Book Analysis Essay On Of Mice And Men
The wind howled as George and Slim ventured through the vast acres of land. As the sun was
setting, it let off a beautiful glow. The sky was like an ocean of golds and light pinks. It was
silent. George looked up at the sunset and broke the silence with a sniffle Ay Slim, I bet ya
Lennie would have loved this. George mourned. Aw c mon George, you are better off without
him, Slim explained, He was a pain anyways. I just can t stand to be without him. He replied to
Slim with a water fountain flowing down his face. As days past, things seemed to be looking up
for the two men. Candy stuck to his word and gave his savings to George like he promised after he

Life has no more meaning. I can t wait to see ya up there. George put his journal away and went
to sleep. The next day, George woke up and started his morning as if it were any normal day. He
went to the chicken coop and collected eggs, harvested the vegetables, and cleaned the pig pen.
Casually, he walked in the house and went upstairs. He grabbed the gun and gallantly walked down
the stairs. For he knew this was the last time he would do so. Where ya goin George? Slim
questioned while George was in mid stroll. Um, no where... George replied with no hesitation. Oh
alrighty then. Angrily replied Slim. George continued out the door and stumbled down the front
porch. He ran off into the forest. Intrigued, Slim quietly followed George not knowing what he
was about to witness. Oh so quietly, Slim watched his every move. He was so unsure to why
George looked so eager and determined while running through the woods. All the sudden George
stopped. Slim quickly did too but not quick enough. George heard a branch break. He
immediately began to scan the area. Slim hid behind a large oak tree and held his breath. After a
minute or two, he peeked over his shoulder to get a glimpse of George. What he saw left him
speechless. George had pulled out a gun. He put it to his temple. Then began to count down. 5... 4...

Reasons For Pe Being An Important Part Of The National...
The foundation subjects in the national curriculum comprise of history, geography, modern foreign
languages, physical education (PE), religious education, art and design, citizenship, computing,
design and technology and music (DFE 2013, p7).
All the foundation subjects have a place on the National Curriculum; however, for the purposes of
this essay we will be focussing on the reasons for PE being an important part of the National
Curriculum.
The National Curriculum (DFE 2013, p5) states that every state funded school must offer a
curriculum which is balanced and broadly based and which promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural,
mental and physical development of pupils at the school and of society and, prepares pupils at the
school for opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life .
It aims to give children the knowledge that that they need to be educated citizens and gives an
outline of the core knowledge around which teachers can develop exciting and creative lessons to
promote pupils knowledge, understanding and skills as part of the wider school curriculum (DFE
2013, p6).
The key aims of PE on the national curriculum focusses on a healthy lifestyle developing
competence across several physical activity areas and for children to be active for sustained
periods of time and encouraging children to engage in competitive activities and sports (Smith
2014. P213).
At Key Stage 1 the national curriculum states that pupils should develop fundamental

Ipod Persuasive Essay
In today s world, in general, life moves faster. Daily routines would not feel complete without
technology. Often it is believed that technology becomes worthless when one does not know how
to use it. Without the internet or television millions of people would go without the news and
events happening at the waking moment. Along with the advances in technology comes a great
dilemma to be explored of when an overload of technology has been reached and may result in
destruction of mankind. Technology includes most products that are manufacturer in factories
every day. Take iPods for example, they provide the soundtrack to many people s lives but mainly
routines. IPods are a pretty vague subject but the difficulty to narrow and limit... Show more content

activities, let alone themselves. Between making a dollar, to putting food on the plate many
people s priorities are not at the gym. Any person who trains or exercises will tell you they need a
trainer replacement . Nothing but an iPod does this quite well enough. The iPod along with iTunes

Victorian And Edwardian Briti A Place Rich Of Strict...
Victorian and Edwardian Britian was a place rich of strict christianity alongside widespread poverty
which resulted with a dangerous and damaging working structure, high rates of child mortality and
a rigid and damaging class structure that was highly focused around child labour.
The employment of children deprives them of childhood and a chance at education, interfering with
their ability to attend school and educational institutions, while mentally, physically and
emotionalling draining them. The lack of ceoncept of childhood resulted in chiren actively
participating in work as soon as they were seen competent.
Child labor interrupts a childrens cognitive development and can severly affect the childs social
development because the lack of freedom is impacting on their chance to engage in social play
and interacting with other individuals. Those who work many hours a week are at a higher risk to
develop problematic social behaviours and turn to negative behavoirs as they age alongside poor
preformance. [1]
In these times there was a lack of education, especially to the female population as it wasn t
deemed nessisary. Skills were passed down through generations as opposed to being learnt in
schools. This often lead to protests declaring that children were being used for slavery and being
stripped fo their adolescence and things that are vital for growth and understanding. With the
pressures for social reforms the victorian upperclass then became obsessed with idea of

Originated from Bassano del Grappa, more than 1600 years...
Originated from Bassano del Grappa, more than 1600 years ago, the famous Italian drink
Grappa becomes more and more famous all around the world. Not till 1960s, grappa transformed
from a cheap provincial Italian drink into a World Wide known drink. Traditionally made from
byproducts of the winemaking process (vinaccia): pomace, discarded seeds and stalks, Grappa was
considered as a cheap and low quality drink for farmers and other lower class workers. Very similar
with the French Brandies and Cognac, grappa is also a distilled beverage and can get up to 55 60
percent alcohol. The main difference is that it is not distilled from the base wine, but from the grape
pomace. The ideal combination for making grappa is 65%... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It was precisely this process of getting the fragrant essence out of things with fire, water, steam and
an invented apparatus. Patrick SГјskind one of the most famous distillers of all times. The
distillation process allows the most volatile substances such as alcohol and water evaporate at the
temperature of about 79 degrees celsius (as a mixture) and be separated from the rest of the
substance. To maintain a great quality of the product the Distiller should remove the heads and
tails from the distillate . In other words, remove the unpleasant parts of the substance. At the end
of this long process a yellow liquid is being produce with nearly 70 percent of alcohol in it. Th next
step is reduction of alcohol content in this liquid, to make the taste more pleasant. To
reduce the alcohol content there is basically added water (demeniralised), until the percentage of
alcohol drops to the point about 45 50 percent. In order to give Grappa its crystal clear
appearance the last process is taking place, filtration. After of quite long journey the untasty and
unpleasant red substance is transformed in a crystal clear good tasting drink. At the same time as
just an alcohol drink, for centuries Italians used it to ddd this drink into some meals or just into
their morning espresso. Cafe Corretto is a very famous Italian after dinner concoction, due to its
mixture with Grappa. Down the coffee in one

Occupational Exploration
Introduction When choosing a career, occupational exploration is important and also plays a vital
role when figuring what careers may or may not fit you best. While it is important to know what
you want to do from a career standpoint, having basic knowledge of the careers available to you
based on your skills, abilities, and interests helps to narrow down your career options. When you
examine career options, you should conducting proper research, and taking into account everything
from salary to job outlook in the future. In addition to willingness, career exploration deals with
how much information the student has already acquired from the source (Sharf, 2014). It is

Actuaries are tasked with analyzing data, predicting risk and liability, and determining the
probability of future payment for mortality, accident, and disability benefits. Like a financial
examiner, an actuary should have mathematical, problem solving, computer, and analytical
skills. The field would be ideal for Jill because it will expose her to different types of financial
careers like accounting, insurance, and financial analysts. If she doesn t like her work as an
actuary, the knowledge and exposure she may gain about other fields while working in the field
may help her make a better choice. Jill s on the job training will be extensive, but she will have
more opportunities to obtain different skills while training in marketing, product development, and
underwriting, which is also good exposure. The job outlook for actuaries is the best of all three
with an 18 percent growth over the next 10 years. The need for actuaries in the insurance field is
growing, but the growth in field will lead to more competition as well. The median salary for
actuaries is 96,700 with the lower end being over 58,000, and the higher end being over 180,000

