What is nanotechnology
   Nanotechnology is interdisciplinary, involving
    physics,chemistry,biology, & engineering disciplines.

   A basic definition: It is the engineering of functional
    systems at the molecular scale.

   It is not an atom and reside on surface of atom.

   Best illustartion of nanotechnolgy is they are motes of
    matter of 1000 of times smaller than the width of a
    human hair.
Application of nanoscience
   Biomedicine And Health Care.

   Assistive devices and tissue engineering

   Information Technology.

   Molecular Electronics.

   Nanotube and Nanowires.

   Communication Technology.

Solar cells are photovoltaic
device.

It converts light energy
into electrical energy.

Majority of solar cells are
fabricated by
semiconductors like silicon
or GE.
WORKING OF
      SOLAR CELLS


Solar cells are arranged in large
grouping called arrays.

These arrays consist of large no’s
small individual cells .

Cells converts sunlight
energy(PHOTONS) into electrical
energy


Examples of semiconductor
materials employed in solar cells
include silicon, gallium arsenide,
indium phosphide, and copper

 Less   efficient and high manufacturing cost.

 Most times incoming photons or light have
 less band gap energy

 Because of less band energy electrons
 doesn‟t knock out.

 Extra   energy is wasted in heat form.

 Nano    particles are so small they reside on
    surface of atom.

 Nanostructured     thin films(silicon films) are
    used in solar cells of 150nm.

 Thin   films offers more Absorption of photons.

    electrons holes travel short path to reach
    conduction band.
