2. How an AONB can earn revenue
from non-public sector sources
What we do and what we know is worth
something to someone
Many ways to generate non ring-fenced
income: sell publications, request donations,
charge for events, charge fees for advice
Reduce costs: re-negotiate supply contracts,
use volunteers not paid experts, extend life of
equipment
3. Example 1: advertising
income
Chalk and Trees magazine carries 3 – 4 pages
of advertising twice a year.
Net income to Board is c. £4,000 pa
AONB website: photo adverts on individual
pages, banners ads and affiliate links.
Raised £525 to date, aim to raise £2,000 pa
4. Example 2: Event income
Chilterns Countryside Festival: joint with
National Trust, 115 exhibitors, 5,000 public
attend.
Costs taken out of total income, leaving profit
of £9230. Split equally between CCB and
National Trust.
5. Can you use what you are doing anyway to
raise some funds?
The public usually expect to pay for things
Invest in services and products which will
bring long term income or savings
Do you have expertise that someone might pay
for?
