The 3 Essentials to a Site That Sells
Hey, it's Dan Procter here from simply.com.au. We build brilliant websites that sell.
People often ask me how to make sure they have a successful website that
makes a lot of sales and gets a lot of enquiries. And breaking it down, there are 3
key fundamentals every website must have:
1. You need a good base. You need a great-looking website that's functional and
usable on all devices and that creates a great first impression.
2. You need targeted traffic. This is really important. No traffic, no sales. Targeted
traffic, obviously, is better than any old traffic, because they are looking for what
they want and are more inclined to actually take action.
3. You absolutely must test, measure and refine through Conversion Rate
Optimisation.
What is Conversion Rate Optimisation?
So, what is Conversion Rate Optimisation or CRO, as the acronym is known? It is
the percentage of users on your website that take the action that you want them to
take. In the case of an e-commerce website, you want users to buy stuff. In the
case of a lead generation site, you want your visitors to decide to make an
enquiry, pick up the phone or fill in a form. Essentially, Conversion Rate
Optimisation is better marketing. It's the process of improving your website or your
website pages to get them to take the action you want them to take.
Why You Should Use CRO
What we're seeing with clients and prospects alike is a high percentage of
websites that have a large exit rate. So, a lot of the traffic isn't actually taking any
action - it's leaving at the pages where they should take action.
So, what we do is refine these pages, generally single pages, to help clients or
visitors understand how to actually take the action we want them to take. And this
might be simple things such as a better call to action, a better offer, responsive
design - ready for mobiles and tablets.

So why do Conversion Rate Optimisation? To put it simply, to increase profits. It's
not that we want to increase conversions, but because we want to increase profits.
We all want more money, more sales, more profit. If you think about it, if we
increase your conversion rate from 1% to 2%, that's a double in enquiries.
Assuming all things are equal and you can close at a high rate, that's a double in
sales.
We Test, Measure and Change
The cycle is: we test; we measure and we change. Then we test, measure and
change again. So through hypothesis and use of Google Analytics and scroll map
data, we measure what's happening on your site and where people are converting
or exiting. Essentially, we are continually optimising your website performance to
ensure you get a better bank for your marketing spend.