Examples Of Foreshadowing In Of Mice And Men
Of Mice and Men Essay by Elisabeth Laria The novel Of Mice and Men uses foreshadowing
successfully to build tension towards the final tragedy. Foreshadowing is shown consistently
throughout the novel in various ways including; the introduction of Curley s wife, Lennie s
constant unawareness of his own strength, and Candy s dog being killed. These situations and
scenes build towards the final tragedy of the novel effectively. Throughout the novel, Lennie is
shown to love and care for various animals and people, however in each instance Lennie is
shown to be unaware of his own strength, and inadvertently hurts the things he loves. This
builds towards the final tragedy in the novel, as Lennie unintentionally kills Curley s wife,
leading to George and Lennie s worst fears to be fulfilled. The first example of Lennie s
unawareness of his own strength happens at the beginning of the novel, as it is revealed that he
had killed a mouse. George seeing this as a stepping stone to what will happen explodes saying
you always kill em (Of Mice and Men Steinbeck. J, 2006 page 14) During the novel, Lennie gets
a puppy at the beginning it seems that Lennie has grown and can care for the puppy, which
George sees as a sign of hope. George desperately wants to believe in his dream of owning his
own ranch. George is constantly trying to help Lennie do that right thing, an example of this is
when he scolds Lennie for taking the pup away from its mother I tol you you couldn t bring that pup

Spoilers! Exactly...how bad is this virus? Pretty bad. The Court of Owls is determined to cleanse
Gotham of all evil. Which in theory, not a bad idea. What sucks is that they re not including

up for the finale. There isn t a single standstill moment in this episode. It carries the action and a
strong plot, this is definitely more of their most entertaining episodes of the season. I knew it d get
better, we know from the beginning there is very little canon in Gotham. Other than the character
names and protagonist/antagonist identities, Gotham is working from scratch and creating
something that s never been written or played out before in live action. The following is an

Tale Of Two Cities Analysis
Charles Dickens, a brilliant author back in the 1850 s, wrote A Tale of Two Cities in order to
describe the similarities between the forces that led to the revolution and the oppression and unrest
occurring in England. The French revolution impacts history because the time period in which it
takes place is before and during the French revolution. The French revolution signifies the essence
of a rapid change, nevertheless, this change tore France right at the heart, where all the government
was functioning . France was torn apart because of the rebellions of the Bourgeoisie, against the
rich aristocrats, consequently the monarch Louis 14th. Charles Dickenswent further. He conveys the
idea of the French revolution through the use of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The discrimination in the novel is shown through the ways the royalty and aristocracies live
compared to the lives of the lower class. During the French revolution, the aristocrats were
significantly prosperous than the poverty, as shown in the wine scene. The difference in classes
is shown in a scene where the wine bottle breaks in front of a store, and peasants run to lick up
the wine, (book one chapter five), without any disregard of the mud that is mixed within it. The
breaking of the wine bottle affects the entire poverty class, All the people within reach had
suspended their business, or their idleness, to run to the spot and drink the wine. The peasants
were so poor they did not care about the wine being dirty, they were just happy to be capable of
having a drink. In Tale of Two Cities there are 2 types of social classes due to aristocracy being
the main idea to govern, This idea for centuries, was dictated by social and religious
convention. The gap in the classes and the lack of care for peasants caused hatred among the
peasants towards the aristocracy. The mistreatment of the peasant class of the aristocrats lead to the
French revolution. The hatred of the peasant class towards the rich is what the French revolution or
any revolution is built on. These inhumane discriminations led to a massive bloodshed of a
revolution against anyone who was even

Okonkwo Western Influence
The novel Things Fall Apart, by Chinua Achebe, is based in Nigeria in a tribe called the Ibo.
The main character, Okonkwo, was a fierce warrior and was looked up to by the rest of the tribe
for his strength and manliness. The western culture came into the Ibo tribe, and Okonkwo had
many struggles adapting to the new ideas they brought. Okonkwo does not embrace Christianity,
and other new beliefs brought by the western culture, and that leads to his tragic downfall.
Okonkwo had a strong sense of identity before western influence was introduced into his culture.
Okonkwo feared being like his dad, Unoka. Okonkwo felt that his dad was a failure, while
Okonkwo was successful at most everything he did. Okonkwo took pride in his great wrestling

At first, the Ibo were against listening to a word the missionaries said, These men [the
Christians] must be mad, they say to themselves. (140) Although, most men were against the
new culture, one boy was captivated by the new religion. Nwoye, Okonkwo s first son, was
drawn in by the thought that the Christians brought answers to his unanswered questions. The
missionaries kept sharing the gospel, with the hope that they could get more followers, like
Nwoye. The missionaries needed land to build their church and houses, so the Ibo men gave
them a portion of the Evil Forest with the beliefs that they would be die quickly. Once time
passes, none of the missionaries die, which implants questions in to the Ibo tribe about their own
faith, and the missionaries win their first three converts. Okonkwo was staunch in his own
religion, and primarily hated that the tribe was so weak that many people kept converting to
Christianity. Okonkwo was deeply grieved... He mourned for the clan, which he saw breaking up
and falling apart and he mourned for the warlike men of Umuofia, who had so unaccountably
become soft like women. (170) Okonkwo started to lose hope for his religion, and the people of his

Corn Differences
First post
1. What differences did you observe between the corn seeds and the teosinte seeds? An obvious
difference which was distinguished was the size of of the sides where the teosinte seeds were
smaller while the corn was larger. It was harder to find where to position the teosinte then the corn
too. The corn seemed to make the choice towards the wet sponge more.
2. Did the corn seeds behave differently from the teosinte seeds? In which ways? The corn seeds
were more likely to choice the wet sponge I saw throughout the class data. The teosinte was likely
to go up to instead of toward the wet sponge.

Could any of these differences be used to develop new hypotheses regarding decision making in
roots. I believe that using corn would show more results, and that decision could possibly be made
more if we had more incentive rather than just water.
5. We observed that corn plants and pea plants (Pisum sativum) grown under the same conditions
grew differently: under conditions that were often dry, the corn managed to maintain a larger
percentage of green leaf area relative to brown/dry leaf area. Investigate the photosynthetic systems
used by corn vs. that used by peas. Compare and contrast these two photosynthetic systems,
especially with respect to water availability and usage. The corn seems to retain more CO2 being a
C4 plant while the pea is a C3. This could be the possibility which corn stays green mostly. The
corn plant is more exposed to oxygen. The corn seems to be absent of a enzyme which is used in
the C4 plant to go through photosynthesis. The enzyme seems to be used when there are somewhat
bad conditions so this means the corn has better conditions of survival. The differ in the enzymes
which they used while they are the same in the sense that they both still go through the process of

heat is a picture, which takes up half of the brochure. It shows two boys and girls messing

swimming clothes on, which is another use of connotation as it implies that it is hot, they also all
have tans. The two girls have put ice creams on top of the boy s heads. The ice creams are

two ice creams makes it look like there are horns coming out of their heads. Which implies that they

The Upper Rio Grande Essay
The Upper Rio Grande
Change is an unavoidable part of life. For some, change can bring promise and a new beginning.
For others, change disrupts what is routine and normal and makes what is new seem strange and
unfamiliar. The history of North America has been shaped by change ever since Columbus first
discovered the continent in 1492. With that discovery, the continent would never be the same again.
More specifically, the Native Americantribes who first inhabited this continent would never be the
same.
Over the years the Native Americans would see new explorers and missionaries take over the land
that was once theirs and claim it for another country. The traditions, customs, and culture of these

Finally, this paper will give an overview of the native people of the Upper Rio Grande during the
19th century and their interaction with the rest of New Mexico.
From 1598 1606, Don Juan de Orate colonized the Rio Grande area. The Spanish settlers came with
more than just colonization on their minds. Orate and his men were hoping the area would prove to
be a huge resource of gold and other valuable resources. Meanwhile, Spanish missionaries brought
Christianity to the Indians (White, 6).
Orate entered the area now known as New Mexico with a group made up of 130 families, 276
single men, 83 wagons and carts, 11 Franciscan Friars (and) 7,000 cattle herded by drovers on
foot (Horgan, 161). At a celebration of the settlement, Orate asserted what he believed was a
rightful claim to the land that was already occupied by Pueblo Indians. Before kneeling at a
cross and asking God for the successful conversion of the native people, he said I take possession
. . .of the lands of the said Rio Grande, without exception whatsoever, with all its meadows and
pasture grounds and passes . . . and all its native Indians (Horgan, 165). The Spanish did not take
no for an answer.
They took supplies from the Indians; sometimes paying for them, sometimes not. They were
ruthless.

