Cerium is one of the 14 chemical
elements following the lanthanum in the periodic table, therefore called lanthanides.
Some of its derivatives are used in fireworks as ceramic material in the iron alloy
firestones,cerium oxide is used for polishing lenses and the permanent magnet alloys.
Cerium, like all rare earth metals, has a moderate level of toxicity. Cerium is a strong
reducing agent and ignites spontaneously on contact with air at temperatures between 65
and 80 º C.
