 Penicillin was the first antibiotic. It is important because it treats diseases
and kills infections. Without it, even minor infections could become life-
threatening.

2. DNA Structure
 DNA structure was an important discovery because it had a major impact
on medical and scientific progress. From this discovery, scientists have
learned how genetic information is transferred and stored. It also allowed
for medical doctors to try to see which genes triggered diseases.

3. Polio Vaccine
 There were many outbreaks of polio. Many people did not like leaving their
houses, as they feared catching polio. Since there is no cure for polio, the
best option is to prevent someone from ever catching the disease.

4. Birth Control Pill
 The birth control is important because it very often prevents pregnancies
from occurring. Birth control is cheaper than raising a child. Birth control
also helps with medical issues, such as irregular menses, hormonal
imbalance, acne, and PCOS.

5. Model T
 The Model T is important because it was one of the first cars sold at a
relatively affordable price. This allowed for people to travel more often
and for greater distances than before. Car ownership was possible for
everyone, not just the rich.

6. Order of Importance
 I chose to put penicillin first because the treatment of diseases is very
important. Without antibiotics, minor infections could become much worse
and even lead to death. I chose DNA structure as the second most
important because it gives insight into why we are the way we are,
genetically. I chose the polio vaccine for number three because vaccines
are important, and a vaccine that helps prevent a very contagious
disease is valuable. I chose birth control pills as number four because I
think contraception is important. I chose the Model T for number five
because while I think it’s important that we’re able to travel more now
thanks to cars, medical discoveries are life-saving.