Comparison Between Plato And Plato
Over centuries theorists and philosophers and have been creating new ideas in order to help form
society. The philosophers help determine why we obey, what morality is, how to create justice
inside and outside society, the state of nature, equality, and the state of war. They distinguish how
the people and government help create a well oiled society. Comparing Platoto Rousseau, the
beginning of philosophy to a more modern perspective. In Crito by Plato, Socrates continues a
speech of the Laws of Athens by appealing to a social contract that exists between the Laws and
the citizens. By living in Athens, one must abide by the Laws of Athens. Since Socrates is in
prison, if he were to try to escape he would be breaking the Law. Socrates lived in Athens
following the Athenian Law up to this point. Socrates dismissed the possibility of exile, saying
he would rather die than live outside of Athens. Though they offered the exile freely, to flee
Athens when the Law no longer permitted him to do so. There is no reason or will for Socrates
to break to Law now when he always agreed to follow them. The problem with this is that Socrates
accusers have unjustly sentenced him by usig the Laws. The accusers viewed the Laws in their
own perspective. By writing Crito, Plato hoped to distinguish them as a separate entity, making
them something human toward which Socrates might be able to act unjustly. However, it may be
hard to deem that the laws of a state from which the people who apply

Frameworks In Greenwashing
Businesses are facing increasing pressures from both internal and external stakeholders to be
accountable and transparent, and to disclose the social, environmental and economic impacts of
their activities through sustainability reporting (Klettner, Clarke Boersma 2014; Soderstrom 2013).
Accordingly, there has been an increase in organisations claiming their voluntary commitment to
the international standards and frameworks for corporate sustainabilitynamely, the United Nations
Global Compact (UNGC) and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) s sustainability reporting
guidelines (Klettner, Clarke Boersma 2014; Milne Gray 2013). According to Benn, Dunphy

This is not to say that frameworks such as the GRI do not endorse improvements in business
reporting and accountability (Milne Gray 2013). Rather, it is the fact that the adoption of these
frameworks solely relies on the voluntary commitment by businesses that reduces its effectiveness
(Klettner, Clarke Boersma 2014; Milne Gray 2013). This same issue also extends to companies
codes of conduct and certification schemes.
Elsewhere, the introduction of the new IR framework by the IIRC (International Integrated
Reporting Council) has been suggested to be a paradigm shift in the way corporations report their
activities to stakeholders (Klettner, Clarke Boersma 2014; Soderstrom 2013). Until now, business
reports primarily focused on TBL (Triple Bottom Line) reporting of economic, social and
environmental impacts (Adams 2013). While some corporations have demonstrated a willingness
to achieve higher standards of performance in corporate sustainability in line with international
frameworks (such as the GRI), rarely do they produce reports which provide information on social
and environmental issues to the same extent and quality as that of financial information (Boersma

Many stories of the Arthurian legend contain some reference to Merlin, as either a wizard or a
prophet. As a magician, Merlin performed feats such as the moving of Stonehenge, the disguising of
Uther Pendragon, and the crowning of King Arthur by the use of the sword in the stone (Fletcher
25). As a prophet, Merlin told of the defeat of the Saxons, the death of Arthur, and the one who
found the Holy Grail.
Almost everyone knows the story The Sword in the Stone by T.H. White wherein Merlin
instructed Arthur in his life as king, but what most don t know is that Merlin was, in legend, the
son of a devil. An incubus came and bedded with Merlin s mother so that she would bear his
child (Ackerman 168). One story that shows the significance of this union is Geoffrey of
Monmouth s Historia regum Britannae. In this book there is a section that tells the tale of
Vortigern and Ambrosius. Vortigern, the King of Britain at the time, wants to build a new retreat,
but every night the foundation is destroyed. Vortigern s wise men tell him he must sprinkle the
spot with the blood of a child born fatherless. After a long and tedious search, Ambrosius is found
and brought before Vortigern. Ambrosius tells the King not to slay him but to dig in the spot for
two vases. Those digging found these two vases and inside were two tents. Inside the two tents
were a red dragon and a white dragon. These creatures fought each other

An Industry Analysis Of Smart Phone Industry
1. Perform an industry analysis of the smart phone industry. Do you believe Apple was effective
in neutralizing the threats and capitalizing on the opportunities posed by the forces in the smart
phone industry? If yes, explain how. If not, explain why not. The industry analysis of the smart
phone industry could be performed using Porter s five forces framework. This framework
involves describing the bargaining power of buyers, bargaining power of suppliers, threat of
new entrants, threat of substitutes and rivalry among existing firms in the industry as well as
explaining the impact of these forces on industry s profitability. Following is a description of
these five forces in case of smart phone industry, explanation of how these forces are likely to
affect industry profitability and an analysis of how Apple strategically neutralized the threats
and capitalized on the opportunities posed by these forces. Firstly, consider the bargaining
power of suppliers. The suppliers in the smart phone industry had strong bargaining power
because they were specialist, i.e. providing exclusive supplies and services and also few in
number as is stated in the case; The supplier who captured most of the value in the smart phones
was Qualcomm, which largely controlled CDMA (3G) and LTE (4G) the two most important
protocols for wireless service. Except in China, Qualcomm earned between 3.5% and 5% royalties
on almost every CDMA and LTE phone sold in the world. The CPU structure was also

Discuss these solutions. Ans : One form of hardware support that guarantees that a buffer
overflow attack does not take place is to prevent the execution of code that is located in the stack
segment of a process s address space. We know that buffer overflow attacks are performed by
overflowing the buffer on a stack frame and overwriting the return address of the function, thereby
jumping to another portion of the stack frame that contains malicious executable code that had
been placed there as a result of the buffer overflow. By preventing the execution of code from the
stack segment, this problem is eliminated. Approaches that use a better programming methodology
are typically built around the use of bounds checking to guard against buffer overflows. Buffer
overflows do not occur in languages like Java where every array access is guaranteed to be within
bounds through a software check. Such approaches require no hardware support but result in run
time costs associated with performing

Visual Acuity Research Paper
What is visual acuity?
Visual acuity is commonly referred to as the clarity of vision and is dependent on both optical
and neural factors, such as the sharpness of the retinal focus in the eye, the health of the retina,
and the sensitivity of the brain. One aspect of visual acuity is the ability of recognizing and
discriminating the colours of the visible spectrum of light. There are two types of cells involved
in vision: rod cells and cone cells. Rod cells are highly sensitive cells that allow for low acuity
vision in dim lit environments, however they lack the detail and colour information. Cone cells are
high acuity cells that provide colour information in well lit environments. Rod cells provide more
convergence than the cone cells which results in their increased sensitivity but also results in the
decreased acuity.
Physiology behind differences in visual acuity in men vs women
It is generally believed that woman have higher discriminatory abilities with respect to naming of
colours, which often implies they have superior colour vision. It has been found in many studies
that women perform better than men in the matching of colours from memory, and tend to use a
plethora of different words to describe sets of colour stimuli. It is possible that there exists an
underlying physiological explanation for why there should be ... Show more content on

