Analytical essay of
Remarks by the First Lady at Education Event with DC High School Sophomores
The speech was held by the First Lady, Michelle Obama, at the DC High School as an educational
event for the sophomores. The overriding subject of the speech is education which is an area Michelle
Obama and her husband, Barack Obama, has spent a lot of time and resources on. After the
introduction of the speech she speaks of a goal that her husband has set for America. She tells that it
should be the goal of the entire country to have the highest proportion of college graduates in the
world in 2020. She explains that it is very important because America was number one in college
graduates a generation ago and now they are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lastly she uses logos when she says that two thirds of all jobs will require some training or education
in the future because it is obvious for a rationally thinking person that you will have greater chances of
getting a job if you have a great education.
The audience of the speech is the sophomores of the DC High School. That means that she needs to
keep the speech relatively simple, as her audience isn t very old. As mentioned earlier the speech was
held during an educational event. That is the circumstance of the speech and under that she addresses
the topic education. The purpose of the speech is to motivate the students to continue their education
when they have finished high school in order to succeed later in life.
Other than the appeal forms she also uses rhetorical language or rhetorical tricks to motivate and
convince the students to continue their education. One of the most important parts of the text is the
goal for 2020 which Barack Obama mentions as the North Star goal. This is

A Public Service Announcement ( Psa ) Can Help Reduce The...
A Public Service Announcement (PSA) can help reduce the number of distracted driving accidents by
explaining the horrible effects of distracted driving and the best ways to prevent distracted driving.
Currently, the main source of distracted driving is cell phones. Cell phones cause a person to text, call,
and use social media while driving; all factors that can be a deadly distraction while driving. A cell
phone causes much distraction for the driver and may cause the driver to have a car crash that not only
affects themselves, but also the surrounding people. As a community, we should be educating people
about distracted driving in order to prevent the problem and decrease the number of accidents. Public
Service Announcements are important as they provide people with evidence, resources to limit
distraction while driving, and helpful/important information. Teenagers, children, and even adults will
be able to be informed. Even though educating people through a Public Service Announcement is
important, it might not be viewed by most people and will not be effective towards the younger
viewers. Teenagers and even adults might dismiss a Public Service Announcement because the
announcement does not grab their attention or because the person might not care.
Over the past years, cell phones have completely transformed how Americans communicate.
Unavoidably, these wireless devices have made a huge impact on the nation s transportation system.
Cell phones are the leading cause of

Man s Search For Meaning By Viktor E. Frankl
Viktor E. Frankl s novel Man s Search for Meaning is a novel founded on the personal journey of
Viktor and how he discovered his meaning in life. In the course of his discovery of the meaning of life
he decides to hopefully help those in pain and sufferings find their meaning as well. The book entails
tragedy and extreme misfortune in Auschwitz concentration camp as a captive; yet through this pain
and suffering is where Viktor Frankl originated his will to persevere and psychological techniques for
survival.
Throughout Viktor E. Frankl s book Man s Search for Meaning mental, physical, and emotional
torture and attack impressed on the prisoners in the Auschwitz concentration camp was a regular and
familiar topic. The accompanying guards kept shouting at us and driving us with the butts of their
rifles. Anyone with very sore feet supported himself on his neighbor s arm. Hardly a word was
spoken; the icy wind did not encourage talk. (Page #37) If I was compelled to experience an
organization or group of authorities that I had no rights or privileges whatsoever, while enduring the
harsh realities of nature s weather, and facing weapons intended to take my life and the lives around
me, I would most likely be in survival mode and be focused on trying to be as composed and
camouflaged as possible. It is admirable how the prisoners in this recollection from Viktor are thinking
of one another as well as themselves by assisting their fellow man in survival as well. I would like

Iranian Nuclear Enrichment Program Since the first atomic bomb tests in the mid 1940 s, to the arms
race between the Soviet Union and the United States in the 1960 s, to the disarmament phase in the
1990 s, nuclear energy has come a long way. The five nuclear powers have tried to keep their secrets
on weapon manufacturing and element enrichment under wraps, but several countries have found out
how; now they have large nuclear programs. Iran has recently joined the club, pursuing a program for
uranium and plutonium enrichment abilities. The P5+1 (United States, Russia, Britain, France, and

have been accusing Tehran of making a program only to make nuclear warheads and non civilian

A contending point of view would be that Iran and Israel would get enraged and ensue in advanced
nuclear warfare. Iran is refusing to cooperate in the peace talks. Secretary of State John Kerry wants
the extension because not extending the talks will risk further turmoil the Middle East. The nuclear
program in Iran as we negotiate is frozen. We would be fools to walk away from a situation where the

this program is in place, Kerry told reporters at the end of a week of exhaustive negotiations with
Iranian counterpart, Javad Zarif in November 2014 (Norman, L.; Norman, J.; and Norman, S.). Iran

An Inquiry into the Dilemma of the Turkish Language Essay
Turkish is one of the youngest and rapidly developing languages; furthermore approximately 80
million people speak Turkish as a mother language in the world. 1928 was a very crucial year for the
development of the Modern Turkish language because Latin alphabet adopted instead of Arabic script
and after this transition numerous events sequentially shape the Turkish language. On the other hand,
the use of contemporary the Turkish language triggers some concerns. Although the Turkish language
has been searching ways out for sophisticated dilemmas since 1920 s, it confronts historical, political,
cultural issues and risk of losing originality, degeneration of quality and misuse in the media; as a

them within the community. (47) This analysis and these strict prohibitions show us the intensive
political pressure on the minority groups. Another vital point is the Turkish government did not
recognize even the Kurdish, Arabic, Circassian tongues because of the mainstream nationalist
discourse persecuted to the community. Until the liberalization period, those kinds of pressures and
attrition policies densely influenced the Turkish language s evolution. In 1980 s, Turgut Özal

Narrative Writing Assignments Of Pretentious Middle School...
Hyperextended crabs. Pinwheel of death. Broken winged pterodactyl. Such terminology seems
befitting of comparisons found in the interpretive writing assignments of pretentious middle school
students in an introductory art class. At the very least, they certainly do not invoke the feelings
associated with rational conceptions of what they describe in reality: districts across ordinary towns in
the United States. More sensibly, one could delegate responsibility for these frighteningly amorphous
and visually unappealing figures to the contrived workings of legislatures, yet a certain degree of
accountability ought to be attributed to the currently flawed legal precedent for handling the
intricacies of one of America s most virulent issues. Furthermore, the issue runs much deeper than the
superficial concerns from, they are physically discernable warning signs of a startling trend that
regrettably stifles political discourse and obscures the legitimate appeals of constituents: the
prevalence of district gerrymandering.
Every decade, as per the Supreme Court s ruling in Reynolds v. Sims, U.S. Congressional districts
reevaluate the status quo situation of political district in regards to population, and redraw their
individual localities accordingly. In its intended form, this process bolsters the election process
through taking into consideration different migratory patterns that would perhaps misrepresent the
geographical reality, ensuring that one man s vote in a congressional

How Did The Sputnik Change The World
The world experienced very many huge moments, such big moments in which sometimes you don t
think it s really happening. October 4, 1957, was one of those days. It was the day of the Sputnik
launch. Sputnik was a Soviet satellite that orbited in the earth s rotation 584 miles above the earth and
traveling at about 18,000 mph. It took approximately 98 minutes for it to rotate the earth which meant
it passed the United States seven times a day. The sputnik had a diameter of 22 inches and 184
pounds. It s visible with binoculars before and after sunrise, sputnik transmitted radio signals back to
earth strong enough to be picked up by amateurs radio operators. The Sputnik changed many things in
the world like the view on the Soviets and their ability to produce technology. Since the United States
saw that the Soviet Union was the first to launch their satellite they ask themselves that why haven t
they become the first to launch? So since the day Soviet Union launch the United States responded so
they created NASA to improve education to train future engineers, and developing technology to win
the Space Race. The U.S. government, military, and scientific community were caught off guard by
the Soviet technological achievement. The 65° inclination and duration of its orbit made its flight path
cover virtually the entire inhabited Earth. Tracking and studying Sputnik 1 from Earth provided
scientists with valuable information, even though the satellite wasn t equipped with

organizations today in this global market is how they will protect new technology systems from cyber

employee training. Human threats either intentionally or unintentional can have a significant effect on
an organization. Physical security is only half the battle organizations must also have those logical

