Barrier Island Research Paper
Barrier Island is a low edge of sand that is parallel to the mainland with a distance of 2 to 19
miles off the shoreline, 300 barrier islands border the shore of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, to
Padre Island, Texas. The barrier island defends the coast from the full power of storm waves. In
the central of the barrier island and the mainland is a peaceful lagoon or a bay. Mainly most of
these barrier island are 0.6 3 miles wide and amid from 9 18 miles long. The highest structures
example of barrier island are sand dunes with the height of 16 33 feet; however, in some places
the dunes can reach the height of 100 feet. Few barrier islands are initiated as spits that were then

Alien Vs Predator Mr Obiese
Which project or projects stood out to you as particularly well done in your estimation? I
particularly enjoyed group 4 s wiki on Dragons primarily because of the diversity of works that
are featured in the wiki; specifically those featured in the film section which is composed of a
television show, animated films (which differ in both animation method and country of origin),
and live action films. I also enjoyed reading group 9 s wiki page about aliens specifically the
section about aliens in video game design. In this section of the wiki, Mr.Obiesie analyzes the
different alien races found in well known video games such as Halo 2, Mass Effect 2, and Xcom:
Enemy Unknown as well as some smaller underrated games such as Alien vs. Predator:... Show

Monsters are important to the understanding of humankind because a monster is just a
personification of the worst parts of humanity combined with the fear of something different.
One example of this is in group 8 s wiki about werewolves in which the werewolves from the
show The Vampire Diaries are described in great detail. In the show the werewolves have very
little control of their savage personality traits or actions while they are transformed this is an
example of cosmic nature which is one of the only traits that separates humans from savage
beasts. However, not all monsters are driven by cosmic nature. In fact, in group 10 s wiki the
chinese folktale of The Four Dragons is described and in the story the Dragons actually have a
sense of humanity because they feel bad for all of the townspeople s struggles; and that is what
truly makes us human our sense of morality. As civilized beings we all have a moral compass that
compels us to do right by others and to strive to be better

Universal Health Care System
Health care is one of the most important systems in this world. With insurance you are most
likely to receie health care and have a better health status. Uninsured people are less likely to
receive medical care and more likely to have poor health status. When you dont have insurance
you are most likely to pay a lot more money for health care but if you have insurance they are
most likely to cover the whole payment or most of the bill. A universal health care system would
bring costs down and increase access to care.
In 2005, 45 milion Americans lacked insurance which is over 15% of the population. America
needs to get a universal healthcare system because health care is a right that people deserve but
too few people have. The younger generations who are barely getting there first jobs, most of
them dont have insurance which isnt good because not all jobs have insurance benefits included
and people cant afford to get insurance, go to work, school and pay bills at there young age with
their first job. Massachussetts has the 14th lowest unemployment rate in the country Only
government can force order into the jungle of profitable waste and crazy cross subsidies most of
it piled on the backs of taxpayers and employers. America can t be modern without a system of
universal coverage that promotes wise use of health care resources (Harrop,2012). Healthcare costs

We can perhaps study the ways other countries have effectively implemented this system. For
example, Europe has a system in which all residents pay into a common fund that creates a pool of

needs to figure out a way to adopt this system that provides care to all citizens. 2 million people

The art under analysis is the Supper at Emmaus by Merisi Da Caravaggio. The painting is one of
the many Christian arts painted by Caravaggio during the Baroque art period. Due to the
significance of the every aspect of the painting, the paper is structured in a way that every part
deals with one aspect of the painting. The first part deals with the historical significance and the
interpretation of the painting. In the same part, the religious significance of the paintings is
explored. The second part involves the interpretation of the different techniques used by the artist

In the painting the supper at Emmaus, the figures are never brought into the daylight, but they
are placed in a dark brown atmosphere of the closed room. This is done by the use of a highlight

shadow, and this gives the painting a spectacular view as the light and dark is contrasted. This is a
technique that is referred to as the tenebrism technique common in other works by Caravaggio. The

Impact Of Immigrants On America
The word immigrant is defined as a person who comes to live permanently in a foreign country.
However, immigrants that have come to America are doing more than simply living. Immigrants
are thriving, innovating, and improving America. From useful inventions to groundbreaking shows
the country of America has immigrants to thank for many of its achievement. Without Immigrants,
America would not be the same country it is today. Immigrants are one piece in the huge puzzle that
makes up America, and without this piece America would not be complete. Immigrants have
positively impacted American Society through their work in the fields of entertainment, politics,
and technology. Lee Strasberg, an immigrant from the country of Ukraine, has immensely

Dental Implants Replace Teeth In A Day
Dental implants are the most realistic looking and healthiest way to replace your missing teeth.
They are the most stable option available because they are firmly connected to your jaw. They
also keep your jaw healthy because they act as replacement roots for your teeth. Dental implants
are a decision that will last for a lifetime, especially as Dr. Das is highly trained to place traditional
implants, All on 4 implants, Teethin a Day, and immediate implants. He performs all of these
procedures out of his comfortable office in Webster, TX!
What are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are small rods of titanium resembling a screw. They are inserted into your jaw and
attached to replacement teeth to create a strong and beautiful smile. When implants are inserted,
they immediately begin to merge with the bone in your jaw and act as the roots of your teeth,
which ensure that you don t fall victim to bone and gum tissue loss.

PEI S OTHER WORKS
One of his buildings that really captured my attention is the aforementioned Bank of China Tower
in Hong Kong. The structural expressionism adopted in the design of this building is supposed to
resemble growing bamboo shoots, symbolising livelihood and prosperity. The whole structure is
supported by the five steel columns at the corners of the building, with the triangular frameworks
transferring the weight of the building onto these five columns. It is covered with glass curtain
walls, and it s unique appearance means that it remains one of Hong Kong s most distinguishable
buildings. However, like the Louvre it has caused quite a large amount of controversy, as it is the
only major building in Hong Kong that bypassed the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although changes had been made it still kept to Paris traditional appearance and was installed
within the former Orsay railway station. Between 1900 through to 1939 it was known as the Gare
d Orsay and was seen as the head of the southwestern French railroad network. However, after
1939, the station was to serve only the suburbs, as its platforms had become too short for the
modern, longer trains that appeared with the progressive modernisation of the railroads.
In 1975, the Direction des MusГ©es de France had considered installing a new museum within the
train station, in which all of the arts from the second half of the 19th century would be displayed.
The station at this time was threatened with demolition and was to be replaced by a large scale
hotel complex, however due to the revival of interest in nineteenth century architecture it became
listed on the Supplementary Inventory of Historical Monuments on March 8, 1973. It wasn t until
October 1977 that the official decision to construct the MusГ©e d Orsay went ahead.
The building was then classified as a Historical Monument in 1978, and a civil commission was
created to oversee the construction of the museum. The modification of the original rail station
into a museum was accomplished by ACT architecture group, made up of M. Bardon, M. Colboc
and M. Philippon. Their scheme was chosen in 1979 out of six proposals, and would respect

Barack Obama s President Of The United States
A promise, including trust, is a statement that assures an individual it will be accomplished.
When a promise is made by a person and it is kept, they are seen as reliable or able to be counted

known for making promises during their campaign election to the public in order to win. For a
candidate to win, he or she assures the public they will do a particular thing or make a change if
they are elected. Many voters have trust issues because the candidate who wins the election often