Eric Erikson s Theory Of Psychosocial Development
Developmental psychology is a study of the growth and the maturation of a person over time.
How the individual grows psychically, cognitively and how they are socially over time. All of
these factors shape us into the person new become. I have decided to study in and focus on Erik
Erikson s theory of psychosocial development. He takes a closer look on the choices that we are
forced to deal with and the conflicts they make during different parts of their life. His theory has
eight theories, there are different types of problems and conflicts with each stage that an
individual will encounter and have to resolve. It s important to deal with these conflicts that are
presented to the individual during the stages, because if they are not taking care of the individual
will end up struggling with them later on in life. Erikson has a developmental process that
explains the development between infancy to adulthood. He explains this within 8 stages; during
these stages the individual experiences crisis which could have a positive or a negative outcome
on the person s personality. Erikson is known as an ego psychologist focusing on culture and
society and the conflicts that can take place with someone s ego (McLeod, S). The first stage is
trust vs. mistrust this occurs during the first year of life where the infant is uncertain about the
world and they have to develop feelings. The infant finds hope in trusting someone, and has to
figure out who they will choose not to trust. The

Sex in the City by Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo Essay
I bought this book when I was in class 8th and had an enormous crush on a guy who liked by
then best friend. I loved the book so much that I recommended it to and even passed around my
copy to help those who weren t sure as to what was going on in their lives. Yes, I bought the
book. I was 14 then. The book was intended to empower girls to stop waiting for disinterested
guys. And it did emancipate the 14years old me from the unending pain! I realized that if a guy
liked me, he would make it obvious by telling me so, calling me regularly, taking me out, etc. and
if he does not do all this, he is not interested in me. My world was suddenly black and white.

They say so because although it seems that the guy gave the girl the control of the situation, in
reality of the authors world, this means that HE gets to choose whether to pick up her call or not.
However on planet Earth, the girl could have just called to fix a date.
And then there were dodgy suggestions like how a woman should never ever ask a man out because
men are conditioned to lead. The guy could be as unsure of your feelings as you are of his, or he
could be shy! I say WHY NOT ask a man out!
Many women play the martyr in relationships with men who don t treat them well because many
women feel so devoted to their partners that they are afraid of losing them. They sometimes delude
themselves with fantasies about why the partner still loves them despite all the signs pointing
otherwise. This isn t gender specific! Guys are just as delusional as women when in love! They too
would try to save the relationship by playing the martyr .
Real life is not so black and white, and this highly sexist, misogynistic book assumes that it is.
Unluckily, relationships are perilously perched in the grey and that s what makes them hard and
complicated. We are humans after all. We hurt and shape each other all the time. It is unfair to hold
men responsible for initiating all hetero relationships, casual or serious. Men are equally affected by

The Strange Death Of Silas Deane Summary
Studying history can be an active, often arduous process, dependent on making assumptions with
the evidence available and proving those assumptions to be correct or otherwise. But it can also be
an easy task if done incorrectly, one of cutting corners and assuming falsehoods to be true for the
sake of convenience. This is the way that many historians, amateur or professional, approach
history. Not only does this approach exclude any possibility for well constructed conclusions to be
made, it can also leave the populace ignorant of the truth. In The Strange Death of Silas Deane ,
James West Davidson and Mark Hamilton Lytle argue that history is not merely the act of
collecting data rather of making assumptions about the data through the use of countless rhetorical
questions, paragraphorganization, and a sardonic tone.
The Strange Death of Silas Deane retraces the story of Silas Deane, an early American politician,
and the events that led up to his death. The authors begin by revealing the conclusion that most
historians have made about the case: Deane committed suicide. Then, they steadily disprove that
conclusion with a myriad of facts and interpretations. The essay provides a thorough recount of
Deane s life and argues that Silas didn t commit suicide rather, he was murdered. To give weight to
this hypothesis, the authors draw from reserves of knowledge about Deane and his closest friend,
Edward Bancroft. After investigating Bancroft s life and his relationship with

Legal Concepts Of The Firm
1.1Legal Different Concepts of the Firm:
The precise legal details of the corporation s differ across countries. The company law of the U.K
is similar to the company law of the U.K because they share a common origin. The managers in
both countries have a fiduciary duty to the shareholders. In other words, they have a strong
requirement to act in the interests of shareholders. The channel through which shareholders
exercises control of company affairs is the board of directors. The board is elected by
shareholders and typically on a one share vote basis. Sometimes multiple classes of shares exits,
the main difference between classes being the number of votes each share has attached to it.
The board of directors consists of a mix outside directors and inside directors, the latter being the
top executives of the firm. It is rare that the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is not on the board.
In both U.S and U.K the CEO often acts as chairman as well. Once elected the board of directors
of directors specifies the business policies to be pursued by the firm. The role of management is to
implement the policies determined by the board. Shareholders have very little say in the affairs of
the company beyond electing directors. For example, it is the directors who decide on their own
compensation, without any input from shareholders. A committee of outside directors determines
the senior management compensation. Except in unusual circumstances, such as a proxy fight, the

The Importance Of Planned Parenthood
Planned Parenthood, a nonprofit organization which provides affordable reproductive care,
currently receives government funding. Those in need of affordable health care can go to PPFA for
STI treatment, pap smears, and prevention of unintended pregnancies. The problem arises in PPFA
s prevention of unintended pregnancies, particularly abortion. But abortion is not the only issue the
public finds in the organization. The public has recently questioned PPFA s integrity and motives as
their controversial actions are exposed. Government funded healthcare should be easily accessible
for all people, but Planned Parenthood is not the organization for this. Instead, the government
should push its funds towards organizations whose practices are not controversial and still provide
quality health care.
Although Planned Parenthood provides other affordable health care services for men, women,
and children, many people find their service of abortion controversial and seek to defund them
specifically for the discontinuation of this practice. Abortion was legalized under the Roe vs
Wade case in 1973 and soon after, PPFA made it one of their available services so they could
provide maximum reproductive health care for all women. Since its legalization, abortion has
taken the lives of nearly sixty million children. Out of the sixty million, PPFA is responsible for
7.7 million (Number of Abortions). Defunding the organization would cause 1) an increase in birth
rates, 2) an increase in

A Brief Look at Charlie Chaplin
Every day millions of Americans go to theaters with their families to enjoy movies. Watching films
has become one of the most popular activities to do. Although plenty of people know of Charlie
Chaplin, most do not know any real information about him. Charlie Chaplin has been a major
contributor to America s advancement in the filmindustry from his innovative beginnings, and
perseverance to improve and succeed, to his overall achievements in history. Charlie Chaplin
was born in South London on April 16, 1889. He was the first child of Hannah and Charles
Chaplin. Charles was vaudeville actor. Hannah was a vaudeville singer. Charlie s father was a
drunk and he later left his family when he was three years old when he found out his wife had an
affair with another actor, Leo Dryden. They soon had a child named George, who left to live
with his father. Since Hannah was now a single mother, she was struggling to find a way to
provide for her children. She had another son that was older than Charlie, from a previous
relationship (Schwartz). Hannah s singing alone was not enough to earn her the money to care
for two boys. She took up sweatshop work on a sewing machine she rented to earn extra income.
Due to the small amount of income they had, Charlie s family moved in and out of orphanages
and boys homes on a regular basis. Hannah s career as a singer ended abruptly in 1894. She lost
her voice during a performance. While the crowd was getting rowdy and starting to throw things

