2. Greek Civil War
The Greek Civil War was fought from 1946 to 1949 between the democrats with Greece,
backed by the United Kingdom and United States. And the communists, backed by Russia,
Bulgaria, Yugoslavia and Albania. The deciding factor in the Civil war ended up being when
the Soviet Union decided to break of relations with Yugoslavia, the rest of it’s allies chose to
side with the Soviet Union rather than stay with Yugoslavia. This act diminished the Greek
Communist Party’s Allies, coupled with the Democratic party’s greater strategic planning,
contributed to the Greek Communist Party’s loss. This act here created tensions between the
Soviet Union and the United States. The US also gained an ally within Greece due to their
support, while Russia lost Yugoslavia and Greece as ally’s.
4. Bay Of Pigs Invasion
On April 17–19, 1961, Cuban Exiles,
trained by the United States Of
America, invaded the coast of Cuba,
who were supported by the Soviet
Union. The exiles however, due to poor
training and management were easily
repelled. The Russians saw this invasion
as a direct threat towards Russia,
increasing tension between the US and
Russians. The Cuban leader Fidel Castro
also gained fame and recognition for
repelling the forces.