Love Triangle In The Canterbury Tales
In the Canterbury Tale by Geoffrey Chaucer, born in circa 1340 October 25, 1400, London,
England.Chaucer expresses his beliefs of how should love be through the Knight s Tale and Miller
s Prologue since both presents a love triangle.Chaucer on the stories shows two types of love which
had similarities and differences between the characters and the events of both stories. Geoffrey
Chaucer, in the text Canterbury Tale describes the lovetriangle by different types of how should be
love, and I saw some similarities compared to now in how people see the love and how they show
love to others.
Chaucer maintain that the love triangle is represented by Duke Theseus and John the Carpenter by
being the elderly authority figure because they try to control Emily and Alison,Palamon and Arcite
by Knight s tale, Absolon, and Nicholas by the Miller s tale represent the suitors, they had love at
first sight. Chaucer s purpose for writing this text is to compare two characters that have almost the
same roles in the stories but with other names and becoming a different type of story. This text is
significant to our understanding of love triangle because each one compares how love should be
and these stories have some similarities with now.
Early in the story, Chaucer describes two differences in how should love be as Palamon leaps out
from his hiding place, calls Arcite a traitor, declares himself to be Arcite s mortal foe, and
challenges him to a duel by the knight s tale and Alison and Nicholas form a plan to spend the
night together by the Miller s tale.
What Chaucer is saying is that in the Knight s tale love is represented as a fight between two
people as a courtly love, this means that if you want have the love of a woman you need to fight
to have it, Palamon and Arcite spend dangerous years trying to be near Emilye, they both face off
with sword and shield to fight with hundreds of knights, but in this story Emilye don t choose
which one she wants, Theseus the authority control her and say that the winner would have her, this
story represents the perfect stereotype of perfect warrior and the perfect princess not showing any
personalities traits and in the Miller s tale the characters have specific traits and they

Social Acceptance In College Essay
College Fraternities and Sororities The High Cost of Social Acceptance College students who
choose to join fraternities or sororities do so because of their need for social acceptance. I am
personally against fraternities and sororities. I feel that it is money spent for the purpose of
buying friends. There are many ways to meet interesting people other than devoting all of your
time and money to a club in order to do so. Perhaps the people who join these groups have low
self esteem, social anxiety, or feel that the best way to make friends in college is to pay for them. I

enough time to devote themselves to a fraternity or sorority. What I found to be the most
interesting was that ten felt that the reason people join these organizations are just paying for
friendship. The only reason these non members agreed that it would be a beneficial to join a
fraternity or sorority would be for academic achievements, such as the Honors fraternity, or one
that pertained to your major. Twelve members of fraternities or sororities were also surveyed.
Eleven stated that they joined so they can meet new people and make friends. Only five agreed
that they joined so they could help the community. Eight of the ten felt they needed to join so
they would have a place to party and also meet girls. Three felt that being a member taught you
leadership skills. Two joined because they thought it would look good on a resume. My second
method of research was a personal interview. Here, I was able to ask more questions than on a
random survey in the Oak Grove. On the issue of students not having time to devote themselves to
one of the organizations, one non member commented, I know that as a student I am way too busy

Indonesia And Its Impact On Malaysia
Malaysia was nearly always in favor of close economic co operation among Southeast Asian
countries; however, this was impacted often by different nationalistic sentiments in Indonesia,
rarely ones coming from Malaysia. Although tensions and separation have increased, Malays are
much more likely to view Indonesians as a part of their nation than Indonesians are to view
Malaysians as part of their nation. There are likely a variety of reasons contributing to this. Most
importantly, Indonesia is a significantly larger country than Malaysia, with about 250 million
people, while Malaysia only has about 30 million people, of whom only approximately half are
ethnic Malays and 12% from other Bumiputera (native Malay) populations. Furthermore, while
Indonesia does have some non pribumi (native Indonesian) populations, such as the Chinese
Indonesians and Arab Indonesians, these numbers are significantly smaller than those in Malaysia,
where the Chinese population makes up over 22% of the country and the Indian population makes
up about 7%. There are also significantly more non citizens in Malaysia than there are in Indonesia,
contributing to more questions of identity.
There is already significant research on nationalism in Indonesia and Malaysia, as well as
But there is much less written on how the differing nationalistic policies of the countries impact

The tattoo policy has always been part of the Military, to keep a clean and professionalism

harder to find soldiers that are in the Military that do not have a tattoo, to some it is a way to show
what they have been through, a story that tells there life and time in the service or from

There are regulations for a reason, which can be understood. But the way the world is becoming
tattoo s, are being acceptable for almost any job. According to the regulations the placement of
tattoo s is going off of the wear of the summer PT uniform which is a short sleeve shirt, and
shorts, which is usually worn a few hours out of the day. The Army Combat Uniform (ACU) is
worn 90 percent of a soldier s time in the military, this has Long sleeves which cover your arms,
and pants which cover your neck. The new revisions should tailor to the uniform that is worn the
most. There has been word of AR 670 1, and DA PAM s 670 1 Policy being revised for soldiers that
may have tattoo s on their arms or legs so they can go warrant officer, or officer if they so choose.
This will not pertain to new soldiers enlisted or officer candidates that joined after the revision of
the policy.
Personal Affect of new Tattoo Policy The tattoo Policy has always been a part of the Military. It has
changed a few times in accordance with AR 670 1, and DA PAM 670 1. At times of need for the
Army they have allowed waivers so soldiers that do not meet the standards can join the Army in

The Negative Impacts Of Food Inseecurity
Introduction
Millions of people every day do not know when they are going to eat their next meal. This brings
upon great stress to households as finding their next meal becomes the priority. The United States
defines this shortage of food in households as food insecurity. The U.S. Department of Agriculture
(USDA) has defined food insecurity as a lack of consistent access to enough food for an active,
healthy life (Coleman Jensen, Rabbitt, Gregory, Singh, 2017). Households that are food insecure
will often skip meals, eat low nutritious dense food, and face high stress levels of making food
last until they are able to buy more food for their home. Food insecurity is a serious issue that is
consistently overlooked and it needs more attention because it has a negative impact on the families.
Literature Review Food insecurity affects every community in the United States. About 12.3% of
U.S. households were considered food insecure in 2016 (United States Department of Agriculture
2017). This number has not changed much from the 12.7% it was in 2015. Food insecurity can
affect anyone, but certain groups are more vulnerable to this issue. For instance, low income
households, the elderly, children, and immigrants are at highest risk to be food insecure. In
particular, it is households with children that are most affected by food insecurity. The rate for these
households was higher than the national average at 16.5% for the year 2016 (United States

Current diagnostic criteria for SaraBeth s disorders is better explained by criterion A D in
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and criterion A E in Anxiety Disorder due to another
medical condition. OCD criteria A requires that the individual have the presence of obsession and

coming to her parents and although she had attempted to ignore these thoughts she continues with
performing her compulsions. SaraBeth s compulsions are evident by reported repetitive behaviors
of performing ritual prayers, persistent checking on the iron and stove and although SaraBeth can
admit that her fear is unrealistic, she continues the compulsions in order to feel better or to relieve
oneself. Criteria B requires that the obsessions and/or compulsions be time consuming (more than
one hour) or cause clinically significant distress or impairments in important areas of function.
SaraBeth has stated that can spend three to four hours during the day engaged in checking
behaviors. Criteria C entails that the obsessions compulsive symptoms are not attributable to the

Fast Track Network Protocol Is Unique
As already discussed, this Fast Track network protocol is unique. This has become the point of
curiosity for individuals and firms to try and halt the Fast Track protocol.
Thus the majority would be the giFT project. With reference to Bergner, the preliminary indication
of giFT was the regularly used interface to FastTrack. This giFT almost reached the point to break
the FastTrack protocol. Therefore, FastTrack responded by customizing their encryption technique
making it more complex.
Since the FastTrack protocol became more complex, the giFT changed to enhance a system that can
accumulate many assorted heterogeneous networks and even then, acted as an entity which can
share files.
From then on, it was transformed to giFT Internet File Transport. This transformation triggered the
development of a brand new and improvised network protocol very similar to FastTrack. That is
known as OpenFT.
6.1The OpenFT Architecture
OpenFT protocol divides the peers in its domain into different roles but instead of 2 tier
architecture, it has added an extra tier building 3 tier control architecture as demonstrated in the
figure.
Peers are divided into different categories based on few factors. They are network access
performance, processing speed, usage of its memory as well as accessibility.
The first tier is made up of numerous traditional machines which are also called as User peers.
Every peer in this tier has connections to big group of search peers. The user peers later on might