Rawls Theory of Justice
The conventional accounts of Justice normally begin by stating a fundamental rule of Aristotle
Justice is to treat equals equally and unequals unequally, and that unequal treatment should be in
proportion to the inequality. In everyday life though, justice is seen as an attribute of law, while all
laws are not necessarily just. Many great socio political movements of the world have focused from
time to time on unjust laws eg Apartheid laws in South Africa and
Caste laws in India. Impartiality and fairness are understood to be the two aspects of justice. But it
would be misleading to suggest that Justice refers solely to the fair application of a rule. Some
rules, though fairly applied, may produce results repugnant to our ... Show more content on

Rawls assumes that these hypothetical people would be conservative risk takers and in a situation
of uncertainty would opt for the least disadvantageous outcome in any choice presented to them and
they would choose those principles that would maximize the position of the worst off, for just in
case they should be the worst off.
The two principles of justice that such people choose are:
1. Each person is to have an equal right to the most extensive liberty compatible with a similar
liberty to others. 2. Social and economic inequalities are to be arranged so that they are both
a) to the greatest benefit of the least advantages
b) attached to offices and positions open to all under conditions of fair equality and opportunity.
These principles are arranged by Rawls in a specific order and are subject to the priority rule, ie
the first principle has to always precede the second and 2a should always come before 2b. Rawls
commitment to equality, his passionate defense of liberty and his acceptance of inequality only
when it brings advantages to the least advantaged are the basic principles of his theory. Thus Rawls
advocates a constitutional democracy as the arrangement for upholding these principles. Although
this theory seems like a foolproof and universal arrangement in favour of justice and

The Role Of Homeland Security From The United States...
The role of Homeland Security originated from the Founding Fathers, under the United States
Constitution, that created a system and gave the primary role of homeland security to state and
local governments (Oliver, 2007). When state and local governments became overwhelmed and
could no longer effectively deal with a crisis then homeland security government would assist those
governments (Oliver, 2007). The relationship was created through the United States Constitution in
Article 4, Section 4, which declared that the United States shall guarantee to every state in this
Union a Republican form of government, and shall protect each of them against invasion; and on
application of the legislature, or of the executive (when the legislature cannot be convened) against
domestic violence (U.S. Constitution, 2015) (Oliver, 2007). President John F. Kennedy was
elected 1961, and made it a priority to necessitate organizational changes with homeland security
(Oliver, 2007). President John F. Kennedy felt that local governments were doing little if anything
to prepare for natural disasters and civil defense (Oliver, 2007). This became a priority for the
Kennedy administration, and the office of civil and Defense mobilization was split into two
agencies that became known as the Office of Emergency Planning and the Office of Civil Defense
(Oliver, 2007). President Carter, President Clinton, and President George W. Bush all made
additional organizational changes that resulted in the

The Causes Of Global Warming
Global Warming
Humans are the most influential causes of global warming. This is mainly happening because of
the carbon pollution spreading throughout the atmosphere caused by burning fossil fuels. Carbon
dioxide and many other chemicals released into the atmosphere act like a blanket which traps the
heat of the sun and causes the planet to get warmer. From 2000 to 2009 it was the hottest decade in
the past 1,200 years (according to the National Climate Assessment). This is changing everything
about Earth, from land, atmosphere, oceans, and ice. This causes extreme weather, polluted air,
wildlife extinction, and even diseases due to the warmer weather. Global warming is a huge problem
in our world today and we must try to lessen the affects by encouraging the government to spend
its attention more on global warming programs, informational ads, and websites in order to keep
the world safe and to secure a better future. As sea and land experience fast changes, the
organisms that inhabit them are challenged if they do not adapt fast enough. Many freshwater,
land, and ocean species are moving to colder climates in order to escape the heat. They are also
changing migrational patterns and seasonal behaviors. Many animals can die from these
experiences and some species can even go extinct. A 2015 study from the Intergovernmental Panel
on Climate Change presented that vertebrate species like birds, fish, and reptiles are disappearing
114 times faster than they should be and this

A Brief Note On The Suicide By Firearms

March 20th, 2017
Emile Durkheim defined suicide as any death which is the immediate or eventual result of a
positive or negative act accomplished by the victim himself (Emile Durkheim s Four Types of
Suicide, 2014). Emile Durkheim began his studies on suicide in 1897. He thought that economic,
religious, and military factors would greatly influence his findings. After he concluded his study
he found that there were four different types of suicide. The first type of suicide is Egoistic
suicide. This type of suicide occurs when the degree of social interaction a person has is low....

An example of this could be when the market crashes or spikes (Emile Durkheim s Four Types of
Suicide, 2014). The last type of suicide is Fatalistic suicide. People generally commit this type of
suicide are people whose lives are kept under tight regulation. These people often live their lives
under extreme rules. These types of people are left feeling like they have no sense of self (Emile
Durkheim s Four Types of Suicide, 2014) .
Every year there are at least 20,000 firearm suicides in the United States. That s more than 50
every single day. That s more than half of all suicides and two thirds of firearm deaths. Research
has shown that guns in the home make suicide three times more likely. There are many reasons
why the presence of a firearm in the home can t be a risk factor for suicide. Having a firearm in
the house provides impulsivity for suicide at times. Also, firms are also so much more lethal than
any other method. Most people who survived a suicide attempt do not go on to die by suicide, but
only one in 10 people who attempt suicide by gun get that second chance (Brady Campaign to
Prevent Gun Violence).
Typically, firearms are divided into two categories, there are handguns and long guns. Handguns
are firearms such as pistols that are designed to be held and fired with one hand. The most common
types of handguns are single shot handguns, revolvers, and semiautomatics (Saferstein, 2016, p. 192

A Research Study On Hunger Free Colorado
Introduction This study constitutes an attempt to induce higher income households to donate a
greater percentage of their disposable income to charitable causes. The way in which it seeks to
achieve this goal is through the administration of an online survey whose primary intent is the
elicitation of dissonant processes, which may serve to enhance the subjective valuation about
the charity, Hunger Free Colorado. According to their website: Hunger Free Colorado leads
efforts to connect families and individuals to food and nutrition resources, and to create positive
changes in systems, policies and social views, so no Coloradan goes hungry. By working at the
federal, state and county levels, we streamline business processes and adopt best practices that
will help alleviate hunger throughout the state. Considering the following statistics, it is clear
why Hunger Free Colorado s work is so important: Nearly 1 in 7 Coloradans struggled with
hunger in 2013, facing times when there was not enough money to buy food for their families or
themselves (Colman Jenson, Gregory, Singh, 2013). More than 1 in 5 Colorado households with
children (22%) reported food hardship, facing financial challenges to put food on the table (Food

their lives grow from experiences. Basically, Perlstein s article is trying to express that college is
lacking creativity for these new generation of college kids, since kids these days are truly not

Boucce Research Paper
A Research About Bocce
History: Bocce Ball has been evolving for thousands of years. The basics of the game can be traced
back to games that were played in Egypt around 5000 BC when people first began settling along
the Nile Delta. Records dating to the 3rd century BC also show the popularity of a Bocce like game
with Roman soldiers. As the Roman Empire spread, this game was introduced throughout the
European continent, Asia and North Africa.
Bocce Ball is one of the oldest of all lawn or yard games. Best known in Italy, it is gaining
popularity in North America since it can be played by people of all ages and on a great variety of
surfaces. Bocce is played between two players or two teams of up to four players ... Show more

