1. BLOOD AND CIRCULATORY SYSTEM Teacher: María Belén Carrillo
2. What is blood made of? Blood is made of four different parts. They are: PLASMA RED BLOOD CELLS WHITE BLOOD CELLS PLATELETS Yellow liquid made of water. It is like a river for the blood cells to float. Carry oxygen from the air you breathe to all parts of the body. They are the body´s soldiers against disease, they attack germs to protects us. They allow your blood to clot around a cut.
3. HOW DOES BLOOD WORK? When you cut yourself White Blood cells (soldiers) move where the germs are and destroy them. Platelets make a web to close the hole made by the cut.
4.
5. HEART It is a special muscle that pumps blood throughout the body. It has 2 sides. The left side pumps blood filled with oxygen out into the body for cells to use. The right side pumps the blood filled with carbon dioxide to the lungs to be oxygenated.
6. BLOOD VESSELS ARTERIES: carry blood that contains oxygen. VEINS: carry blood containing carbon dioxide. CAPILLARIES: this is where the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide happens
7. LET´S REMEMBER!! 1. What are the parts of the blood? The plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. 2. Why are white blood cells and platelets important for our body? Because they fight germs that enter to our body, and they help cure a wound. 3. What is the function of the red blood cells? They carry oxygen to all parts of the body.
8. 4. List the types of blood vessels. Arteries – Veins - Capillaries 5. What is the name of the organ that pumps blood? 6. The exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide occurs in: HEART CAPILLARIES VEINS ARTERIES