American Football Vs Rugby Research Paper
Rugby versus American Football: Same Origin, Very Different Game
The roots of American football can be found in early versions of rugby. In the mid nineteenth
century, in Britain, both games have their origin in varieties of football played, in which a
football is kicked at a goal or kicked over a line. In the modern version of rugby and American
football, a team of players is required to carry an elliptical ball over the goal line to score points. In
American football, the rules are regulated by the National Football League. In rugby, it is regulated
by the World Rugby Council.
Despite the similar aim of these sports, there are remarkable differences in how the ball is moved
to the goal and points are scored. American football consists of a game played between two teams
that has eleven players in the field in each team. This is a game of intense physical play to
advance the ball to the opponent s end zone and requires a calculated strategy. Tackling other
players is key in both sports and the physically of American football is arguably heavier thanks to
the amount of protective equipment worn.
Rugby is best described as a blend of the running of soccer and the contact of American football.
Rugby players play with minimal to no protective gear while making many more tackles than their

possession of the ball; the defense, players who line up to stop the other team s offence; and
special teams that only come in on kicking situations (punts, field goals, and kickoffs). (NFL, n.d.)

Promoting A Drug Awareness Program For Teens
Promoting a Drug Awareness Program for Teens
Teen drug use/abuse is common. According to the U. S. Department of Health Human Services, the
most common drugs teens use are alcohol, marijuana, tobacco, and prescription drugs (2016). Other
drugs used are inhalants, over the counter medications, and other illegal drugs such as cocaine,
methamphetamine, and heroin. The use of drugs and alcohol increase the risk of injury or death.
According to WebMD, alcohol and drug abuse is a leading cause of teen death or injury related to
car crashes, suicides, violence, and drowning (2014). A drugis anything that can alter the mind or
body.
Why do Teens Use or Abuse Drugs?
There are many reasons why a teen or young adult chose to use drugs and alcohol. Many teens do
not have family support or someone to teach them of the dangers of drug use/abuse. Some users
do it just to get a temporary high while others may have others reasons for doing drugs and
alcohol. According to Drug Prevention 4Teens, the most common reasons for doing or tying
drugs is to be accepted by their peers, to alleviate the pressures of school, to be more grown up,
and curiosity and lack of knowledge associated with drug use (2008). Adolescents want to fit in
with their peers, and often, the way to fit in is to use alcohol or drugs. Other teens have issues
with keeping up the demands set for middle school and high school students and may turn to drugs
or alcohol as a way to deal with the additional

Overview Of Drunk Driving
Every day people put their lives in danger when they get behind the wheel, sober or not. Most
people probably think that a majority of car accidents were caused from drunk driving, but there
are also numerous other reasons. The tiniest of distractions can make a ginormous change in
someone s life. Texting, along with drinking, are among the most dangerous problems of driving.
In 2015 alone, 3,477 people were killed, and 391,000 were injured in motor vehicle crashes
involving distracted drivers ( Distracted ). When looking at statistics, approximately 660,000
drivers are using their cell phones ( Distracted ). The potential to be in an accident caused by

Robert Cohn Quotes
Ernest Hemingway was born in 1899 and The Sun Also Rises was originally published in 1926.
During this time period, post war Europe was especially hesitant toward immigrant populations
and the dislike of Jews was common around the world. Hemingway used real life experiences and
people as inspiration for characters, setting and plot in the novel and supposedly created the main
character, Jake Barnes, as himself. In the Sun Also Rises, the anti semitic attitudes expressed
toward Robert Cohn reflect Hemingway s personal anti semitic beliefs, which were a product of
his time. Many aspects of Robert Cohn s character are stereotypical. One trait often found in
stereotypical Jewish characters is their fascination with money. Hemingway makes remarks
throughout the novel to imply that Cohn is always concerned with getting his money s worth, and
is only interested in arguments or sporting events if there s money involved. Cohn sent a telegram
to Jake and Bill during their fishing trip saying VENGO JUEVES COHN. Jake replies: What a
lousy telegram!... He could send ten words for the same price (Hemingway 119), implying that
Cohn was overly concerned with money. The classic Jewish... Show more content on

Since the story is set in the same general time it was written, the 1920s, it is possible that the anti
semitism in the novel purely reflected the time period s general hesitation toward immigrant
populations, and was only present in the characters minds, not Hemingway s. The idea of Jews
might be a fictional construct, created by the anti semitism of Jake and his crowd, attached to
actual Jews; Jews are made into the people whom the lost characters of The Sun Also Rises can
feel superior. And Robert Cohn is their embodiment and representative in the book (Heims

Use Of Disruption Of Performance On Roles Involving...
Focus has been thought to be attained automatically from stimuli with negative valence, allowing
quick recognition of possible threats (Itkes Mashal, 2015). The concept of disruption of
performance on roles involving negative words has been heavily researched (Itkes Mashal, 2015),
whereas minimal research has been conducted on the timing of semantic processing where negative
valence applies its influence on performance.
To view the influence of negative valence on performance, the emotional Stroop task has been
utilised (Itkes Mashal, 2015). The Stroop task involves participants naming colours of words whilst
disregarding their background. The words used generally bear negative or neutral valence, and
results propose that reaction times are slower to negative words in comparison to neutral words.
(Itkes Mashal, 2015) suggest that achievements on this role show a basic deceleration resulting
from dangerous stimuli.
In reference to the Automatic Vigilance Hypothesis, surrounding stimuli are involuntarily viewed
as negative or positive (Itkes Mashal, 2015). This rapid reaction occurs due to the allowance for
avoidance or approach behaviour. Negative data is prioritised when studies drew attention to
factors of behaviour and brain activity. This allows for the cognition system to be prepared for any
possible harm, that could disrupt present processing of information (Itkes Mashal, 2015).
Therefore, valence is agreed to be processed early. The question still

The Role Of Faith In The Screwtape Letters By C. S. Lewis
In the novel The Screwtape Letters, C. S. Lewis depicts how Christians have strong reason and
faith. These letters are used to contradict the bible as if god is satin and satin is god. Within the
letters, the patient is supposed to be a Christian man that is being used in an experiment for the
dark side. However, the patient resisted the temptations that the devil threw at him, and is able to
beat the devil by having faith. This is a strong point that the narrator illustrates, because Screwtape
is considered like a devil who is trying to influence his incompetent nephew, Wormwood.

It allows the patient to imagine that he is not being gluttonous for example only accepting small
amounts of food, he becomes sensual. This sin is cleverly masked by the small portions of food
that are involved. In addition, when the patient says, for example, All I want is a cup of tea... and
the teeniest bit of really crispy toast, the sin of greed is horrible and most of the time unnoticeable
when committed, because it is used to obtain exactly what one wants at any means necessary
(Screwtape 88). Also, being picky is a way of hassling to others as it asks them to go out of their
way in order to make something perfect. Moreover, it could jeopardize friendships because
perfection can never be attained, and the disappointment of not getting their way could result in ill
tempers toward others. Furthermore, while gluttony of delicacy may be different than the sin of
gluttony, of excess, it produces querulousness, impatience, uncharitableness, and self concern,
counteracting the attempt to avoid sin in the first place (Screwtape ch17). Screwtape shows

Heidegger s Relationship Between Poetry And Poetry
In the words of Heidegger, the poem is a vortex that snatches us away not gradually, but suddenly,
and thus we are drawn into a conversation. Understanding of poetry is essential to Heidegger s
philosophy. There are two notions, which seem to stand at opposite poles, which are poetry and
technology. They seem to be opposed forms of truth. In modern civilization, we see the world
through our technology, but there was a time when the truth was seen through poetry.
Holderlin (1770 1843) a symbol of the German Romantic Movement had a great impact on
Heidegger s poetic thinking. In his various treatises, Heidegger clarifies his intent in studying
thought through poetry and to enter into the truth of the poems studied. Heidegger believed that

drawn to relate to Canadian media. Different theories have been developed around the capitalistic

The corporations have the capacity to censor or alter important issues that go against their
political or ideological positions in the news and in other media outlets. Media can affect and
shape public views on numerous issues by leading them in a way that fits in with the views of
the organization. Since the media companies have consolidated individuals are less exposed to
outside views or particular viewpoints to issues. The current issue can fit within the realm of
propaganda, people watch and read what is available and intensely promoted (Chomsky Herman,
2002). If powerful corporations merge with others they are able to send out their own message
and as frequently as they would like. In the news, broadcasters can exaggerate what their own
points of views are on certain subjects to make individuals alter their own beliefs, as a result
(Chomsky Herman, 2002). However, we can also argue that with current technologies individuals
can go beyond the news to get their information by using the web for example. With the current
technologies, individuals can also verify is statements made by the media contain some truth.
What would be interesting to look at would be the racial and gender composition of media
corporations and its effect on the diversity of media. Furthermore, the analysis of media
consolidation proves to be beneficial in the eyes of capitalism.