Musing New Hoods, Making New Identity
The Article, Musing New Hoods, Making New identities: Film, Hip hop Culture, and Jazz Music by
Guthrie P. Ramsey, Jr. addressed an important and conflicting aspect about the opportunities that
African Americans feel they have in modern society. He continues to address the idea of
guiltsploitation feeling guilt for going against one s culture to move up in social class, an idea
introduced by Henry Louis Gates and the different message that is received by society from the
underlying message surrounding African American films (Ramsey, 311). Stereotypes conceived
through movies and hip hop music create the identity and character through an authentic
representation that is expected of African Americans in modern culture. Although African American
films and the hip hop music industry have worked to build and identify a culture through the art form,
they have instead created a stereotypical image a different inner struggle has resulted that remains in
society today. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

cultural norm (Ramsey,311). The message of many films suggests that to prove that one is proud of
their Black heritage they must live in ghettos, do crack and rap (Ramsey, 311). This representation
creates a different message to the past and present youth can I climb the corporate ladder and still be
loyal to my race (Ramsey, 311)? Films have the power to create an image in society that makes it
difficult for the African American culture to feel comfortable going against this social norm. This

The Conflict Between Characters In Hamlet By William...
Shakespeare is one of the world s most renown play writers in the world, for, his playwrights discuss
almost all forms of error found in human nature. His play, Hamlet, is one of the second most famous
plays out of all which conveys that man cannot always be courageous and content. Throughout the
play, Shakespeare creates numerous conflicts between characters. Mainly, Hamlet himself has tensions
between other characters. The reason Shakespeare may do this is to exemplify the differences between
Hamlet and another character. Through the use of soliloquies, Shakespeare highlights the cowardice,
gloomy traits of Hamlet which ultimately allows the audience to determine that Hamlet is a cowardly,
miserable man in comparison to another character in the play like Prince Fortinbras. After promising
to avenge his father s death, Hamlet s state of mind turns for the worst. As the play develops, Hamlet
becomes less and less of a leader whom people look up to and more and more of a cowardly man.
Hamlet comes to realize this himself, and it also becomes evident to the audience in a soliloquy from
Act 4, Scene 4. In this scene from the play, Hamlet is being taken to England and along the way he
comes across Fortinbras and his army. Hamlet assumes that Fortinbras has his mind set on taking the
entire country of Poland, but really it is only for a small amount of land. Following his encounter,
Hamlet begins to ponder. It is within these thoughts that Shakespeare reveals Hamlet s true

England s Demographic Changes During The Industrial...
England s experience with change in demographic is one that is almost entirely based on pure simple
cause and effect. For them everything was basically stemmed from a need. No matter which model
one chooses to use as the basis of one came because of the other either there was a larger population
which required more or, there was more money and people felt more comfortable in having more
children. Under either model it stems all from economic reasons. France experienced demographic
change in the industrial revolution entirely different from the English. France in general was a country
that had a much more complicated social structure than England. (Cobban, p. 163) While it can be

In 1792 a divorce law was created that was for both men and women, this law allowed for more or less
divorce on demand for either party for any reason. This along with it becoming more common to use
condoms and their more widespread availability were other key societal factors in keeping their
birthrates much lower than the other countries. Along with this idea also is the fact that since French
peasants believed in primogeniture meaning the oldest son inherited all the land and the younger sons
lived mostly as just celibate permeant farm hands. Therefore, it was in the French peasants best
interest to try and have as few kids as possible so as to not have this problem. (Urdank, Lecture 15)
However, as progressive as France may have been with them trying to keep their birthrates lower for
many reasons it did indeed have its drawbacks. Due to these facts they were one of the countries who
industrialized much later than others around them. (Urdank, Lecture 15) This is a fact that many
French writers to this very day look rather regretfully on. (Wrigely, p. 71) However, due to their later
industrialization France was able to keep their artisan culture as well as remain far more rooted in
smaller time agriculture. (Urdank, Lecture

Boxer Benny Paret Figurative Language
Deaths are prominent news among the general public, especially ones concerning sports. Boxer Benny
Paret was killed due to a match, causing him to fall into a coma and never awaken. When the event
occurred in 1962, many opinions were shared, including the ones expressed in the essays of Norman
Mailer and Norman Cousins. Although they cover the same event of Benny Paret s death, they do so
in completely different ways. Mailer uses language to create a very poetic tone, illustrating the event
with figurative language. Cousins, on the other hand, takes a more direct, condemning route, asserting
the cause of Benny Paret s death was due simply to society and nobody else. While both use figurative
language and rhetorical devices such as similes, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He focuses not on the match, but on the industry putting people who are able to kill in a ring for profit.
Cousins is extremely condemning of the sport, not blaming Paret s manager or even Emile Griffiths,
the man who delivered the blows that eventually led to Paret s death. Instead, Cousins approaches it
factually, stating matter of factly, Benny Paret was killed because the human fist delivers enough
impact, when directed against the head, to produce a massive hemorrhage in the brain (Cousins).
Cousins is completely against this sort of fighting, and declares that it is a legitimate killer. He furthers
his point by addressing the fact that, You put killers in the ring and the people filled your arena. You
hire boxing artists... and you wind up counting your empty seats (Cousins). In that passage, the
juxtaposition and antithesis of killers versus boxing artists makes the significance of the business
aspect clear, and in turn showing how higher value is placed in money and a good show over a person
s life. Furthermore, Cousins presents his arguments with superb diction, using phrases like, prevailing
mores to appeal to a higher educated audience. His audience is not anyone who wants to know about
the fight, but rather those who share in his opinions and believe there is a fault in

Nietzsche s View On The Genealogy Of Morals
According to Nietzsche s assertions in the first two essays of On the Genealogy of Morals, human
beings suffer because they have lost the ability to enjoy life to its fullest extent. A significant shift in
morals occurred from the time of the ancient Greeks and Romans, who carried out good deeds with a
surplus of energy simply because they could afford to do so, to the predominantly Judeo Christian era
of self repression. This transition demonstrates a decline in our ability to make sense of our lives and
understand our true human purpose. Nietzsche suggests that we have become out of touch with the
truth we are no longer present in our lives. He urges us to recognize the social constraints to which we
sometimes unknowingly submit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clearly the Greeks fully embraced life, allowing themselves to feel and express a spectrum of human
emotions. One of the reasons Nietzsche so highly values the Greeks is because while they understood
that life is essentially, and inevitably painful, they still had the strength to affirm it and act decisively,
even horribly (Gemes, ch.12). This is Nietzsche s ideal affirmation of life.
The Judeo Christian mindset, on the other hand, differs in that it inspires self repression of natural
human instincts, leading to suffering in the name of a divine force called God. They are miserable says
Nietzsche, but they tell me their misery is a sign of being chosen by God (BWE, 135). Christianity and
the church were major foundations of European society in the Middle Ages when life was particularly
difficult due to the plague, low standards of hygiene, and poor quality of education. Given such
horrible conditions, the possibility of an afterlife seemed quite attractive. Christians were therefore
consoled for all their earthly suffering by the fantasy of an afterlife, so called The Kingdom of God
(BWE, 137). They found a way to rationalize and justify suffering, therefore experiencing it with
acceptance and joy. The idea was that if a person lived a pious earthly life, they would be rewarded

