How can we take UX and Data Storytelling out of the tech context and use them to change the way government behaves?
Showcasing the truth is the highest goal of data storytelling. Because the design of a chart can affect the interpretation of data in a major way, one must wield visual tools with care and deliberation. Using quantitative facts to evoke an emotional response is best achieved with the combination of UX and data storytelling.

The concept of a “brand” is no longer taboo at B2B companies. In fact, strong B2B brands outperform weaker ones by as much as 20%, according to recent research by McKinsey. Yet it’s not easy for ROI-obsessed marketers to justify spending money on their brand, which can be difficult to track. As a result, your brand is too often left either underfunded or on the back-burner altogether.
We’re going to help you solve this. In this presentation you’ll learn:
- How your brand can boost demand generation and other key performance indicators
- The elements of a B2B brand and how those are different from traditional consumer branding
- How to elevate your brand through B2B marketing channels and brand advocates
- Metrics to track the impact of your brand

How NOT to Run Your Company – Lessons LearnedWeekdone.com
The Internet is full of articles on „How to succeed“ and „How to build a great company“ But while following those guidelines we often forget that there's a lot you just can't do.
Learning from your own mistakes is good, but it's even better when you can learn from the mistakes of others.
Everyone's favorite billionaire and Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump has said “Watch, listen, and learn. You can’t know it all yourself. Anyone who thinks they do is destined for mediocrity.”

Dispatches From The New Economy: The Five Faces Of The On-Demand EconomyIntuit Inc.
From people determined to be their own boss, to those embracing the flexibility to do something they love, to workers finding a replacement for a traditional job – people working in the on-demand economy are just about as diverse as the labor market itself. A new report from Intuit Inc. and Emergent Research shows that there are a broad range of motivations – and differing levels of satisfaction – among five distinct groups of on-demand workers:
The Business Builders – primarily driven by the desire to be their own boss. They represent 22 percent of on-demand workers.
The Career Freelancers – happily building a career through independent work. They represent 20 percent of on-demand workers.
The Side Giggers – looking to find financial stability by supplementing existing income. They represent 26 percent of on-demand workers.
The Passionistas – looking for the flexibility to do something they love. They represent 18 percent of on-demand workers.
The Substituters – replacing a traditional job that is no longer available. They represent 14 percent of on-demand workers.
Methodology
A total of 4,622 workers who find work opportunities via the platforms provided by the participating partner companies completed an online survey between September 11 and October 1, 2015. The results were weighted to reflect the proportion of workers in each of the following segments: Drivers/Delivery, Online Talent Marketplaces and Field Service/Onsite Talent. The weights were developed using earlier survey work that sized the on-demand economy. The largest weighted share of on-demand worker respondents from any single company is 16%, with most partner companies providing less than 10% of the respondents.
The technologies and people we are designing experiences for are constantly changing, in most cases they are changing at a rate that is difficult keep up with. When we think about how our teams are structured and the design processes we use in light of this challenge, a new design problem (or problem space) emerges, one that requires us to focus inward. How do we structure our teams and processes to be resilient? What would happen if we looked at our teams and design process as IA’s, Designers, Researchers? What strategies would we put in place to help them be successful? This talk will look at challenges we face leading, supporting, or simply being a part of design teams creating experiences for user groups with changing technological needs.

10 Insightful Quotes On Designing A Better Customer ExperienceYuan Wang
In an ever-changing landscape of one digital disruption after another, companies and organisations are looking for new ways to understand their target markets and engage them better. Increasingly they invest in user experience (UX) and customer experience design (CX) capabilities by working with a specialist UX agency or developing their own UX lab. Some UX practitioners are touting leaner and faster ways of developing customer-centric products and services, via methodologies such as guerilla research, rapid prototyping and Agile UX. Others seek innovation and fulfilment by spending more time in research, being more inclusive, and designing for social goods.

The Great State of Design with CSS Grid Layout and FriendsStacy Kvernmo
For far too long we've been forced to reuse layout patterns that have worked in the past, creating a web full of sites that all look the same. Narrow timelines, browser support restrictions and lack of a true grid system have led us to create work that is "good enough".
I've spent years exploring how we can make the web a more unique space. With some of the newer CSS techniques available, we can start to make more creative designs. CSS Grid Layout is on the horizon and will play a major role in the design of our sites. Finally having a true, 2 dimensional grid will give our layouts much more flexibility and it is on us to explore the possibilities.
This talk was presented at CSS Day 2016.

Your Go-To-Market is Killing Your Business, and You Don't Even Know ItHubSpot
Modern customers expect that it will be easy to learn about your product and buy it, but most of our go-to-markets do the opposite. We ask people to fill out long forms, we build complex qualification rules, we make it tough for prospects to talk to someone right now. In short, we put up barriers that solve for our companies instead of solving for our customers.
At HubSpot, we’re mid-way through transforming our go-to-market to be customer centric. Learn what’s worked for us, what hasn’t, and what we’re building.

Here's the hard truth about marketing: your customers are better at it than you. Over the past decade, marketers perfected content creation, but as a result, things got a lot more competitive for businesses and a lot more crowded for buyers. So while creating content is still your best and cheapest strategy, it should no longer be your only strategy. That's where your customers come in. Learn more.
According to a recent report from Ernst & Young GmbH, both the number of funding rounds for startups in Germany and the overall value of those rounds hit record levels in the first six months of 2017. That tracks with what we’ve found in HubSpot research as well. We recently commissioned a survey of consumers living and/or working in the Berlin metro area, and found that the tech scene there is evolving quickly – 95 percent of Berliners see the number of technology jobs in the city growing, and 90 percent say Berlin also offers access to the technology and digital talent needed to grow a tech company. With Berlin offering the highest post-grad monthly salary for the European tech sector (3,112 euros per month, on average), it’s no surprise that the city has become a hub for fast-growing tech companies. And as of today, HubSpot is the latest to call the city home.