Gary Soto was born in Fresno, California, in April, 1952, to working class Mexican American

Corporate Governance And Corporate Disclosure Essay
Corporate Governance
The primary emphases of the SOX are to enhance the quality and transparency of corporate
disclosure and force changes in the auditing of publicly traded companies. The first thing that SOX
has an improvement is on the responsibility of company s financial reports and disclosure which is
connected with the section 302. The act requires the manager to certify the accuracy of the financial
statement personally. If the chief executive CEO, chief financial officer CFO or other top manager
knowing or willfully makes a false certification, he would be face 10 or 20 years in the prison.
Also, if the company had the accounting restatement due to the manager s misconduct, he still has
to give up the bonuses or profits made from selling the company s stock.
Another major change is on the auditor side. The SOX gets a increase in the audit committee s
independence form the company and its responsibility regarding the company s auditors. The audit
committee receives large and wide leverage in the overseeing the company s chief executive CEO,
chief financial officer CFO or other top managers accounting decision. Also, the audit committee
member must be independent from the top management and have the responsibility like approving
many audit and non audit services.
What s more, the control is required for the public companies. the section 404 ask the company to
perform the extensive internal control tests. Which include an internal control report of annual
audits.

Analysis Of The Book The Hobbit Essay
Novel Paper: The Hobbit When you think of a hero, is the first character to pop in your head a
little hobbit named Bilbo Baggins? In most cases, people think of Superman or Hercules, but in
The Hobbit, an unexpected hero emerges and changes the name for all heroes to come. The Hobbit
is a novel about Bilbo Bagginsand his journey, with thirteen dwarves and a wizard, seeking the
treasure stolen by the dragon, Smaug. While on this unexpected journey, Bilbo and his companions
overcome many obstacles to eventually get to the treasure and retrieve it. Throughout the story,
Bilbo develops into a courageous man, who indeed, is a hero. Richard Tyre wrote an article, You
Can t Teach Tolkien, and he explains his theory in which he connects multiple story s plot with six
elements. The Hobbit, is assuredly a prime example of Tyre s theory because it follows all six
steps throughout the story simultaneously. The six elements are; (1) those who hunt for treasure,
(2) must go alone, (3) at night, (4) and when they find it, (5) they must leave some of their blood
behind, (6) and the treasure is never what they expected (Tyre 19). These elements are steps in
which a character must take to emerge into a hero in the end. Bilbo Baggins is the hero in The
Hobbit, but he doesn t start off as the hero. He has always had heroic traits but throughout the
novel, he pursues those six steps and in the resolution, he is transformed into an actual hero. The
first element in Tyre s theory is (1)

The Moments That Changed My Life
In life we often experience moments that change who we are and how we come to be. These

helped us to learn the tone of language that is to be used. When counseling a patient, one should
always be calm and always be positive about what the patient is feeling and thinking.
It is also in this unit of general psychology that we have learned how very different people behave
in the different ways. This is where the course has taught me why different people behave as they
do and why they end up drinking. Stress is one factor that makes people end up becoming alcoholic
or turning into drugs. Additionally, drug abuse and alcoholismhave also been known to be
hereditary from the recent research studies that have been done by the different scholars. It is
through this course that we have learned the very many reasons as to why people behave in
different ways and why they take drugs or alcohol.
I have learned the different forms of therapy that are used in counseling in this course. This is
where the introduction to therapy is done. One way of helping a drug or an alcohol addict to stop

Luther, By Martin Luther
Martin Luther, born in 1483, grew up in a devout Roman Catholic household, where the church
stood at the center of his world. However, he suffered at the hand of his parents harsh criticism.
His father had emerged from the feudal system into the new middle class as a successful
Coppersmith. His desire was for his son to also climb the social ladder. To assist with his son s
success, Luther s father was a fierce judge of the character of his son, and often punished him
severely for his failures. From these experiences, Luther developed a low self esteem and fear of
failure, which encroached on every aspect of his life, including his theology. Luther s father sent
him to the best schools in the area with the intention of his son becoming a lawyer. Luther
successfully obtained a bachelor s degree, followed by his master s degree. However, Luther did
not become a lawyer. At the age of 22, in the year 1505, Luther was a few weeks into his law
school career. He was walking back to college from a brief visit home when he was caught in a
violent thunderstorm. A lightning bolt struck near him, and Luther, fearing for his life, prayed to
Saint Anne, a patroness for those in mortal peril and protector from thunderstorms, for intercession.
He promised that if he survived the thunderstorm, he would become a monk. Luther survived the
storm and kept to his word. Two weeks after the storm, Luther joined a monastery, hoping to find
assurance of God s favor in his new home. Luther, along

Fight Club, Hypermasculinity and Misogyny Essay
You are not your bank account. You are not the clothes you wear. You are not the contents of your
wallet. You are not your bowel cancer. You are not your Grande latte. You are not the car you
drive. You are not your fucking khakis Tyler Durden, Fight Club
In 1996, Chuck Palahniuk published his first novel, Fight Club. On the surface it can is seen as a
backlash to the feminization of men, and a celebration of violence for violence sake. But what is it
really about? Fight Club is a protest against not the feminization of the western male, but against
men themselves. (Audio track three on the special edition DVD featuring author Chuck Palahniuk
and screenwriter Jim Uhls is fantastic and can help the reader understand the motivations of ... Show

The violence that he creates with fight club is libertarian in a sense that it is out of the way,
between two consenting adults, but also a throwback to ritual combat. One man runs as a `chief
figure who announces and enforces the rules fight club. During one scene, Jack takes note of this
and compares the chanting of the crowd to a Pentecostal service, the crowd speaking in tongues.
With the condemnation of many of society s more violent activities, i.e., boxing, action films, et
cetera, fight club s slippery slope argument that men want violence in their lives seems to make
sense. Something IS missing in our lives, something that has always been there but is disappearing
as the decline of western civilization continues. Tyler addresses this problem on the public bus,
pointing out a Calvin Klein ad and asking if that is what a man is. Should we buy what Madison
Avenue tells us what to be?
For thousands of years man has been the provider of families, the soldier, the knight, and the hero
that saved the princess, the intrepid explorer. Fight Club argues that men should return to that state,
but the blame is not placed on women, indiviuals, society or even a government. The blame for the
emasculation of the male is placed on capitalism.
Fight Club evolves (or, it could be argued, devolves) into Project Mayhem. The project aims not to
harm anyone just things, corporate art, entities, and