An Effective Image File Storage Technique Using Data De...
ABSTRACT
Recent years have seen a rapid growth in the number of virtual machines and virtual machine images
that are managed to support infrastructure as a service (IaaS). For example, Amazon Elastic Compute
Cloud (EC2) has 6,521 public virtual machine images. This creates several challenges in management
of image files in a cloud computing environment.
In particular, a large amount of duplicate data that exists in image files consumes significant storage
space. To address this problem, we propose an effective image file storage technique using data de
duplication with a modified fixed size block scheme. When a user requests to store an image file, this
technique first calculates the fingerprint for the image file, and then compares the fingerprint with the
fingerprints in a fingerprint library. If the fingerprint of the image is already in the library, a pointer to
the existing fingerprint is used to store this image. Otherwise this image will be processed using the
fixed size block image segmentation method.
The experiments show that this technique can significantly reduce the transmission time of image files
that have already existed in storage. Also the deletion rate for image groups which have the same
version of operating systems but different versions of software applications is up about 58%.
Keywords: cloud computing, image files, data deduplication.

Second, there is has also been a large increase in military and commercial aviation transportation.
Thirdly, due to more urbanization and city growth, natural birds and wildlife habitats have become
fewer. In this case, more birds and wildlife have began settling near airports. With the increase in
damages to aircraft from bird and wildlife strikes, how do airports prevent from future collisions with
bird and wildlife? Airports have many traditional ways of treating the issue. Some are environmentally
safe while others may cause controversy with environmental and government groups. Each does have
its pros and cons though. One method is the use of firearms. This method is quick but requires precise
accuracy and quick judgment Either shooting to scare or to kill and remove the animal, this method is
the least popular due to the fact that some wildlife are either endangered or under environmental
protection. For example a United States airport would lose it s public opinion if one of the animal
control employes opened fire upon an American Bald Eagle which happens to be the national bird.
The use chemicals is another method that is non violent to deter bird and wildlife. Some airports use
certain plants that produce chemicals and odors the makes wildlife uncomfortable and stay away from
the airfield. Though this method is non violent to birds and wildlife, it does have its set backs.
Chemicals used to spray around the airfield can

The Effects of Sport on Levels of Mindfulness and...
The area of research that will be of focal concern is conscious awareness in relation to the concept of

particular attention being paid to an important aspect of sport psychology known as flow .
Mindfulness has its roots in ancient spiritual traditions, namely Buddhism (Keng, Smoski, Robins,
2011), and is commonly defined as the awareness that emerges through paying attention on purpose,
in the present moment, and non judgmentally to the unfolding experience moment by moment (Kabat

Beginning with the work of Jon Kabat Zinn and the practice of mindfulness based stress reduction
(MBSR), which explored the use of mindfulness meditation in treating patients with chronic pain
(Keng, Smoski, Robins, 2011), a growing body of research concerning the cognitive behavioural
tradition emerged. Within this tradition it was assumed that cognition plays a vital role in determining
behaviour (Huss Baer, 2007), therefore, by drawing on the two components of mindfulness put forth
by Bishop et al (2004), clinicians established that the development of mindfulness skills, such as
focussed breathing (which cultivates the state of mindfulness), can lead to; increased self awareness
and self acceptance; reduced reactivity to thoughts and emotions; and improved ability to cope with
problematic situations (Linehan, 1993). In addition to this, research revealed that those who undergo
mindfulness training also experience improved ability to sustain attention in the present moment
(Marks, 2008). From a similar stance, recent studies carried out by sport psychologists provided an
indication towards a relationship between aspects of mindfulness and sporting performance, in which
theories of flow and peak performance were evidently compatible with the constructs of mindfulness
(Kaufman, Glass, Arnkoff, 2009). Csikszentmihalyi (1990; as cited in Bernier, Thienot,

Abols And Symbolism In Yann Martel s Life Of Pi
Do bananas really float? This is a problem that two characters in Life of Pi struggled comprehending
towards the end of the the story. Life of Pi by Yann Martel is about a boy named Pi Patel that ends up
stranded on a lifeboat with a tiger, in the Pacific. In Life of Pi a major key thematic statement that
Yann Martel makes during Pi s journey is that just because things may seem unrealistic, it doesn t
mean that people cannot overcome or complete a task . Yann uses the island s setting, Pi s religious
development, and the banana symbolism to deliver his thematic message.
First unrealistic task that came about would be the island s setting, along the unusual setting in
general. Not very often, if ever is it usual to hear about being stranded on an acidic island with a tiger,
but as we can see from Yann s story it can happen. Yann sets Pi running into an acidic island made of
no soil, but alge instead. As Pi is explaining to the investigators, they have a really hard time believing
Pi. Pi had been through a lot during his journey, and Yann adds how Pi is hoarding food from being so
traumatized. He s already had plenty and most he hasn t even eaten. There right underneath his bed
sheet. The men seeing these actions done by Pi, confuses them and that even leads to them not
thinking that the story he is telling is true. As they continue to listen to Pi he adds things like how he

The Generation Of Generation And Student Loan Debt
Generation X faces many issues unique to their generation, technology was advancing, and computer
were becoming more affordable and widespread. They faced both social and ecological issues, with
advances in medicine that caused the generation before them to live longer, and being the one of the
first generations to be effected by student loan debt. Generation Xers are often known for their high
level of skepticism and their what do I get out of this attitudes. They are considered to be the first
generation of latchkey kids, or kids without much boundaries. During the 60 s and 70 s divorce rates
were at an all time high, so many of the children of this generation were exposed to large amounts of
divorce (Schroer). Which might explain for the high levels of skepticism and freedom they had. It
seemed they also didn t care much for politics sense they had the lowest voting participant rate of any

Abstract
There two main means of providing and producing public services in the United States at the different
levels of government. The first mode is knows as in house production by direct government workforce
and contracting out to the private sector, which we refer to as privatization.
Privatization in the United States mainly implies contracting out of public services to the public sector.
Examples are local governments like the city or the county contracting out services like street
cleaning, garbage pick up and a disposal, education, healthcare, etc.
During the last three decades, privatization has become increasingly popular in our government. This
noticeable growth of privatization of public services has generated lots of discussions and debates
among many scholars and left many of asking the questions.
In this paper, I will define privatization and explore different published articles that discuss
contracting out to the

The Navy Of The Coast Guard
1. Today when looking at members of the Coast Guard there is very little difference in uniform to
distinguish the senior enlisted and Officer Corps from that of the Junior Enlisted Corps. The Coast
Guard believes that there is a distinct difference between a First Class Petty Officer and a Chief but
has gone away from making that difference easy to see from a distance. The Navy goes so far as to
change the entire color and style of their uniform as well as the change of the combination cover when
a member is advanced to the pay grade of E 7. This is due to the belief that the amount of
responsibility one takes on with this advancement warrants the clear delineation, one that can be seen
right away. Furthermore, even today when going through the Chiefs Call to Indoctrination process, all
Navy and Coast Guard Chiefs build a hat box solely for the purpose of housing their new combination
cover, a cover that in today s Coast Guard members have been wearing since boot camp. The Coast
Guard used to make the same uniform change as the Navy, and we have strayed from this tradition,
strayed at the cost of a loss of respect in this advancement. The Coast Guard should visibly distinguish
E 7 and above by making a change in the uniform regulations and making E 7 and above only
authorized to wear the combination cover. 2. All members of the Coast Guard, As per ref (a), pay for
and are issued a Combination Cover upon accession into the Service. This cover, especially for junior