If you are successful in getting your bocce closer to the pallino than your opponent, you are
awarded points.
Scoring: Bocce ball is a game played with two teams, each comprised of one, two or four players.
Each team has four bocci balls with which to play, and they are divided equally among players.
Each team tosses the bocci balls as close to the pallina ball as possible.
How to play:
1.)Divide players into two teams of one, two or four players each. Each team gets four balls,
divided equally among the players. A coin toss determines who will play first.
2.)To start the game have a player from the starting team stand behind the foul line (which is 10
feet from the throwing end of the court) and throw the small ball, or pallina, toward the opposite
end of the playing surface. The same person who tossed the Pallino then throws the one Bocce Ball
trying to get it as close to the Pallino as possible without touching it.
3.)The next team then throws one ball trying to get closer than the first team. If team two gets
closer, then it is Team one s turn. If Team Two s ball does not come closer then they continue to
throw until

John Okada s No-No Boy
The United States of America a nation known for allowing freedom, equality, justice, and most of
all a chance for immigrants to attain the American dream. However, that America was hardly
recognizable during the 1940 s when President Franklin Roosevelt issued Executive Order 9066,
ordering 120,000 Japanese Americans to be relocated to internment camps. As for the aftermath,
little is known beyond the historical documents and stories from those affected. Through John
Okadas novel, No No Boy, a closer picture of the aftermath of the internment is shown through the
events of the protagonist, Ichiro. It provides a more human perspective that is filled with emotions
and connections that are unattainable from an ordinary historical document.... Show more content

More importantly, it makes Ichiro loathe himself more because he feels as though being a No
no boy makes him incapable of being American since he is not deserving or capable of walking
around proudly like the veterans. Unlike the veterans, Ichiro finds himself unable to prove that
he is American which leaves him with his Japanese identity. However, it is that same Japanese
identity that got him interned, imprisoned, harassed, and in the position that he is in now. Above
all, what is clearly visible is that there is not only a separation within the nation but a separation
within the entire Japanese community. The differences in Ichiro s family contributed to his self
hatred and seemingly lost identity. To him, he was the emptiness between the one and the other
and could see flashes of the truth that was true for his parents and the truth that was true for his
brother (Okada, 19). He did not want to be Japanese because he did not know the language and
was consumed with anger and hatred towards his parents because even they weren t any less
Japanese even after living in America for thirty five years, thus utterly rejecting America (Okada,
19). In addition, his mother s defiance of the reality of Japan s loss in the war and their inability to
go back to Japan as she hoped for, as well as his father s lack of control and courage only increases
his desire to not be Japanese. However, Ichiro s

Hydrogen Batteries And Fuel Cells
Introduction Batteries/Fuel Cells Fuel cells operate via a chemical reaction which generates
electricity. All fuel cells contain a positive anode, a negative cathode and an electrolyte to carry the
charged particles through the cell. They also contain a catalyst which will increase the rate of the
reaction occurring. The electricity produced can then used to power various appliances. This, in
turn, creates a circuit with the current continually flowing in and out of the cell until the reaction
ceases . Recently the development metal air batteries (which can be produced from a range of
metals from Aluminium to Zinc Primary and Secondary Batteries) have become very important.
They are used to power electric vehicles and other... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

H2O+4e в†’4OH 2Mg +O2+ 2H20в†’Mg2++4OH The voltage theoretical voltage and specific
energy density of a magnesium air fuel cell is 3.1V and 6.8kWhkg 1iii hence has the potential
for creating highly efficient fuel cells in the future. This coupled with the fact that there is no
shortage of Magnesium on the planet means that the resources, although finite, are unlikely to
run out and so Magnesium is an ideal material to use. Also the properties of the metal, such as
reactivity, toxicity etc are ideal for this applicationi. Materials Involved in the production of
Magnesium Air Batteries Anode As mentioned previously the anode is composed of Magnesium
metal (atomic weight 24.312 ) and is oxidised to produce electrons. The reason this metal is used
because it is lightweight, cheap and has a high standard potential. These fuel cells are also
generally very durable and can be easily stored. Easy storage is made possible by the fact that a
protective film is naturally produced over the positive anode. However this decreases once some
of the energy has been released from the cell. Hence it is not ideal to be used in a situation where
over a long period of time there are times when the cell is not being used. This is part of the reason
why lithium batteries are

Garage Door Troubleshooting Techniques
Having a stuck garage door can be so infuriating; it almost makes you feel like driving through it.
Several people find themselves in this situation, especially during winter. Instead of getting
frustrated, use your skills and do some troubleshooting techniques to resolve the issue. First,
take a few minutes to examine the door to see if its safety features are working properly.
Sometimes the manufacturer s safety features may prevent the door from opening. If that doesn t
work, perhaps these troubleshooting tips will. Here are some of the steps you could take before
you call in a company offering garage door repair services: 1. Typically most doors have settings
like vacation or automatic lock modes. If the door is set to this mode, then it will not... Show more

Check the automatic sensors to see if the light is on. If the light on the sensor is not blinking, it
would need replacement. Also nothing should be obstructing the sensors and their path. Trust
the Experts on Garage Door Repair The automatic garage doors work on simple mechanics. The
door uses springs and mechanical pulleys to operate. So it is not very difficult to understand
what is wrong with the door. While some minor problems can be easily fixed by you,
replacement and other major repairs should not be attempted on a D I Y basis. The main reason
is, these doors need to be fixed thoroughly. Garage doors are very heavy and if they fall they can
injure a person very badly. Even if you re a mechanical expert, it is best if you have it inspected
by professionals. There are a few things that you can do by yourself like greasing the springs and
the tractions. You can also occasionally fix the loose hinges, nuts and screws. When you are
repairing the door yourself, always keep the manufacturer s manual handy and follow the
instructions to a T. When replacing the parts always use the original ones sold by the door
manufacturer. Do not buy off the market add ons as they may cause accidents and spoil the

Essay about Macroeconomics
You may have already studied microeconomics, which looks at supply, demand and prices for
individual goods. Macroeconomics looks at the bigger picture and involves the study of the
economy as a whole.
National income
Let us start by looking at a simple example a
two sector economy made up of households
(consumers) and firms (producers) and use this to develop the idea of national income. To start with
we will ignore the impact of government policy and overseas sectors.
Households ultimately own the factors of production, e.g., labour, materials and capital, and supply
these factors to firms who use them to produce goods and services. In return households earn
rewards for supplying the firms with the factors of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This model will use the following definitions: Consumption (C) consumption goods produced and
sold to customers i.e., the chairs.
Savings (S) income that is not spent on consumption. Investment (I) production of, or expenditure
on, non consumption goods (carried out by firms) including expenditure on increasing stocks of
consumption goods.
Injections expenditure on domestic output not originating from consumers e.g., investment.
Leakages income not spent on consumption of domestic output e.g., savings.
Consumers will not spend all their income on goods and services. They will also have savings
income not spent on consumption. Similarly producers will not just spend on producing goods but
will also carry out investment expenditure on non consumption goods.
There are therefore injections into (investment) and leakages from (savings) the circular flow.
These injections and leakages can now be added to the circular flow model (see Figure 2)
Figure 2
Notes to Figure 2
In this model the income earned by households (Y) must be equal to expenditure on purchasing
national product (E). Output of consumption goods by firms equals consumption expenditure by
household s (C). Note that households do not spend all their income instead they save (S) a leakage.
Expenditure on non consumption goods by firms is investment (I) an injection.
Income (Y) = Expenditure (E)