The Tea Of A Tea Party
Tea Parties
In its simplest form, a Tea Party is defined as a social gathering in the afternoon at which tea,
cakes and other light refreshments are served. Dating back into the 1700 s, tea etiquette and its
popularity can be traced back to Charles II and his wife, Catherine of Braganza. Born of
Portuguese descent, Catherine already know of and was fond of tea, as it was a preferred beverage
of Portugal (Afternoon.com). Becoming known as the tea drinking Queen she is regarded as the
first of England s queens to participate in this tradition. However, Tea Parties made their scene
when Queen Anna began to hold afternoon tea while eating light refreshments in her chambers, as
well as inviting her friends to attend her tea time with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With tea party businesses and various tea gardens around the world, the culture and practice of
tea parties will continue to flourish. As previously stated, tea parties didn t come into full trendy
fashion until the 18th Century. Catherine brought tea to light while Queen Anna brought it into
a trend with her first afternoon tea . Queen Anna started drinking tea and eating light
refreshments when she became hungry in the afternoons, or the sinking feeling she d feel, since
it was typical to eat only breakfast and dinner at that time in Britain (tevana.com). Tea was
generally consumed within a lady s closet or bedchamber and was predominately a female only
gathering. The tea itself and the delicate pieces of porcelain for brewing and drinking it were
displayed in the closet, and inventories for wealthy households during the 17th and 18th
centuries list tea equipage not in kitchens or dining rooms but in these small private closets or
boudoirs ( A Social History of Tea by Jane Pettigrew, out of print). The trend of taking of tea didn
t stop there various countries around the world practiced taking of the tea, whether it be for
ceremonial reasons, celebrations, pleasure and leisure, or traditional tea party set up. China drank
tea for years before England as a ritual offering, for ceremonies, and medicine (http:/

Ethical Principles In First, Do No Harm By Lisa Belkin
In the world of medicine, ethical principles serve as guidelines that help agents determine what the
best thing to do is. According to Ruth Purtilo, an agent in the health profession is one who has the
moral capacity to make a decision and be held responsible for their choices. In the novel, First, Do
No Harm by Lisa Belkin, one can identify numerous agents and analyze the ethical principles they
naturally used to assist in their decision making. Serving as moral agents in Hermann Hospital, their
decisions were certainly not simple. At times, they chose between a patient s life and death. The
large ethicscommittee of the hospital met on several occasions throughout the novel, discussing
what was ethically right to do for their patients;... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a prominent principle throughout the book, as patients typically appreciate having a say
in their own fate. A patient s control of their care varies from case to case, but the agents in the
novel did their best to respect the patient s decisions. One of the most focused on patients of the
novel was Patrick. Patrick is a 15 year old boy with Hirschsprung s disease. This is a chronic
condition which causes a patient to be born without intestinal cells that help digest foods. He must
be fed through a nutritional drip and has been in and out of the hospital his entire life. Patrick s
primary physician is Javier Aceves, who has known Patrick for a long time but has only been
Patrick s physician for a few months. Despite Patrick s cocky attitude and immature tendencies,
Javier cares deeply about this patient. He feels that the loss of Patrick would be his own failure,
so he typically stops at nothing to keep Patrick alive. However, Patrick is in the dying stages of
his life, though he refuses to talk about it. As Patrick s condition worsens throughout the novel,
Javier is repeatedly faced with making one of two decisions. He can either have a new IV line
installed (which constantly

Gabriel Conroy Paralysis
The story starts off enlightening the reader where the paralysis had begun, by explaining the
Morkan s grandfather and the circling around the King William statue allows the reader to
understand the importance to why the repetitiveness began, the symbol paralysis probably
caused the defeated battle of the Irish to remain. The story shows paralysis at the party that is
given by the Morkan s every year their repetitiveness that is demonstrated by the same people
and their duties. How the people are going to act and Gabriel s speech that is expected, the
paralysis could also represent the dead, too paralyze to change. Since the snow is representing
the living and the dead Gabriel Conroy worries about what people think of him and it affects
him, causing him to have trouble living. Like Gabriel there are other s who are also afraid of
living. I add Michael Furey because he is an important mention in the story because of the type
of life he lived a man who looked back at his life and was filled with it, not a waste when he died. I
think the snow made it difficult to see through the people who are really living and who are
walking in a vegetative mind... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, the snow representation was important because it seem to be universal; it brings the dead
and living parallel with each other. The snow covered Ireland entirely; the snow was covering
the people of Ireland the ones who were living and who were dead in spirit, with life. I believe the
snow falling over all Ireland and the universe as a metaphor. Since snow represent death I think the
snow falling over all Ireland means death has fallen on the people of Ireland because they are not
living they are repetitive in everything they do afraid to shine they have been placde in a paralysis

Professional Salon Concepts

Abstract
Steve Cowan is the owner of a distribution company of salon hair products. The company,
Professional Salon Concepts, (PSC) was growing and decided to upgrade their AIS to support the
demands of the company. Steve hired Mike, his brother in law to assist him and the two of them
began to research the different products available believing they could better determine the needs of
the company than a consultant could. After a short time they bought first one and then changing
their minds and bought a second system. After a short training period the new system was installed
with some very problematic first few days. Eventually the system was up ... Show more content on

Missing Features
How could PSC have avoided the problem of the missing features? If PSC had gotten RFPs the
problem of missing features in the system they chose would have been eliminated during the
vendor selection process. However, in the route they did take those features that were important to
Steve but were not included in the AIS could have been included by having a systems requirements
list and a written contract with the specifications explicitly written out.
Conversion and Reporting
How could PSC have avoided some of the conversion and reporting problems it faced? As I stated
before, more time was needed in the testing and training portion of the conversion before the new
AIS went online. One trick I learned from our own system change at the city I work in is to train
a few operators on the new systems during the testing phase and then have them train a few more
in their own departments. By using your own employees to train each other they are gaining a
better understanding of how the system works. This way on the day of the change you have more
people who understand the system and how to fix or correct the things that can go wrong. The
more people you can have trained this way before the system change the better off you will be at
the critical moment.

The Importance Of Spirituality In Antigone
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. The name of this prayer
is the Sign of The Cross and as according to the Catholic Answers Website, is one of the common
and fundamental Catholic prayers. It derives from the Bible (Matthew 28:19) where it states,
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the
Son and of the Holy Spirit... The prayeritself was one of the very first ones that I learned as I child.
Although I did not know it at the time, I was praying for the Holy Spirit to show my spirituality
without realizing it. As a young adult I now know and understand that by praying that simple
prayer, I am also showing my spirituality. Coming to that conclusion, however, has taken me on a
spiritual journey in which I am still discovering new things every day. Spirituality is being
concerned with one s religious values rather than only the quality of being concerned with the
human spirit or soul as opposed to material or physical things. In Antigone, one of Sophocles
plays, Antigone, the main character, is proof of that spirituality is being concerned with one s
religious values rather than only the quality of being concerned with the human spirit or soul as
opposed to material or physical things. After Polynices and Eteocles, Antigone s brothers, fight till
death over the throne of the city of Thebes, the Greek City in which the play takes play, only
Eteocles is given proper burial by the

Comparing Story Of An Hour And Gail Goldwin s A Sorrowful...
Kate Chopin s, author of The story of an Hour, and Gail Goldwin, author of A sorrowful Women
use unique diction to to describe their main characters. In the Story of an Hour Kate describes a
woman with a heart condition. She is faced with the horrible news of her husband, that might be
dying. I like how Chopin s uses many descriptive words to explain the state Louise is in. As well
as Goldwin uses symbols and metaphors in her writing to intrigue us to keep on reading. Both the
writers have different ways of writing but use similar techniques to portray a message.
Kate uses many descriptive adjectives to describe a scene or character in the story. Many writers
use adjectives but Kate came up with bizarre but fascinating ones at the same time. My favorite
line of the story is There stood, facing the open window, a comfortable, roomy armchair. Into this
she sank, pressed down by a physical exhaustion that haunted her body and seemed to reach into
her soul. This sentence describes when Mrs. Mallard here s the news about her husband and locks
herself in her room. Chopin s grasped my attention instantly by the diction she chose to write her
short story. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A scene that I think is very meaningful is when Kate describes Mrs. Mallard in at her window.
For example, She could see in the open square before her house the tops of trees that were all
aquiver with the new spring life. The delicious breath of rain was in the air. In the street below a
peddler was crying his wares. The notes of a distant song which someone was singing reached her
faintly, and countless sparrows were twittering in the eaves. I feel like this quote describes that she
is now free to live without her husband. It symbolizes freedom that she has been wanting as you
can tell later on in the