Themes In The Scarlet Ibis
Do not let pride become a danger to others
From the beginning no one thought he would live, he was even given a name that only sounded good
on a gravestone. His own Brother even plotted to kill him, but one afternoon the boy, Doodle smiled at
his Brother. That action caused his Brother to believe that he could live and he was all there . Doodle
was born as a disappointment. At birth he had a big head and a small body, his skin was red and
shriveled like an old man. Everyone expected him to die. his father had the carpenter build a coffin for

Early the next day, Alayna joined her brother and Jon in the stands. Having spent so much time with

determine who would face off in the champion s tilt the next day. Alayna watched on her breath
caught in her throat as she wished for Arthur to draw either Griff or Ser Barristan for this round. Fate,
however, was not on their side as he drew Prince Rhaegar s name. Bowing her head, the lady from
Highgarden sighed. This had not been what she d been hoping for at all, what should ve been the final

Observation Of Wild African Elephants
Wild African elephants may break sleep records for mammals. New data show that they seem to get
by just fine on about two hours of shut eye a night. Much of that snoozing took place while they were
standing up. The animals lie down to sleep only once every three to four nights. Trying to figure out
how much wild elephants sleep just by watching them 24 hours a day is tricky, especially in the dark.
Much of what scientists had known about sleeping elephants came from animals living in captivity,
notes Paul Manger. He is a neuroscientist, or brain researcher, at the University of the Witwatersrand
in Johannesburg, South Africa. In zoos and enclosures, elephants have been recorded snoozing from
about three hours to nearly seven during a 24 hour period. Using electronic monitors on ... Show more

The new data seem to now confirm they were right. Manger and his team shared their findings March
1 in PLOS ONE. What they learned Manger and his colleagues implanted activity monitors (similar to
Fitbit trackers) in the trunks of two elephants. Both were matriarchs (female leaders) of their herds in
the Chobe National Park. It lies in northern Botswana, a nation in southern Africa. The trunk on these
animals is 250 pounds of muscle, Manger says. That s why, he says, these moms would hardly have
noticed the small tracker implants. Trunks, like human hands, are important for exploring the world.
Elephants rarely keep them still unless sleeping. The researchers assumed that a trunk monitor that
didn t move for at least five minutes likely meant its host was asleep. Neck collars helped researchers
figure out whether animals were standing up or lying down. The electronic devices tracked the
animals over about a month. During that time, the elephants averaged just two hours of sleep a day.
What s more, the elephants were able to skip a night s sleep without needing extra naps the next

Monroe Doctrine And Self-Interest
The Monroe Doctrine: When American Self Interest Overrides All
Introduction:
The term democracy etymologically derived from the Greek words demos which means the people
and kratos which means the power . Thus when an individual shouts out democracy, they mean power
of the people. From the footprints of colonial soldiers to the imprints of national newspapers, power to
the people or democracy, has be the revitalizing force in the country of the United States. In the early
1820s, two prominent threats emerged in the Americas that could possibly threat democracy; Russians
in the west, and Spanish recolonization in Latin American. After denying alliance with Britain to
defeat such forces, on December 2nd ,1823 President James Monroe declared that from henceforth,
the Americas were off limits to European colonization and that any attempt on their part to extend
their system to any portion of this hemisphere would cause the United states to intervene. Some
politicians believe the Monroe Doctrine was a bold stance against European colonization. However, it
is evident that the Monroe Doctrine was solely an act to fulfill American self interest, as prior to the
doctrine the United States did not support the new republics, the Monroe doctrine promoted
dominance in the western hemisphere, and the Monroe Doctrine arose from Anglophobia. First point:
The Monroe Doctrine selfishly satisfied American self interest because the United States did not
support the new

For the consequences of wiping out American cities with atomic weapons would result in the
simultaneous destruction of Soviet cities from an American counter attack. The ultimate result would
be mutually assured destruction on both sides. The ecological reprocussions from such a scenario
would be disasterous. Both the Americans and the Soviets had enough nuclear weapons to not only
wipe each other off the map, but also enduce a global nuclear winter which is when the nuclear fallout
is so thick it blocks out the sun, lowering the global climate, killing of plantlife, animal life which
depended on that plantlife, and ultimately causing a complete food chain disruption. Hell on Earth as

Fortunately, worldwide nuclear winter was only a possibility, never a reality. But for some people, the

According to Pope Francis during a speech at the Vatican during 2016, a simplified version of the role
of religion is to; It is firstly, to answer the complexity of the world to answer questions that cannot be
answered. Secondly, human beings seek purpose in their lives, and religion gives many people that
purpose. Finally, Religion provides assistance in making choices and providing an ethical and moral
framework, providing rules to live a good and just life (Brennan , What Pope Francis means for the
Church in the modern world, 2013). The interviewee Michael also believed in this definition and also
believed that the role of a religion, Christian or not should provide values and a way to express one
self s beliefs, allowing yourself to become more spiritually connected. Another major point he
mentioned was; religion used to be a major source of societal progression during the early days of
Australia, however because of Generation Y s turn away from organised religion and the increases in
individualism, religion s role in Australia, has started to fade, but there is hope for the future.
However, without a doubt religion and our culture is diversifying, with a wide variety of religions

CONS:
A disadvantage is that this proposal is a short term solution to a long term problem. Since the school

offset these costs.
In addition, future generations would suffer from even higher fees because operating costs would still

The play An Inspector Calls by J.B. Priestley is about a wealthy family in pre war England. At this

Reflection On Group Processes And Dynamics Essay
A Reflection on Group Processes and Dynamics
Working within a group or team is unavoidable for most people. We are involved in sports teams,
assignment groups, work teams, social groups and a variety of other groups and teams. Each of these
groups share one thing in common, that is each requires us to communicate in some way in order to
reach a shared goal or target. Therefore, it is imperative to know and understand how to work and
communicate effectively with others to maximise outcomes and productivity.
Tuckman proposes that groups develop via five stages; forming, storming, norming, performing and
finally adjourning (Archee, Gurney, Mohan, 2013a). The first stage, known as forming, involves
clarifying the task and purpose of the group, and identifying boundaries of both the task and
interpersonal behaviour (Archee et al., 2013a). For the presentation task we were randomly allocated
into groups. This worried me greatly as I have struggled in the past with group members who do not
contribute equally or see the task as important as other group members. To avoid this problem, the
group collectively determined and agreed upon a number of ground rules. For example, we decided
that all group members were expected to contribute equally to the presentation, all group members
were expected to attend and contribute at all group meetings, and all group members would adhere to
agreed upon deadlines. Having failed to do this in previous group assignments, this clarification stage

It is clear that the marketing managers of John Lewis have built a strong brand and maximised its
equity. In order to do this there are characteristics of strong brand which marketing managers must
work towards (see Appendix A).
2.1. How does John Lewis stand out?
Some companies choose to adopt a brand strategy and Riezebos (2003) explains that this consists of
differentiating the brand and adding value to the brand. By aiming for differentiation in a strategy, it
gives a brand competitive advantage.
Brand competitors and the diversity of choice that is available to consumers, puts brands under
pressure to offer high quality products and service, excellent value and a wide availability (Clifton et
al., 2009). Brands must differentiate themselves from the competition and create an unforgettable
impression.
After positioning the brand, an organisation should establish Points of Difference and Points of Parity
associations. Points of difference are the associations that are unique to the brand and are held
favourably by consumers. Points of parity associations however are not unique, but are the
associations that are shared with other brands and are necessary for a company to be legitimate and
credible (Keller, 1998).
John Lewis is unique amongst British retailers as its partners own the company. In 1929 owner John

