your products and the story of your day in some form, perhaps on a special blog or
website that will last beyond the Pop Up exhibition.
At the end of the day there will be time for all the teams to share their learning.