Hamlet Foils In Hamlet
The foils of Hamlet
In Hamlet, the main character tries to get revenge on his father s death by plotting the murder of
Claudius, but it is his indecisiveness that leads to many problems. He is supported or opposed by
characters who are considered foils to him. A foil is when a main character is compared to another
character to better reveal the characteristics of the main character, as well as his intentions and
motivations. There are many characters who can be considered foils to Hamlet. However, the
characters that truly stand as foils to the protagonist are Laertes, Fortinbras, and Claudius.
Hamlet and his foils are all put in a similar situation, but it is how they react and deal with their
issues that makes them distinct from Hamlet. To begin with, Laertes is the most similar foil to
Hamlet when it comes to circumstance and rage. They both want revenge for their father s
death, though their method of revenge are different. Laertes is a man of action and wants to get
revenge right away after learning that his father Polonius has been killed. In contrast to Laertes,
Hamlet does not even make public knowledge of his father s murder. Laertes doesn t
procrastinate his attempt at revenge like Hamlet. However, he is very shallow and Hamlet is a
genius in comparison. Hamlet thinks of ways to plan his revenge against Claudius, though it is
his tendency to overthink that leads him to his tragic flaw. He himself realizes that Laertes is
put in a similar position to himself. I ll be your foil, Laertes: in mine ignorance your skill shall,
like a star i the darkest night, Stick fiery off indeed (V.ii.5 7). Rage is another emotion the
characters have in common. When Laertes learns of his father s death, he gets enraged and
wants to get revenge instantly. To hell, allegiance! Vows, to the blackest devil! Conscience and
grace, to the profoundest pit! I dare damnation: to this point I stand, that both worlds I give to
negligence, let come what comes; only I ll be revenged most thoroughly for my father. (Act 4
Scene 5 lines 128 134). Laertes says to Claudius that he will honor his father when he says that he
was in deed his father s son more than in words and that he will kill Hamlet. To cut his throat i