When we set ourselves to the work of collecting or re collecting the scattered pieces of ourselves, we

Skepticism
Science and Faith: Freud, one of the most well respected researchers of the human experience, claims
that religion is a universal neurosis that civilization substitutes for a more authentic personal reality
based on scientific knowledge (Jones and Butman, 1991, 77). Thus, to presume that illness and

something about who we are and where our destiny may be (Dossey, 1993, 6).
Prayer Treatment: the practice of people praying for someone else. This does not imply medical or
surgical treatments may not also be prescribed.
Research
The first accepted study correlating prayer to physical health was Collipp (1969), who followed
eighteen terminally ill children. Ten were selected to be prayed for by Protestant Christians, while the
other eight had no known prayer for their healing. The people praying only knew the names, genders,
and basic conditions of those for whom they were praying. Neither the children, nor their families, nor
the doctors were informed of the prayer treatment. After fifteen months, seven of the ten children
receiving prayer treatment were alive, while only two of the eight not receiving treatment survived.
Byrd (1988) retested Collipp s findings with a larger sample. 393 patients in the coronary care unit
were assigned to two groups, one to receive daily prayer treatment from born again Christian
intercessors along with normal treatment and one to receive the normal treatment alone. After ten
months, twenty one of twenty six medical measures of health were better in the patients who received
prayer treatments (Byrd 1988) including only three

Disadvantages Of Uber Technology
Uber is a transportation network application developed by the company Uber Technologies Inc.
Launched in 2011, Uber is currently available to over sixty countries, including the Philippines. This
transportation service has proved to be a convenient and innovative way of getting from point A to
point B. Maintaining a 4.5 star rating on the Apple App Store and a 4 star rating Google Play Store, it
is obvious that the public s reception of Uber is positive. As for myself, a college student who uses
Uber on a daily basis, I can say that it is a user friendly and creative way of traveling around the city.
Of course, a vital role played in all transportation services is the vehicle operator or the driver. Uber
interviews and screens the drivers to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Andrew said that GrabTaxi drivers can refuse to take a passenger which would only cause
inconvenience, unlike Uber wherein the drivers cannot turn down a passenger. He also added that the
vehicles for Uber needed to at least be the 2013 model or newer so that ensures comfort for both the
driver and the passenger. Another advantage that Uber has over GrabTaxi, according to Andrew, is that
the mode of payment is credit card and not cash. Because of this mode of payment, the drivers need
not worry about giving change, nor do the passengers need to consider if the amount of money they
are carrying is enough to pay for the trip. Andrew also added that Uber is safer than GrabTaxi for both
the driver and the rider for they both learn a few details about each other before the ride starts, and at
the end of a trip, the passenger and the driver rate each other through the app which serves as feedback
which will be seen by the next driver/passenger. I expected the answers he gave since the reasons he
enumerated are also the same reasons I use Uber instead of GrabTaxi. Basically, Uber is easier to use,
safer, and more

What Is The Theme Of The Glass Menagerie
Struggling between illusion and reality always drives people crazy. The general theme made by
Tennessee Williams in her work The glass menagerie is that people have difficulties in accepting and
relating to reality. More specifically, Mr. Williams indicates that even though sometimes people realize
what the reality is, they try to escape and look for comfort in their private world of illusion.
Tennessee Williams was born in a chaotic family of which the environment inspired him of the
writings. Since Williams had diphtheria, which caused his inability in physical activities, he stayed at
home and started creating of imagination on the typewriter. His father was an abusive and alcoholic
salesman who had a violent temper and inclination to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Amanda s relationship to reality is the most complicated in the play. Unlike her children, she is partial
to real world values and longs for social and financial success. She cannot accept that she is or should
be anything other than the pampered belle she was brought up to be, that Laura is peculiar, that Tom is
not a budding businessman, and that she herself might be in some ways responsible for the sorrows
and flaws of her children. Amanda s retreat into illusion is in many ways more pathetic than her
children s, because it is not a willful imaginative construction but a wistful distortion of reality.

The Rhetorical Analysis Of The Prince By Niscali Niccoli
Full RA_The Prince Back in the monarchy day, where an entire nation is rule by a person, either a
King or a Queen. People assuming that every single ruler have to be kind and set a good example to
their people. However, in the four excerpt of the Prince , written by Machiavelli Niccolo, a diplomat
and political theorist, to send a message to Lorenzo de Medicito on how to be a successful prince.
Machiavelli express in an understand tone that to be a good ruler it is necessary to be both evil and
good by using a compound complex sentence with negative adjectives, reality example and visuality
imagery.
Machiavelli uses a compound complex sentence to inform those who want to be a leader the need of
malevolent. Machiavelli uses an independent and dependent clause to gain attention from audience
with the purpose of clearing his idea. For Machiavelli s long sentences in the end of the first
paragraph, the prince profession of virtue will get destroyed by other evil. This cause and effect
sentence help the audience to have an images of the impossible of a perfect pure personality of a
leader. He warn those who want to be a leader that the prince should be wise and knowing when to act
evil rather than good. Moreover, he lists good and bad adjectives such as cruel and compassionate to
imply that a good ruler need to be both moral and immoral. .After all the conventional moral advice,
he convey to the prince that action that appear good will damage his position, prince s power, while
those that depict as bad will enhance it.
After teasing the audience with the unexpected real truth with the necessity of evil act to be able to be
a right ruler. Machiavelli go deep in and focus on discussing of the virtue liberality , generosity by
using reality images. He believed that a reputation for generosity is desirable, but can be very
dangerous to acquire. Machiavelli state that the prince can t afford to be generous by tax his people
but if he gives his own property he will be poor or hatred. Which make the audience feel
uncomfortable because the tax images illustrate how hard it is to be a generous leader. A display that
the prince being mean as the same time as liberal ,generosity rule properly.

The Effects Of Stress On The World
On the topic of stress, research has widened eyes on the issues of stress because stress is related to
how many hours one is spending away from family or friends. In America, it was customary that
people work long hours. In the U.S., 85.8 percent of males and 66.5 percent of females work more
than 40 hours per week (G.E. Miller). But for many Americans, more work leads to more stress and a
lower quality of life. This amount of stress is not only known to the United States of America, it is
actually culturally extended to other parts of the world. At least 134 countries have laws setting the
maximum length of the work week; the U.S. does not (G.E. Miller). In Japan overwork is known as

First, teachers don t get equal pay then gets mistreated by those involved in their work environment
like the principle, or more commonly, the students. Generally, with other jobs as well, money is
always top of mind. When Kontje talks to employees, she concluded, These employees want to do
better with their money. They know they should be saving for retirement. The know the need to have
an emergency fund. They just don t know where to start. Money and the economy is a huge stress
factor. No matter what job one has, they are constantly worried about how to pay the bills or planning
out their spendings, vacations and if there is enough money for it. Although, The American
Psychological Association (APA) has released its latest Stress in America report, with some good
news to report. Overall, average stress levels in the US are trending downward. Nearly three quarters
of the people surveyed said they had stressed about money at some point in the last month, while only
a quarter said they are stressed about money most or all of the time. Stress levels are decreasing, but
that still leaves more than half of workers stressed. No matter how low stress levels decrease, people
will always have stress.
Sociality is a significant factor leading to stress and stress can be something that imposes on one s
social life. When undergoing high level or persistent stress, individuals frequently

