• Comenius project “Let’s know, let’s love, let’s
protect our environment”
We split into four different groups:
1. Transports
2. Heating
3. Electricity
4. Paper consumption
We have prepared a
questionnaire and
chosen six classes, the
sample classes .
THESE ARE OUR SAMPLE
CLASSES
110 students
THE QUESTIONNAIRE:
1. Which means of transport do you use to come to school?
and with what means of transport do you return?
outward: □by car □ by bus □ walking □by bike
come back : □by car □by bus □walking □by bike
2. How far is your home from school?
3. If you come by car, are there any students who
come with you? and the return?
OUR GROUP STUDIES: TRANSPORT
Here we are at work!

Summary
If you come by car, are there any
students who come with you?
31% of the students share the car with a mate

We interviewed Luigi, our caretaker and we
found out that the fuel with which we heat
the school is methane
We requested data to the Municipality of Vittorio
Veneto to know what was our methane consumption
1 How many would be willing to lower
of a degree the temperature?
2 How many people believe in
class it is too hot?
3 How many students report that they
keep the windows flapped for many
hours?
• Our school consumes 28.750 cubic meters
of methane per year.

1898Kg of paper
In a whole year we consumed :
OF WHICH:
PAPER A4
1300 Kg per year
PAPER A3
140 kg per year
A ream weighs 2 Kg A ream weighs 4 Kg
FOOLSCAP
320 Kg
PAPER FOR THE HYGIENE
238 kg
A ream weighs 2 Kg A roll weighs 1,2 kg A roll weighs 60 g
Interviewing Mrs. Loretta we verified that in one day
about two reams of paper are used, equivalent to
1000 sheets, without considering the secretariat and
the presidency.
ELECTRICITY’S CONSUMPTIONS
1- In 2014 our school consumed 53537 kwh
(date reported by Vittorio Veneto’s town hall)
We checked and we found that in every class there are 8 neon tubes ( each neon has
58 watt)
if in a classroom the light was turned on for 5 hours, it would consume : in
1 day = 2,32 kwh ( 58 watt x 8 neon tubes x 5 : 1000= 2 ,32 kwh)
1 month = 58 kwh ( 2,32kwh x 25 = 58 kwh)
1 classroom in a year = 464 kwh
5- In our school there are 380 neon tubes for a
consumption of 110 kwh in a day
(in five hours but the school closes at 18:00)
IN A SCHOOL YEAR:
110 x 200 =22000 Kwh
How can we reduce the
CO2 emissions?
We can reduce the emission of
CO2 with simple behaviours
The 122 students, who live at less than 2 km
from the school, could come to school
walking or by bike
Car pooling is the best choice
You will save 237 gr CO2/per kilometer for
each person
We found out that in our institute we only use non-
recycled paper, for which production there is a
bigger emission of CO2 than for the recycled paper.
Decreasing the heater’s temperature of
1 ° Celsius our consumption would
decrease of 7%,
which is above 2012 cubic meters of
methane in a school year
We can do a lot to reduce the emission
of co2.
1)If we switched off half the lights that are in
corridors we would save 4060 KWh per year.
2)If we switched off the light in the classrooms
during the break we would save 23,2 KWh for
each classroom.
Our results
TOTAL: 166 725 kg CO2
Putting in practice 3^ A hints
TOTAL: 119 049 kg CO2
CO2 saved
47 675 kg CO2
Everybody can!!!!!!
THE END