Pharmacist Vs Pharmacy Technician Research Paper
Hospital Pharmacist Vs. Pharmacy Technician In today s world, many people are looking for a
job that would give them fulfillment in life. However, many of us are not sure what job really fits
us. At the beginning of college, I was not sure what career I wanted to pursue. My counselor
suggested that I enroll in General Studies , which would give me the requirements I needed, no
matter what career I chose. As a collegestudent like me, it is really hard to choose between two
careers. Since I was a kid, I always wanted to go into the medical field, not because my parents
wanted me to, but because I want to help people. I always wanted to do something good for other
people. I also wanted to get a job where I can use my skills and abilities. My two major career
choices are hospital pharmacist and pharmacy technician. For selecting a career, I have decided to
look for three key areas: educationrequirements, skill requirements, and salary potential.... Show

I knew that working in a medical field requires a lot of skill. One of the skills required is
communication skill. I do not have any problem with that. I know that I am a very talkative person
and I do love talking to others, so verbal skills come naturally to me. The Occupational Outlook
Handbook U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics from United States Department of Labor says that
hospital pharmacists must continue their courses throughout their career to keep updated with the
latest advances in pharmacological science. Basically what hospital pharmacists and pharmacy
technicians do are to fill up prescriptions, keep records, and instruct every patient on how and
when do they need to take their prescriptions . One thing that makes these two jobs different to
each other is pharmacists in the hospital are more flexible than the retail one. Although I do not
have the job skills now, I will learn the skills as I continue my journey into the pharmacy