7 Years War Salutary Neglect Essay
The British defeat of the French following the French and Indian War (also known as the 7 Years War
) led to the end of salutary neglect in America. Salutary neglect was a period of time in which the
British interfered very little in colonial affairs, and this lasted from the end of the 1600s up until the
British victory over the French in the 7 Years War. The end of salutary neglect marked the beginning
of Britain s increasing control over the American colonies and attempt in raising taxes to help pay for
the war. The most well known legislatures they passed included the Proclamation Line of 1763, which
restricted the colonists from expanding westward, and numerous acts taxing the colonies on
commodities such as the Sugar Act, which taxed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many things stayed the same, which is why the American Revolution was as big of a turning point in
American history, as most people make it to be. The most important aspects of American life that
remained stagnant after the Revolution were the class structures and social classes present in the
United States. If anything, the social classes in America became even more polarized as those who
were part of the wealthy elite group rose to power while the poor shrank back in oppression. The new
nation found itself possessed of enormous wealth so that it could create the richest ruling class in
history. When Loyalist land was confiscated after the war, it was distributed among the Revolutionary
leaders, so they could enrich themselves and their friends . The wealthy were very well off prior to but
also following the Revolution, as seen in the previous quote but what about the Revolutionary war
veterans, who sacrificed many things to fight for America? Their lives were left off much worse than
before, and were paid only $6.66 a month, despite all the sacrifices they made for the country. Also,
the rebellion left poor white workers and farmers in very much their old situation . Their

Napoleon And The French Revolution
With all the glory and the splendour that some countries may have experienced, never has history seen
how only only one man, Napoleon, brought up his country France from its most tormented status, to
the very pinnacle of its height in just a few years time. He was a military hero who won splendid land
based battles, which allowed him to dominate most of the European continent. He was a man with
ambition, great self control and calculation, a great strategist, a genius; whatever it was, he was simply
the best. But, even though how great this person was, something about how he governed France still
floats among people s minds. Did he abuse his power? Did Napoleon defeat the purpose of the ideals
of the French Revolution? After all of his success in his military campaigns, did he gratify the people s
needs regarding their ideals on the French Revolution? This is one of the many controversies that we
have to deal with when studying Napoleon and the French Revolution. In this essay, I will discuss my
opinion on whether or not was he a destroyer of the ideals of the French Revolution. Certain
individuals approved of Napoleon s reign as the saviour of France. He finished and completed the
Revolution by fulfilling the ideals the people of France demanded. A person such as one belonging to
the bourgeoisie, or even a peasant would be very satisfied with the way Napoleon ruled over the
country. He gave them equality, freedom, justice, and many rights. Such things never existed

