• J.C.R. Licklider of MIT, first proposed a global
network of computers in 1962
• Leonard Kleinrock of MIT and later UCLA
developed the theory of packet switching,
which was to form the basis of Internet
connections
4. What was created for?
• It was created for military use to communicate
between bases even if some of them were
destroyed by nuclear attack.
• The early Internet was used by computer
experts, scientists, and engineers. It wasn’t
user friendly.