  • 3. Alien Vs Predator Mr Obiese Which project or projects stood out to you as particularly well done in your estimation? I particularly enjoyed group 4 s wiki on Dragons primarily because of the diversity of works that are featured in the wiki; specifically those featured in the film section which is composed of a television show, animated films (which differ in both animation method and country of origin), and live action films. I also enjoyed reading group 9 s wiki page about aliens specifically the section about aliens in video game design. In this section of the wiki, Mr.Obiesie analyzes the different alien races found in well known video games such as Halo 2, Mass Effect 2, and Xcom: Enemy Unknown as well as some smaller underrated games such as Alien vs. Predator:... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Monsters are important to the understanding of humankind because a monster is just a personification of the worst parts of humanity combined with the fear of something different. One example of this is in group 8 s wiki about werewolves in which the werewolves from the show The Vampire Diaries are described in great detail. In the show the werewolves have very little control of their savage personality traits or actions while they are transformed this is an example of cosmic nature which is one of the only traits that separates humans from savage beasts. However, not all monsters are driven by cosmic nature. In fact, in group 10 s wiki the chinese folktale of The Four Dragons is described and in the story the Dragons actually have a sense of humanity because they feel bad for all of the townspeople s struggles; and that is what truly makes us human our sense of morality. As civilized beings we all have a moral compass that compels us to do right by others and to strive to be better ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Universal Health Care System Health care is one of the most important systems in this world. With insurance you are most likely to receie health care and have a better health status. Uninsured people are less likely to receive medical care and more likely to have poor health status. When you dont have insurance you are most likely to pay a lot more money for health care but if you have insurance they are most likely to cover the whole payment or most of the bill. A universal health care system would bring costs down and increase access to care. In 2005, 45 milion Americans lacked insurance which is over 15% of the population. America needs to get a universal healthcare system because health care is a right that people deserve but too few people have. The younger generations who are barely getting there first jobs, most of them dont have insurance which isnt good because not all jobs have insurance benefits included and people cant afford to get insurance, go to work, school and pay bills at there young age with their first job. Massachussetts has the 14th lowest unemployment rate in the country Only government can force order into the jungle of profitable waste and crazy cross subsidies most of it piled on the backs of taxpayers and employers. America can t be modern without a system of universal coverage that promotes wise use of health care resources (Harrop,2012). Healthcare costs are rising faster than inflation, salary increases cant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We can perhaps study the ways other countries have effectively implemented this system. For example, Europe has a system in which all residents pay into a common fund that creates a pool of money and provides benefits to all . In the painting the supper at Emmaus, the figures are never brought into the daylight, but they are placed in a dark brown atmosphere of the closed room. The structural expressionism adopted in the design of this building is supposed to resemble growing bamboo shoots, symbolising livelihood and prosperity. The whole structure is supported by the five steel columns at the corners of the building, with the triangular frameworks transferring the weight of the building onto these five columns. It is covered with glass curtain walls, and it s unique appearance means that it remains one of Hong Kong s most distinguishable buildings. Although changes had been made it still kept to Paris traditional appearance and was installed within the former Orsay railway station. Between 1900 through to 1939 it was known as the Gare d Orsay and was seen as the head of the southwestern French railroad network. However, after 1939, the station was to serve only the suburbs, as its platforms had become too short for the modern, longer trains that appeared with the progressive modernisation of the railroads. In 1975, the Direction des MusГ©es de France had considered installing a new museum within the train station, in which all of the arts from the second half of the 19th century would be displayed. The station at this time was threatened with demolition and was to be replaced by a large scale hotel complex, however due to the revival of interest in nineteenth century architecture it became listed on the Supplementary Inventory of Historical Monuments on March 8, 1973. It wasn t until October 1977 that the official decision to construct the MusГ©e d Orsay went ahead. The building was then classified as a Historical Monument in 1978, and a civil commission was created to oversee the construction of the museum. The modification of the original rail station into a museum was accomplished by ACT architecture group, made up of M. Bardon, M. Colboc and M. Philippon. Candidates are known for making promises during their campaign election to the public in order to win. For a candidate to win, he or she assures the public they will do a particular thing or make a change if they are elected. Love Triangle In The Canterbury Tales In the Canterbury Tale by Geoffrey Chaucer, born in circa 1340 October 25, 1400, London, England.Chaucer expresses his beliefs of how should love be through the Knight s Tale and Miller s Prologue since both presents a love triangle.Chaucer on the stories shows two types of love which had similarities and differences between the characters and the events of both stories. Geoffrey Chaucer, in the text Canterbury Tale describes the lovetriangle by different types of how should be love, and I saw some similarities compared to now in how people see the love and how they show love to others. Chaucer maintain that the love triangle is represented by Duke Theseus and John the Carpenter by being the elderly authority figure because they try to control Emily and Alison,Palamon and Arcite by Knight s tale, Absolon, and Nicholas by the Miller s tale represent the suitors, they had love at first sight. Chaucer s purpose for writing this text is to compare two characters that have almost the same roles in the stories but with other names and becoming a different type of story. This text is significant to our understanding of love triangle because each one compares how love should be and these stories have some similarities with now. Early in the story, Chaucer describes two differences in how should love be as Palamon leaps out from his hiding place, calls Arcite a traitor, declares himself to be Arcite s mortal foe, and challenges him to a duel by the knight s tale and Alison and Nicholas form a plan to spend the night together by the Miller s tale. What Chaucer is saying is that in the Knight s tale love is represented as a fight between two people as a courtly love, this means that if you want have the love of a woman you need to fight to have it, Palamon and Arcite spend dangerous years trying to be near Emilye, they both face off with sword and shield to fight with hundreds of knights, but in this story Emilye don t choose which one she wants, Theseus the authority control her and say that the winner would have her, this story represents the perfect stereotype of perfect warrior and the perfect princess not showing any personalities traits and in the Miller s tale the characters have specific traits and they ... Social Acceptance In College Essay College Fraternities and Sororities The High Cost of Social Acceptance College students who choose to join fraternities or sororities do so because of their need for social acceptance. I am personally against fraternities and sororities. I feel that it is money spent for the purpose of buying friends. There are many ways to meet interesting people other than devoting all of your time and money to a club in order to do so. Perhaps the people who join these groups have low self esteem, social anxiety, or feel that the best way to make friends in college is to pay for them. Indonesia And Its Impact On Malaysia Malaysia was nearly always in favor of close economic co operation among Southeast Asian countries; however, this was impacted often by different nationalistic sentiments in Indonesia, rarely ones coming from Malaysia. Although tensions and separation have increased, Malays are much more likely to view Indonesians as a part of their nation than Indonesians are to view Malaysians as part of their nation. There are likely a variety of reasons contributing to this. Most importantly, Indonesia is a significantly larger country than Malaysia, with about 250 million people, while Malaysia only has about 30 million people, of whom only approximately half are ethnic Malays and 12% from other Bumiputera (native Malay) populations. Furthermore, while Indonesia does have some non pribumi (native Indonesian) populations, such as the Chinese Indonesians and Arab Indonesians, these numbers are significantly smaller than those in Malaysia, where the Chinese population makes up over 22% of the country and the Indian population makes up about 7%. There are also significantly more non citizens in Malaysia than there are in Indonesia, contributing to more questions of identity. • 14. The Negative Impacts Of Food Inseecurity Introduction Millions of people every day do not know when they are going to eat their next meal. This brings upon great stress to households as finding their next meal becomes the priority. The United States defines this shortage of food in households as food insecurity. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has defined food insecurity as a lack of consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life (Coleman Jensen, Rabbitt, Gregory, Singh, 2017). During this time period, post war Europe was especially hesitant toward immigrant populations and the dislike of Jews was common around the world. Hemingway used real life experiences and people as inspiration for characters, setting and plot in the novel and supposedly created the main character, Jake Barnes, as himself. In the Sun Also Rises, the anti semitic attitudes expressed toward Robert Cohn reflect Hemingway s personal anti semitic beliefs, which were a product of his time. Many aspects of Robert Cohn s character are stereotypical. One trait often found in stereotypical Jewish characters is their fascination with money. Hemingway makes remarks throughout the novel to imply that Cohn is always concerned with getting his money s worth, and is only interested in arguments or sporting events if there s money involved. Focus has been thought to be attained automatically from stimuli with negative valence, allowing quick recognition of possible threats (Itkes Mashal, 2015). The concept of disruption of performance on roles involving negative words has been heavily researched (Itkes Mashal, 2015), whereas minimal research has been conducted on the timing of semantic processing where negative valence applies its influence on performance. To view the influence of negative valence on performance, the emotional Stroop task has been utilised (Itkes Mashal, 2015). The Stroop task involves participants naming colours of words whilst disregarding their background. The words used generally bear negative or neutral valence, and results propose that reaction times are slower to negative words in comparison to neutral words. (Itkes Mashal, 2015) suggest that achievements on this role show a basic deceleration resulting from dangerous stimuli. In reference to the Automatic Vigilance Hypothesis, surrounding stimuli are involuntarily viewed as negative or positive (Itkes Mashal, 2015). This rapid reaction occurs due to the allowance for avoidance or approach behaviour. Negative data is prioritised when studies drew attention to factors of behaviour and brain activity. This allows for the cognition system to be prepared for any possible harm, that could disrupt present processing of information (Itkes Mashal, 2015). The film started off by talking about the fact that the petrochemical corporations use oil and concentrate it into plastic; which in turn kills individuals. Van Jones discusses the demise of people who are underprivileged because they can only manage to pay for the products that are hazardous to them. Additionally, poverty stricken people also assume the burden to dispose of plastic bottles and containers. Subsequently, Jones lectures about how when people recycle plastic bottles they wind up on boats that travel to developing countries; however, most often, China; and in closing stages, the plastic is burned; releasing poisonous chemicals which are exceedingly ... • 32. The Role Of Faith In The Screwtape Letters By C. S. Lewis In the novel The Screwtape Letters, C. S. Lewis depicts how Christians have strong reason and faith. These letters are used to contradict the bible as if god is satin and satin is god. Within the letters, the patient is supposed to be a Christian man that is being used in an experiment for the dark side. However, the patient resisted the temptations that the devil threw at him, and is able to beat the devil by having faith. This is a strong point that the narrator illustrates, because Screwtape is considered like a devil who is trying to influence his incompetent nephew, Wormwood. Screwtape is very wise, very subtle and very experienced, his nephew is a less than stellar student when it comes to swaying a person towards a hellish direction.... This sin is cleverly masked by the small portions of food that are involved. In addition, when the patient says, for