  • 2. Analytical Essay Michelle Obama Delprøve 2, opgave B Analytical essay of Remarks by the First Lady at Education Event with DC High School Sophomores The speech was held by the First Lady, Michelle Obama, at the DC High School as an educational event for the sophomores. The overriding subject of the speech is education which is an area Michelle Obama and her husband, Barack Obama, has spent a lot of time and resources on. After the introduction of the speech she speaks of a goal that her husband has set for America. She tells that it should be the goal of the entire country to have the highest proportion of college graduates in the world in 2020. As mentioned earlier the speech was held during an educational event. That is the circumstance of the speech and under that she addresses the topic education. The purpose of the speech is to motivate the students to continue their education when they have finished high school in order to succeed later in life. • 3. A Public Service Announcement ( Psa ) Can Help Reduce The... A Public Service Announcement (PSA) can help reduce the number of distracted driving accidents by explaining the horrible effects of distracted driving and the best ways to prevent distracted driving. Currently, the main source of distracted driving is cell phones. Cell phones cause a person to text, call, and use social media while driving; all factors that can be a deadly distraction while driving. A cell phone causes much distraction for the driver and may cause the driver to have a car crash that not only affects themselves, but also the surrounding people. As a community, we should be educating people about distracted driving in order to prevent the problem and decrease the number of accidents. Public Service Announcements are important as they provide people with evidence, resources to limit distraction while driving, and helpful/important information. Teenagers, children, and even adults will be able to be informed. Even though educating people through a Public Service Announcement is important, it might not be viewed by most people and will not be effective towards the younger viewers. Teenagers and even adults might dismiss a Public Service Announcement because the announcement does not grab their attention or because the person might not care. Over the past years, cell phones have completely transformed how Americans communicate. Unavoidably, these wireless devices have made a huge impact on the nation s transportation system. Cell phones are the leading cause of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Man s Search For Meaning By Viktor E. Frankl Viktor E. Frankl s novel Man s Search for Meaning is a novel founded on the personal journey of Viktor and how he discovered his meaning in life. In the course of his discovery of the meaning of life he decides to hopefully help those in pain and sufferings find their meaning as well. The book entails tragedy and extreme misfortune in Auschwitz concentration camp as a captive; yet through this pain and suffering is where Viktor Frankl originated his will to persevere and psychological techniques for survival. Throughout Viktor E. Frankl s book Man s Search for Meaning mental, physical, and emotional torture and attack impressed on the prisoners in the Auschwitz concentration camp was a regular and familiar topic. The accompanying guards kept shouting at us and driving us with the butts of their rifles. Anyone with very sore feet supported himself on his neighbor s arm. Hardly a word was spoken; the icy wind did not encourage talk. (Page #37) If I was compelled to experience an organization or group of authorities that I had no rights or privileges whatsoever, while enduring the harsh realities of nature s weather, and facing weapons intended to take my life and the lives around me, I would most likely be in survival mode and be focused on trying to be as composed and camouflaged as possible. It is admirable how the prisoners in this recollection from Viktor are thinking of one another as well as themselves by assisting their fellow man in survival as well. I would like ... • 8. Narrative Writing Assignments Of Pretentious Middle School... Hyperextended crabs. Pinwheel of death. Broken winged pterodactyl. Such terminology seems befitting of comparisons found in the interpretive writing assignments of pretentious middle school students in an introductory art class. At the very least, they certainly do not invoke the feelings associated with rational conceptions of what they describe in reality: districts across ordinary towns in the United States. More sensibly, one could delegate responsibility for these frighteningly amorphous and visually unappealing figures to the contrived workings of legislatures, yet a certain degree of accountability ought to be attributed to the currently flawed legal precedent for handling the intricacies of one of America s most virulent issues. Furthermore, the issue runs much deeper than the superficial concerns from, they are physically discernable warning signs of a startling trend that regrettably stifles political discourse and obscures the legitimate appeals of constituents: the prevalence of district gerrymandering. Every decade, as per the Supreme Court s ruling in Reynolds v. Sims, U.S. Congressional districts reevaluate the status quo situation of political district in regards to population, and redraw their individual localities accordingly. So since the day Soviet Union launch the United States responded so they created NASA to improve education to train future engineers, and developing technology to win the Space Race. The U.S. government, military, and scientific community were caught off guard by the Soviet technological achievement. • 12. The Conflict Between Characters In Hamlet By William... Shakespeare is one of the world s most renown play writers in the world, for, his playwrights discuss almost all forms of error found in human nature. His play, Hamlet, is one of the second most famous plays out of all which conveys that man cannot always be courageous and content. Throughout the play, Shakespeare creates numerous conflicts between characters. Mainly, Hamlet himself has tensions between other characters. The reason Shakespeare may do this is to exemplify the differences between Hamlet and another character. Through the use of soliloquies, Shakespeare highlights the cowardice, gloomy traits of Hamlet which ultimately allows the audience to determine that Hamlet is a cowardly, miserable man in comparison to another character in the play like Prince Fortinbras. After promising to avenge his father s death, Hamlet s state of mind turns for the worst. As the play develops, Hamlet becomes less and less of a leader whom people look up to and more and more of a cowardly man. Hamlet comes to realize this himself, and it also becomes evident to the audience in a soliloquy from Act 4, Scene 4. In this scene from the play, Hamlet is being taken to England and along the way he comes across Fortinbras and his army. Hamlet assumes that Fortinbras has his mind set on taking the entire country of Poland, but really it is only for a small amount of land. Following his encounter, Hamlet begins to ponder. For them everything was basically stemmed from a need. No matter which model one chooses to use as the basis of one came because of the other either there was a larger population which required more or, there was more money and people felt more comfortable in having more children. Under either model it stems all from economic reasons. France experienced demographic change in the industrial revolution entirely different from the English. Along with this idea also is the fact that since French peasants believed in primogeniture meaning the oldest son inherited all the land and the younger sons lived mostly as just celibate permeant farm hands. Therefore, it was in the French peasants best interest to try and have as few kids as possible so as to not have this problem. Although they cover the same event of Benny Paret s death, they do so in completely different ways. Mailer uses language to create a very poetic tone, illustrating the event with figurative language. Cousins is completely against this sort of fighting, and declares that it is a legitimate killer. He furthers his point by addressing the fact that, You put killers in the ring and the people filled your arena. You hire boxing artists... and you wind up counting your empty seats (Cousins). In that passage, the juxtaposition and antithesis of killers versus boxing artists makes the significance of the business aspect clear, and in turn showing how higher value is placed in money and a good show over a person s life. • 16. Nietzsche s View On The Genealogy Of Morals According to Nietzsche s assertions in the first two essays of On the Genealogy of Morals, human beings suffer because they have lost the ability to enjoy life to its fullest extent. A significant shift in morals occurred from the time of the ancient Greeks and Romans, who carried out good deeds with a surplus of energy simply because they could afford to do so, to the predominantly Judeo Christian era of self repression. This transition demonstrates a decline in our ability to make sense of our lives and understand our true human purpose. One of the reasons Nietzsche so highly values the Greeks is because while they understood that life is essentially, and inevitably painful, they still had the strength to affirm it and act decisively, even horribly (Gemes, ch.12). This is Nietzsche s ideal affirmation of life. The Judeo Christian mindset, on the other hand, differs in that it inspires self repression of natural human instincts, leading to suffering in the name of a divine force called God. They are miserable says Nietzsche, but they tell me their misery is a sign of being chosen by God (BWE, 135). Christianity and the church were major foundations of European society in the Middle Ages when life was particularly difficult due to the plague, low standards of hygiene, and poor quality of education. Given such horrible conditions, the possibility of an afterlife seemed quite attractive. Christians were therefore consoled for all their earthly suffering by the fantasy of an afterlife, so called The Kingdom of God (BWE, 137). They found a way to rationalize and justify suffering, therefore experiencing it with acceptance and joy. • 17. An Effective Image File Storage Technique Using Data De... ABSTRACT Recent years have seen a rapid growth in the number of virtual machines and virtual machine images that are managed to support infrastructure as a service (IaaS). For example, Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) has 6,521 public virtual machine images. This creates several challenges in management of image files in a cloud computing environment. In particular, a large amount of duplicate data that exists in image files consumes significant storage space. To address this problem, we propose an effective image file storage technique using data de duplication with a modified fixed size block scheme. When a user requests to store an image file, this technique first calculates the fingerprint for the image file, and then compares the fingerprint with the fingerprints in a fingerprint library. If the fingerprint of the image is already in the library, a pointer to the existing fingerprint is used to store this image. Otherwise this image will be processed using the fixed size block image segmentation method. The experiments show that this technique can significantly reduce the transmission time of image files that have already existed in storage. Also the deletion rate for image groups which have the same version of operating systems but different versions of software applications is up about 58%. Keywords: cloud computing, image files, data deduplication. CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION Cloud Computing enables universal, expedient network access to a shared ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This method is quick but requires precise accuracy and quick judgment Either shooting to scare or to kill and remove the animal, this method is the least popular due to the fact that some wildlife are either endangered or under environmental protection. Mindfulness has its roots in ancient spiritual traditions, namely Buddhism (Keng, Smoski, Robins, 2011), and is commonly defined as the awareness that emerges through paying attention on purpose, in the present moment, and non judgmentally to the unfolding experience moment by moment (Kabat Zinn, 2003, p. 145). Definitions like the preceding are common in contemporary literature, however many authors have suggested that mindfulness is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Beginning with the work of Jon Kabat Zinn and the practice of mindfulness based stress reduction (MBSR), which explored the use of mindfulness meditation in treating patients with chronic pain (Keng, Smoski, Robins, 2011), a growing body of research concerning the cognitive behavioural tradition emerged. Within this tradition it was assumed that cognition plays a vital role in determining behaviour (Huss Baer, 2007), therefore, by drawing on the two components of mindfulness put forth by Bishop et al (2004), clinicians established that the development of mindfulness skills, such as focussed breathing (which cultivates the state of mindfulness), can lead to; increased self awareness and self acceptance; reduced reactivity to thoughts and emotions; and improved ability to cope with problematic situations (Linehan, 1993). In addition to this, research revealed that those who undergo mindfulness training also experience improved ability to sustain attention in the present moment (Marks, 2008). From a similar stance, recent studies carried out by sport psychologists provided an indication towards a relationship between aspects of mindfulness and sporting performance, in which theories of flow and peak performance were evidently compatible with the constructs of mindfulness (Kaufman, Glass, Arnkoff, 2009). • 20. Abols And Symbolism In Yann Martel s Life Of Pi Do bananas really float? This is a problem that two characters in Life of Pi struggled comprehending towards the end of the the story. Life of Pi by Yann Martel is about a boy named Pi Patel that ends up stranded on a lifeboat with a tiger, in the Pacific. In Life of Pi a major key thematic statement that Yann Martel makes during Pi s journey is that just because things may seem unrealistic, it doesn t mean that people cannot overcome or complete a task . Yann uses the island s setting, Pi s religious development, and the banana symbolism to deliver his thematic message. First unrealistic task that came about would be the island s setting, along the unusual setting in general. Not very often, if ever is it usual to hear about being stranded on an acidic island with a tiger, but as we can see from Yann s story it can happen. Yann sets Pi running into an acidic island made of no soil, but alge instead. As Pi is explaining to the investigators, they have a really hard time believing Pi. Pi had been through a lot during his journey, and Yann adds how Pi is hoarding food from being so traumatized. He s already had plenty and most he hasn t even eaten. There right underneath his bed sheet. The men seeing these actions done by Pi, confuses them and that even leads to them not thinking that the story he is telling is true. • 25. The Navy Of The Coast Guard 1. Today when looking at members of the Coast Guard there is very little difference in uniform to distinguish the senior enlisted and Officer Corps from that of the Junior Enlisted Corps. The Coast Guard believes that there is a distinct difference between a First Class Petty Officer and a Chief but has gone away from making that difference easy to see from a distance. The Navy goes so far as to change the entire color and style of their uniform as well as the change of the combination cover when a member is advanced to the pay grade of E 7. This is due to the belief that the amount of responsibility one takes on with this advancement warrants the clear delineation, one that can be seen right away. Furthermore, even today when going through the Chiefs Call to Indoctrination process, all Navy and Coast Guard Chiefs build a hat box solely for the purpose of housing their new combination cover, a cover that in today s Coast Guard members have been wearing since boot camp. The Coast Guard used to make the same uniform change as the Navy, and we have strayed from this tradition, strayed at the cost of a loss of respect in this advancement. The Coast Guard should visibly distinguish E 7 and above by making a change in the uniform regulations and making E 7 and above only authorized to wear the combination cover. 2. The trunk on these animals is 250 pounds of muscle, Manger says. That s why, he says, these moms would hardly have noticed the small tracker implants. Trunks, like human hands, are important for exploring the world. Elephants rarely keep them still unless sleeping. The researchers assumed that a trunk monitor that didn t move for at least five minutes likely meant its host was asleep. Neck collars helped researchers figure out whether animals were standing up or lying down. The electronic devices tracked the animals over about a month. Monroe Doctrine And Self-Interest The Monroe Doctrine: When American Self Interest Overrides All Introduction: The term democracy etymologically derived from the Greek words demos which means the people and kratos which means the power . From the footprints of colonial soldiers to the imprints of national newspapers, power to the people or democracy, has be the revitalizing force in the country of the United States. In the early 1820s, two prominent threats emerged in the Americas that could possibly threat democracy; Russians in the west, and Spanish recolonization in Latin American. After denying alliance with Britain to defeat such forces, on December 2nd ,1823 President James Monroe declared that from henceforth, the Americas were off limits to European colonization and that any attempt on their part to extend their system to any portion of this hemisphere would cause the United states to intervene. We are involved in sports teams, assignment groups, work teams, social groups and a variety of other groups and teams. Each of these groups share one thing in common, that is each requires us to communicate in some way in order to reach a shared goal or target. Therefore, it is imperative to know and understand how to work and communicate effectively with others to maximise outcomes and productivity. Tuckman proposes that groups develop via five stages; forming, storming, norming, performing and finally adjourning (Archee, Gurney, Mohan, 2013a). The first stage, known as forming, involves clarifying the task and purpose of the group, and identifying boundaries of both the task and interpersonal behaviour (Archee et al., 2013a). For the presentation task we were randomly allocated into groups. This worried me greatly as I have struggled in the past with group members who do not contribute equally or see the task as important as other group members. To avoid this problem, the group collectively determined and agreed upon a number of ground rules. For example, we decided that all group members were expected to contribute equally to the presentation, all group members were expected to attend and contribute at all group meetings, and all group members would adhere to agreed upon deadlines. Having failed to do this in previous group assignments, this clarification stage ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is clear that the marketing managers of John Lewis have built a strong brand and maximised its equity. In order to do this there are characteristics of strong brand which marketing managers must work towards (see Appendix A). 2.1. How does John Lewis stand out? Some companies choose to adopt a brand strategy and Riezebos (2003) explains that this consists of differentiating the brand and adding value to the brand. By aiming for differentiation in a strategy, it gives a brand competitive advantage. Brand competitors and the diversity of choice that is available to consumers, puts brands under pressure to offer high quality products and service, excellent value and a wide availability (Clifton et al., 2009). Brands must differentiate themselves from the competition and create an unforgettable impression. After positioning the brand, an organisation should establish Points of Difference and Points of Parity associations. Points of difference are the associations that are unique to the brand and are held favourably by consumers. Points of parity associations however are not unique, but are the