Without a strategic approach, adding tool after tool can lead you down a dangerous path. Get more strategic about your software and don't just build any old stack, build a Growth Stack.
The lack of visible female role models is pervasive in the tech industry, particularly on Wikipedia, where just under 17% of Wikipedia biographies were on women. That's why HubSpot wrote fourteen Wikipedia entries for remarkable women in tech to help inspire young women to reach positions at the highest levels of STEM.

Sales is a difficult world to be in because buyers aren't putting up with salespeople anymore. Instead of helping and building relationships, sales reps are still focused on closing prospects - even when they aren't ready to buy! So buyers ignore them. Because of that, even great sales reps would be lucky to get on the phone with someone.
While buyers have evolved and become more sophisticated, sales reps and training programs have been slow to adapt to that change.
Learn actionable modern prospecting techniques you can apply immediately from two best selling authors and sales experts: Max Altschuler CEO of Sales Hacker, and Mark Roberge CRO of HubSpot.

9. 3.
Do your most important tasks in
the morning.
Research shows that you’re most cognitively
active two hours after you wake up.
So don’t spend this valuable time surfing the
Internet or checking email. Use it to tackle your
hardest project.

10. 4. Stop multitasking.
Our brains aren’t built for multitasking. Even
though it might feel like you’re doing several
things at once, you’re really just switching
between multiple tasks.
And research shows that multitasking can
actually decrease your IQ.

11. 5.
Schedule internal meetings
strategically.
Schedule meetings back-to-back or around
lunch so you’re not sitting down and getting
back up all day.
Are you a manager? Hold one day a week for
one-on-ones with your direct reports.
12. 6.
Build time into your schedule to
prospect every day.
It’s easy to skip prospecting if things get busy,
but neglect your pipeline and you’ll shoot
yourself in the foot.
Call your prospects between 8 and 9 a.m. local
time, and do email prospecting during off hours.

13. 7.
Reserve specific hours on your
calendar for prospect meetings.
If you hold a consistent time for sales meetings,
you’ll avoid conflicts with internal meetings and
won’t have to reshuffle your schedule.
Of course, defer to your prospect’s schedule if
they absolutely can’t meet within this window.
14. 8.
Leave 10-15 minutes between every
external meeting.
You can duck out of internal meetings if they
start to run over. Not so when you’re speaking
with a prospect.
Always leave yourself buffer time in case the
conversation runs long or the prospect arrives
late.
15. 9.
Remove unnecessary recurring
meetings from your schedule.
As a sales rep, the only recurring meetings you
need to have are pipeline reviews and career
discussions with your manager.
If a recurring meeting has fallen by the wayside
or isn’t helpful to you, get it off your calendar.
16. 10.
Put “available to book” times on
your calendar.
Let your colleagues know when you’re available
to meet by making it explicit on your schedule.
That way, they don’t have to ping you asking if
they can book you. They can just do it.
17. 11. Build lunch into your schedule.
Even on your busiest days, you can’t afford to
miss lunch.
The mental break and time away from your desk
are essential to keeping you sharp and focused
for the rest of the day.
18. 12.
Every Sunday, review next week’s
schedule.
Throughout the week, surprises will inevitably
crop up. But you should start your week as
organized as possible.
Spend a mere 10 minutes updating your
calendar and you’ll be ready to hit the ground
running on Monday morning.

21. 13. Hide your phone.
(Not your desk phone, of course.)
Research shows that we touch our phones 150
times a day. Avoid the temptation and put it
away during work hours.
[Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield and Byers]
22. 14. Touch things once.
It takes 25 minutes to return to productivity
after an interruption.
So when you’re working, finish a task before you
move on to something else. Breaking it up will
only increase the total amount of time you’ll
have to spend.
23. 15. Try the (10 + 2) x 5 technique.
Step 1: Work for 10 minutes with absolute focus
on one task.
Step 2: Break for 2 minutes.
Step 3: Repeat 5 times in total (4 additional
times) until you’ve completed an hour of work.

24. 16. Or use the 52:17 ratio.
Research by DeskTime shows that the highest-
performing 10% of employees work for 52
minutes followed by a 17-minute break spent
away from their desks.
(Hey, if science says it, it must be true.)
[The Atlantic]
25. 17. Or the Pomodoro Technique.
Step 1: Set a timer for 25 minutes and work on
one task. (25 minutes is one “Pomodoro.”)
Step 2: Take a short break.
Step 3: Every four Pomodoros, take a longer
break – from 15-30 minutes.

26. 18.
Or, use the Dead Battery Sprint to
get things done – fast.
(Note: only works if you use a laptop for work.)
Step 1: Charge your computer to 100%.
Step 2: Unplug.
Step 3: Try to finish a task before the battery dies.

27. 19. Set both long- and short-term goals.
It’s helpful to have a five-year plan, but it’s not
always easy to see progress day-to-day.
Setting attainable smaller goals will keep you
driving forward to eventually reach your
ultimate objective.
[Psychology Today]
28. 20. Get into the office early.
A recent study found that “morning people”
were more likely to feel in charge of their work
and spend time identifying goals.
And if you beat the morning rush, you’ll have
guaranteed alone time to work before
distractions from your colleagues start rolling in.

29. 21. Turn off any channels that you’re
not using.
You don’t need to check your email while you’re
making prospecting calls. You don’t need to
have Facebook open when you’re sourcing leads
on LinkedIn.
Free yourself from the constant flow of new
notifications by physically closing out of
windows you’re not using.