example, All I want is a cup of tea... and the teeniest bit of really crispy toast, the sin of greed is horrible and most of the time unnoticeable when committed, because it is used to obtain exactly what one wants at any means necessary (Screwtape 88). Also, being picky is a way of hassling to others as it asks them to go out of their way in order to make something perfect. Moreover, it could jeopardize friendships because perfection can never be attained, and the disappointment of not getting their way could result in ill tempers toward others. Furthermore, while gluttony of delicacy may be different than the sin of gluttony, of excess, it produces querulousness, impatience, uncharitableness, and self concern, counteracting the attempt to avoid sin in the first place (Screwtape ch17). • 33. Heidegger s Relationship Between Poetry And Poetry In the words of Heidegger, the poem is a vortex that snatches us away not gradually, but suddenly, and thus we are drawn into a conversation. Understanding of poetry is essential to Heidegger s philosophy. There are two notions, which seem to stand at opposite poles, which are poetry and technology. They seem to be opposed forms of truth. In modern civilization, we see the world through our technology, but there was a time when the truth was seen through poetry. Holderlin (1770 1843) a symbol of the German Romantic Movement had a great impact on Heidegger s poetic thinking. In his various treatises, Heidegger clarifies his intent in studying thought through poetry and to enter into the truth of the poems studied. Heidegger believed that language ... In addition, the media consolidation does not only effect the content but the ownership and employment opportunities. Winseck (2011) and Havens (2014), both discuss the media mostly in the United States and other parts of the world; comparisons can be drawn to relate to Canadian media. Different theories have been developed around the capitalistic nature of the media corporation on the creativity and diversity of media (Havens, 2014). The following will examine the current standings of the large media corporations in the United States and other countries. In addition, the focus will be put upon the effects of consolidation... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The corporations have the capacity to censor or alter important issues that go against their political or ideological positions in the news and in other media outlets. Media can affect and shape public views on numerous issues by leading them in a way that fits in with the views of the organization. Since the media companies have consolidated individuals are less exposed to outside views or particular viewpoints to issues. The current issue can fit within the realm of propaganda, people watch and read what is available and intensely promoted (Chomsky Herman, 2002). If powerful corporations merge with others they are able to send out their own message and as frequently as they would like. In the news, broadcasters can exaggerate what their own points of views are on certain subjects to make individuals alter their own beliefs, as a result (Chomsky Herman, 2002). However, we can also argue that with current technologies individuals can go beyond the news to get their information by using the web for example. With the current technologies, individuals can also verify is statements made by the media contain some truth. What would be interesting to look at would be the racial and gender composition of media corporations and its effect on the diversity of media. Furthermore, the analysis of media consolidation proves to be beneficial in the eyes of capitalism. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In most cases, people think of Superman or Hercules, but in The Hobbit, an unexpected hero emerges and changes the name for all heroes to come. The Hobbit is a novel about Bilbo Bagginsand his journey, with thirteen dwarves and a wizard, seeking the treasure stolen by the dragon, Smaug. While on this unexpected journey, Bilbo and his companions overcome many obstacles to eventually get to the treasure and retrieve it. Throughout the story, Bilbo develops into a courageous man, who indeed, is a hero. Richard Tyre wrote an article, You Can t Teach Tolkien, and he explains his theory in which he connects multiple story s plot with six elements. The Hobbit, is assuredly a prime example of Tyre s theory because it follows all six steps throughout the story simultaneously. The six elements are; (1) those who hunt for treasure, (2) must go alone, (3) at night, (4) and when they find it, (5) they must leave some of their blood behind, (6) and the treasure is never what they expected (Tyre 19). These elements are steps in which a character must take to emerge into a hero in the end. Bilbo Baggins is the hero in The Hobbit, but he doesn t start off as the hero. He has always had heroic traits but throughout the novel, he pursues those six steps and in the resolution, he is transformed into an actual hero. The first element in Tyre s theory is (1) ... Until that time, I often had a different idea of my potential self every other week. I was constantly changing who I was and how I was going to get there. My Plan A at the time was to become a rock star and my Plan B was to win the lottery and to never have to worry about working ever again. Technically, that is still an option because you never truly know. However, it wasn t until this particular day that I realized what I wanted to be. During a seemingly typical day at Citrus College as I was walking out of the library, I noticed out of the corner of my eye an elderly lady with hair white as snow suddenly fall. As I turned to her, I was shaken by the distinct thud of her head hitting the concrete. This sent a spark of chills up my spine. His desire was for his son to also climb the social ladder. To assist with his son s success, Luther s father was a fierce judge of the character of his son, and often punished him severely for his failures. From these experiences, Luther developed a low self esteem and fear of failure, which encroached on every aspect of his life, including his theology. He was walking back to college from a brief visit home when he was caught in a violent thunderstorm. A lightning bolt struck near him, and Luther, fearing for his life, prayed to Saint Anne, a patroness for those in mortal peril and protector from thunderstorms, for intercession. Ais Implementation Case Study Essay Professional Salon Concepts Project III Kirstin Johnson DeVry University Abstract Steve Cowan is the owner of a distribution company of salon hair products. The company, Professional Salon Concepts, (PSC) was growing and decided to upgrade their AIS to support the demands of the company. Steve hired Mike, his brother in law to assist him and the two of them began to research the different products available believing they could better determine the needs of the company than a consultant could. After a short time they bought first one and then changing their minds and bought a second system. After a short training period the new system was installed with some very problematic first few days. Eventually the system was up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Missing Features How could PSC have avoided the problem of the missing features? If PSC had gotten RFPs the problem of missing features in the system they chose would have been eliminated during the vendor selection process. However, in the route they did take those features that were important to Steve but were not included in the AIS could have been included by having a systems requirements list and a written contract with the specifications explicitly written out. Conversion and Reporting How could PSC have avoided some of the conversion and reporting problems it faced? As I stated before, more time was needed in the testing and training portion of the conversion before the new AIS went online. One trick I learned from our own system change at the city I work in is to train a few operators on the new systems during the testing phase and then have them train a few more in their own departments. By using your own employees to train each other they are gaining a better understanding of how the system works. This way on the day of the change you have more people who understand the system and how to fix or correct the things that can go wrong. The more people you can have trained this way before the system change the better off you will be at the critical moment. Steve s Analysis Steve s analysis of the numbers is incomplete in my opinion. • 53. The Importance Of Spirituality In Antigone In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. The name of this prayer is the Sign of The Cross and as according to the Catholic Answers Website, is one of the common and fundamental Catholic prayers. It derives from the Bible (Matthew 28:19) where it states, Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit... The prayeritself was one of the very first ones that I learned as I child. Although I did not know it at the time, I was praying for the Holy Spirit to show my spirituality without realizing it. As a young adult I now know and understand that by praying that simple prayer, I am also showing my spirituality. Coming to that conclusion, however, has taken me on a spiritual journey in which I am still discovering new things every day. Spirituality is being concerned with one s religious values rather than only the quality of being concerned with the human spirit or soul as opposed to material or physical things. In Antigone, one of Sophocles plays, Antigone, the main character, is proof of that spirituality is being concerned with one s religious values rather than only the quality of being concerned with the human spirit or soul as opposed to material or physical things. After Polynices and Eteocles, Antigone s brothers, fight till death over the throne of the city of Thebes, the Greek City in which the play takes play, only Eteocles is given proper burial by the ... • 56. Comparing Story Of An Hour And Gail Goldwin s A Sorrowful... Kate Chopin s, author of The story of an Hour, and Gail Goldwin, author of A sorrowful Women use unique diction to to describe their main characters. In the Story of an Hour Kate describes a woman with a heart condition. She is faced with the horrible news of her husband, that might be dying. I like how Chopin s uses many descriptive words to explain the state Louise is in. As well as Goldwin uses symbols and metaphors in her writing to intrigue us to keep on reading. Both the writers have different ways of writing but use similar techniques to portray a message. Kate uses many descriptive adjectives to describe a scene or character in the story. Many writers use adjectives but Kate came up with bizarre but fascinating ones at the same time. My favorite line of the story is There stood, facing the open window, a comfortable, roomy armchair. Into this she sank, pressed down by a physical exhaustion that haunted her body and seemed to reach into her soul. This sentence describes when Mrs. Mallard here s the news about her husband and locks herself in her room. Chopin s grasped my attention instantly by the diction she chose to write her short story. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A scene that I think is very meaningful is when Kate describes Mrs. Mallard in at her window. For example, She could see in the open square before her house the tops of trees that were all aquiver with the new spring life. The delicious breath of rain was in the air. In the street below a peddler was crying his wares. The notes of a distant song which someone was singing reached her faintly, and countless sparrows were twittering in the eaves. I feel like this quote describes that she is now free to live without her husband. It symbolizes freedom that she has been wanting as you can tell later on in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 57. Hamlet Foils In Hamlet The foils of Hamlet In Hamlet, the main character tries to get revenge on his father s death by plotting the murder of Claudius, but it is his indecisiveness that leads to many problems. He is supported or opposed by characters who are considered foils to him. A foil is when a main character is compared to another character to better reveal the characteristics of the main character, as well as his intentions and motivations. There are many characters who can be considered foils to Hamlet. However, the characters that truly stand as foils to the protagonist are Laertes, Fortinbras, and Claudius. Hamlet and his foils are all put in a similar situation, but it is how they react and deal with their issues that makes them distinct from Hamlet. To begin with, Laertes is the most similar foil to Hamlet when it comes to circumstance and rage. They both want revenge for their father s death, though their method of revenge are different. Laertes is a man of action and wants to get revenge right away after learning that his father Polonius has been killed. In contrast to Laertes, Hamlet does not even make public knowledge of his father s murder. Laertes doesn t procrastinate his attempt at revenge like Hamlet. However, he is very shallow and Hamlet is a genius in comparison. Hamlet thinks of ways to plan his revenge against Claudius, though it is his tendency to overthink that leads him to his tragic flaw. He himself realizes that Laertes is put in a similar position to himself. I ll be your foil, Laertes: in mine ignorance your skill shall, like a star i the darkest night, Stick fiery off indeed (V.ii.5 7). Rage is another emotion the characters have in common. When Laertes learns of his father s death, he gets enraged and wants to get revenge instantly. To hell, allegiance! Vows, to the blackest devil! Conscience and grace, to the profoundest pit! I dare damnation: to this point I stand, that both worlds I give to negligence, let come what comes; only I ll be revenged most thoroughly for my father. (Act 4 Scene 5 lines 128 134). Laertes says to Claudius that he will honor his father when he says that he was in deed his father s son more than in words and that he will kill Hamlet. To cut his throat i ...