  • 43. Essay The Biology of Prayer and Healing The Biology of Prayer and Healing When we set ourselves to the work of collecting or re collecting the scattered pieces of ourselves, we begin a task which, if carried to its natural conclusions, ultimately becomes prayer. Skepticism Science and Faith: Freud, one of the most well respected researchers of the human experience, claims that religion is a universal neurosis that civilization substitutes for a more authentic personal reality based on scientific knowledge (Jones and Butman, 1991, 77). Thus, to presume that illness and healing have anything to do with spirituality is absurd. Testability: Prayer and faith have no universal method of testing. Nor can it be proven that prayer is effective, for who can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For all intents and purposes, prayer in this discussion simply means a non local language that says something about who we are and where our destiny may be (Dossey, 1993, 6). Prayer Treatment: the practice of people praying for someone else. This does not imply medical or surgical treatments may not also be prescribed. Research The first accepted study correlating prayer to physical health was Collipp (1969), who followed eighteen terminally ill children. Ten were selected to be prayed for by Protestant Christians, while the other eight had no known prayer for their healing. The people praying only knew the names, genders, and basic conditions of those for whom they were praying. Neither the children, nor their families, nor the doctors were informed of the prayer treatment. After fifteen months, seven of the ten children receiving prayer treatment were alive, while only two of the eight not receiving treatment survived. Byrd (1988) retested Collipp s findings with a larger sample. 393 patients in the coronary care unit were assigned to two groups, one to receive daily prayer treatment from born again Christian intercessors along with normal treatment and one to receive the normal treatment alone. After ten months, twenty one of twenty six medical measures of health were better in the patients who received prayer treatments (Byrd 1988) including only three ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Launched in 2011, Uber is currently available to over sixty countries, including the Philippines. This transportation service has proved to be a convenient and innovative way of getting from point A to point B. Maintaining a 4.5 star rating on the Apple App Store and a 4 star rating Google Play Store, it is obvious that the public s reception of Uber is positive. As for myself, a college student who uses Uber on a daily basis, I can say that it is a user friendly and creative way of traveling around the city. Andrew said that GrabTaxi drivers can refuse to take a passenger which would only cause inconvenience, unlike Uber wherein the drivers cannot turn down a passenger. He also added that the vehicles for Uber needed to at least be the 2013 model or newer so that ensures comfort for both the driver and the passenger. Another advantage that Uber has over GrabTaxi, according to Andrew, is that the mode of payment is credit card and not cash. Because of this mode of payment, the drivers need not worry about giving change, nor do the passengers need to consider if the amount of money they are carrying is enough to pay for the trip. Andrew also added that Uber is safer than GrabTaxi for both the driver and the rider for they both learn a few details about each other before the ride starts, and at the end of a trip, the passenger and the driver rate each other through the app which serves as feedback which will be seen by the next driver/passenger. I expected the answers he gave since the reasons he enumerated are also the same reasons I use Uber instead of GrabTaxi. Basically, Uber is easier to use, safer, and more ... • 48. 7 Years War Salutary Neglect Essay The British defeat of the French following the French and Indian War (also known as the 7 Years War ) led to the end of salutary neglect in America. Salutary neglect was a period of time in which the British interfered very little in colonial affairs, and this lasted from the end of the 1600s up until the British victory over the French in the 7 Years War. The end of salutary neglect marked the beginning of Britain s increasing control over the American colonies and attempt in raising taxes to help pay for the war. The most well known legislatures they passed included the Proclamation Line of 1763, which restricted the colonists from expanding westward, and numerous acts taxing the colonies on commodities such as the Sugar Act, which taxed ... The most important aspects of American life that remained stagnant after the Revolution were the class structures and social classes present in the United States. If anything, the social classes in America became even more polarized as those who were part of the wealthy elite group rose to power while the poor shrank back in oppression. The new nation found itself possessed of enormous wealth so that it could create the richest ruling class in history. When Loyalist land was confiscated after the war, it was distributed among the Revolutionary leaders, so they could enrich themselves and their friends . • 49. Napoleon And The French Revolution With all the glory and the splendour that some countries may have experienced, never has history seen how only only one man, Napoleon, brought up his country France from its most tormented status, to the very pinnacle of its height in just a few years time. He was a military hero who won splendid land based battles, which allowed him to dominate most of the European continent. He was a man with ambition, great self control and calculation, a great strategist, a genius; whatever it was, he was simply the best. But, even though how great this person was, something about how he governed France still floats among people s minds. Did he abuse his power? Did Napoleon defeat the purpose of the ideals of the French Revolution? After all of his success in his military campaigns, did he gratify the people s needs regarding their ideals on the French Revolution? This is one of the many controversies that we have to deal with when studying Napoleon and the French Revolution. In this essay, I will discuss my opinion on whether or not was he a destroyer of the ideals of the French Revolution. Certain individuals approved of Napoleon s reign as the saviour of France. He finished and completed the Revolution by fulfilling the ideals the people of France demanded. A person such as one belonging to the bourgeoisie, or even a peasant would be very satisfied with the way Napoleon ruled over the country. He gave them equality, freedom, justice, and many rights. Such things never existed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