  • 2. Book Analysis Essay On Of Mice And Men The wind howled as George and Slim ventured through the vast acres of land. As the sun was setting, it let off a beautiful glow. The sky was like an ocean of golds and light pinks. It was silent. George looked up at the sunset and broke the silence with a sniffle Ay Slim, I bet ya Lennie would have loved this. George mourned. Aw c mon George, you are better off without him, Slim explained, He was a pain anyways. I just can t stand to be without him. He replied to Slim with a water fountain flowing down his face. As days past, things seemed to be looking up for the two men. Candy stuck to his word and gave his savings to George like he promised after he drowned in the river. The next day, George woke up and started his morning as if it were any normal day. He went to the chicken coop and collected eggs, harvested the vegetables, and cleaned the pig pen. Casually, he walked in the house and went upstairs. He grabbed the gun and gallantly walked down the stairs. For he knew this was the last time he would do so. Where ya goin George? Slim questioned while George was in mid stroll. Um, no where... George replied with no hesitation. Oh alrighty then. Angrily replied Slim. George continued out the door and stumbled down the front porch. He ran off into the forest. Intrigued, Slim quietly followed George not knowing what he was about to witness. Oh so quietly, Slim watched his every move. He was so unsure to why George looked so eager and determined while running through the woods. All the sudden George stopped. Slim quickly did too but not quick enough. George heard a branch break. He immediately began to scan the area. Slim hid behind a large oak tree and held his breath. After a minute or two, he peeked over his shoulder to get a glimpse of George. What he saw left him speechless. George had pulled out a gun. He put it to his temple. Then began to count down. 5... 4... 3... 2... POP George fell with a thud. A ringing sound was heard throughout the entire forest. Slim ran over to him with the leaves crunching ... The foundation subjects in the national curriculum comprise of history, geography, modern foreign languages, physical education (PE), religious education, art and design, citizenship, computing, design and technology and music (DFE 2013, p7). All the foundation subjects have a place on the National Curriculum; however, for the purposes of this essay we will be focussing on the reasons for PE being an important part of the National Curriculum. The National Curriculum (DFE 2013, p5) states that every state funded school must offer a curriculum which is balanced and broadly based and which promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils at the school and of society and, prepares pupils at the school for opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life . It aims to give children the knowledge that that they need to be educated citizens and gives an outline of the core knowledge around which teachers can develop exciting and creative lessons to promote pupils knowledge, understanding and skills as part of the wider school curriculum (DFE 2013, p6). The key aims of PE on the national curriculum focusses on a healthy lifestyle developing competence across several physical activity areas and for children to be active for sustained periods of time and encouraging children to engage in competitive activities and sports (Smith 2014. P213). At Key Stage 1 the national curriculum states that pupils should develop fundamental ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Often it is believed that technology becomes worthless when one does not know how to use it. Without the internet or television millions of people would go without the news and events happening at the waking moment. Along with the advances in technology comes a great dilemma to be explored of when an overload of technology has been reached and may result in destruction of mankind. • 5. Victorian And Edwardian Briti A Place Rich Of Strict... Victorian and Edwardian Britian was a place rich of strict christianity alongside widespread poverty which resulted with a dangerous and damaging working structure, high rates of child mortality and a rigid and damaging class structure that was highly focused around child labour. The employment of children deprives them of childhood and a chance at education, interfering with their ability to attend school and educational institutions, while mentally, physically and emotionalling draining them. The lack of ceoncept of childhood resulted in chiren actively participating in work as soon as they were seen competent. Child labor interrupts a childrens cognitive development and can severly affect the childs social development because the lack of freedom is impacting on their chance to engage in social play and interacting with other individuals. Those who work many hours a week are at a higher risk to develop problematic social behaviours and turn to negative behavoirs as they age alongside poor preformance. [1] In these times there was a lack of education, especially to the female population as it wasn t deemed nessisary. Skills were passed down through generations as opposed to being learnt in schools. This often lead to protests declaring that children were being used for slavery and being stripped fo their adolescence and things that are vital for growth and understanding. Originated from Bassano del Grappa, more than 1600 years ago, the famous Italian drink Grappa becomes more and more famous all around the world. Not till 1960s, grappa transformed from a cheap provincial Italian drink into a World Wide known drink. Traditionally made from byproducts of the winemaking process (vinaccia): pomace, discarded seeds and stalks, Grappa was considered as a cheap and low quality drink for farmers and other lower class workers. Very similar with the French Brandies and Cognac, grappa is also a distilled beverage and can get up to 55 60 percent alcohol. • 8. Examples Of Foreshadowing In Of Mice And Men Of Mice and Men Essay by Elisabeth Laria The novel Of Mice and Men uses foreshadowing successfully to build tension towards the final tragedy. Foreshadowing is shown consistently throughout the novel in various ways including; the introduction of Curley s wife, Lennie s constant unawareness of his own strength, and Candy s dog being killed. These situations and scenes build towards the final tragedy of the novel effectively. Throughout the novel, Lennie is shown to love and care for various animals and people, however in each instance Lennie is shown to be unaware of his own strength, and inadvertently hurts the things he loves. This builds towards the final tragedy in the novel, as Lennie unintentionally kills Curley s wife, leading to George and Lennie s worst fears to be fulfilled. The first example of Lennie s unawareness of his own strength happens at the beginning of the novel, as it is revealed that he had killed a mouse. George seeing this as a stepping stone to what will happen explodes saying you always kill em (Of Mice and Men Steinbeck. J, 2006 page 14) During the novel, Lennie gets a puppy at the beginning it seems that Lennie has grown and can care for the puppy, which George sees as a sign of hope. • 10. Tale Of Two Cities Analysis Charles Dickens, a brilliant author back in the 1850 s, wrote A Tale of Two Cities in order to describe the similarities between the forces that led to the revolution and the oppression and unrest occurring in England. The French revolution impacts history because the time period in which it takes place is before and during the French revolution. The French revolution signifies the essence of a rapid change, nevertheless, this change tore France right at the heart, where all the government was functioning . The discrimination in the novel is shown through the ways the royalty and aristocracies live compared to the lives of the lower class. During the French revolution, the aristocrats were significantly prosperous than the poverty, as shown in the wine scene. The difference in classes is shown in a scene where the wine bottle breaks in front of a store, and peasants run to lick up the wine, (book one chapter five), without any disregard of the mud that is mixed within it. The breaking of the wine bottle affects the entire poverty class, All the people within reach had suspended their business, or their idleness, to run to the spot and drink the wine. The peasants were so poor they did not care about the wine being dirty, they were just happy to be capable of having a drink. In Tale of Two Cities there are 2 types of social classes due to aristocracy being the main idea to govern, This idea for centuries, was dictated by social and religious convention. The gap in the classes and the lack of care for peasants caused hatred among the peasants towards the aristocracy. For others, change disrupts what is routine and normal and makes what is new seem strange and unfamiliar. From 1598 1606, Don Juan de Orate colonized the Rio Grande area. The Spanish settlers came with more than just colonization on their minds. Orate and his men were hoping the area would prove to be a huge resource of gold and other valuable resources. Meanwhile, Spanish missionaries brought Christianity to the Indians (White, 6). Orate entered the area now known as New Mexico with a group made up of 130 families, 276 single men, 83 wagons and carts, 11 Franciscan Friars (and) 7,000 cattle herded by drovers on foot (Horgan, 161). At a celebration of the settlement, Orate asserted what he believed was a rightful claim to the land that was already occupied by Pueblo Indians. Before kneeling at a cross and asking God for the successful conversion of the native people, he said I take possession . . .of the lands of the said Rio Grande, without exception whatsoever, with all its meadows and pasture grounds and passes . . . and all its native Indians (Horgan, 165). The philosophers help determine why we obey, what morality is, how to create justice inside and outside society, the state of nature, equality, and the state of war. They distinguish how the people and government help create a well oiled society. Comparing Platoto Rousseau, the beginning of philosophy to a more modern perspective. In Crito by Plato, Socrates continues a speech of the Laws of Athens by appealing to a social contract that exists between the Laws and the citizens. By living in Athens, one must abide by the Laws of Athens. Since Socrates is in prison, if he were to try to escape he would be breaking the Law. Socrates lived in Athens following the Athenian Law up to this point. Socrates dismissed the possibility of exile, saying he would rather die than live outside of Athens. Though they offered the exile freely, to flee Athens when the Law no longer permitted him to do so. There is no reason or will for Socrates to break to Law now when he always agreed to follow them. The problem with this is that Socrates accusers have unjustly sentenced him by usig the Laws. The accusers viewed the Laws in their own perspective. By writing Crito, Plato hoped to distinguish them as a separate entity, making them something human toward which Socrates might be able to act unjustly. However, it may be hard to deem that the laws of a state from which the people who apply ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Frameworks In Greenwashing Businesses are facing increasing pressures from both internal and external stakeholders to be accountable and transparent, and to disclose the social, environmental and economic impacts of their activities through sustainability reporting (Klettner, Clarke Boersma 2014; Soderstrom 2013). Accordingly, there has been an increase in organisations claiming their voluntary commitment to the international standards and frameworks for corporate sustainabilitynamely, the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) s sustainability reporting guidelines (Klettner, Clarke Boersma 2014; Milne Gray 2013). This is not to say that frameworks such as the GRI do not endorse improvements in business reporting and accountability (Milne Gray 2013). Rather, it is the fact that the adoption of these frameworks solely relies on the voluntary commitment by businesses that reduces its effectiveness (Klettner, Clarke Boersma 2014; Milne Gray 2013). This same issue also extends to companies codes of conduct and certification schemes. Elsewhere, the introduction of the new IR framework by the IIRC (International Integrated Reporting Council) has been suggested to be a paradigm shift in the way corporations report their activities to stakeholders (Klettner, Clarke Boersma 2014; Soderstrom 2013). Until now, business reports primarily focused on TBL (Triple Bottom Line) reporting of economic, social and environmental impacts (Adams 2013). While some corporations have demonstrated a willingness to achieve higher standards of performance in corporate sustainability in line with international frameworks (such as the GRI), rarely do they produce reports which provide information on social and environmental issues to the same extent and quality as that of financial information (Boersma 2013; ... Did Merlin really exist, and if so, was he the dark magical wizard of legend or an image conjured up by superstitious townsfolk to explain occurrences they didn t understand? To answer this question, one should first look at the actual accomplishments of the figure Merlin. When was the character introduced and what did he do afterwards? What kinds of feats did this person accomplish to make him as well known as he is? Secondly, Merlin was well known as a mythical figure. How did this mythical figure emerge and what aspects of his life do we still remember to this day? As the son of a devil, was Merlin an evil characteror a good... As a magician, Merlin performed feats such as the moving of Stonehenge, the disguising of Uther Pendragon, and the crowning of King Arthur by the use of the sword in the stone (Fletcher 25). As a prophet, Merlin told of the defeat of the Saxons, the death of Arthur, and the one who found the Holy Grail. Almost everyone knows the story The Sword in the Stone by T.H. An incubus came and bedded with Merlin s mother so that she would bear his child (Ackerman 168). Do you believe Apple was effective in neutralizing the threats and capitalizing on the opportunities posed by the forces in the smart phone industry? If yes, explain how. If not, explain why not. The industry analysis of the smart phone industry could be performed using Porter s five forces framework. This framework involves describing the bargaining power of buyers, bargaining power of suppliers, threat of new entrants, threat of substitutes and rivalry among existing firms in the industry as well as explaining the impact of these forces on industry s profitability. Following is a description of these five forces in case of smart phone industry, explanation of how these forces are likely to affect industry profitability and an analysis of how Apple strategically neutralized the threats and capitalized on the opportunities posed by these forces. Firstly, consider the bargaining power of suppliers. The suppliers in the smart phone industry had strong bargaining power because they were specialist, i.e. providing exclusive supplies and services and also few in number as is stated in the case; The supplier who captured most of the value in the smart phones was Qualcomm, which largely controlled CDMA (3G) and LTE (4G) the two most important protocols for wireless service. By preventing the execution of code from the stack segment, this problem is eliminated. Approaches that use a better programming methodology are typically built around the use of bounds checking to guard against buffer overflows. • 22. Visual Acuity Research Paper What is visual acuity? Visual acuity is commonly referred to as the clarity of vision and is dependent on both optical and neural factors, such as the sharpness of the retinal focus in the eye, the health of the retina, and the sensitivity of the brain. One aspect of visual acuity is the ability of recognizing and discriminating the colours of the visible spectrum of light. There are two types of cells involved in vision: rod cells and cone cells. Rod cells are highly sensitive cells that allow for low acuity vision in dim lit environments, however they lack the detail and colour information. Cone cells are high acuity cells that provide colour information in well lit environments. Rod cells provide more convergence than the cone cells which results in their increased sensitivity but also results in the decreased acuity. Physiology behind differences in visual acuity in men vs women It is generally believed that woman have higher discriminatory abilities with respect to naming of colours, which often implies they have superior colour vision. I have decided to study in and focus on Erik Erikson s theory of psychosocial development. He takes a closer look on the choices that we are forced to deal with and the conflicts they make during different parts of their life. His theory has eight theories, there are different types of problems and conflicts with each stage that an individual will encounter and have to resolve. It s important to deal with these conflicts that are presented to the individual during the stages, because if they are not taking care of the individual will end up struggling with them later on in life. Erikson has a developmental process that explains the development between infancy to adulthood. He explains this within 8 stages; during these stages the individual experiences crisis which could have a positive or a negative outcome on the person s personality. Erikson is known as an ego psychologist focusing on culture and society and the conflicts that can take place with someone s ego (McLeod, S). The first stage is trust vs. mistrust this occurs during the first year of life where the infant is uncertain about the world and they have to develop feelings. The infant finds hope in trusting someone, and has to figure out who they will choose not to trust. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. The Strange Death Of Silas Deane Summary Studying history can be an active, often arduous process, dependent on making assumptions with the evidence available and proving those assumptions to be correct or otherwise. But it can also be an easy task if done incorrectly, one of cutting corners and assuming falsehoods to be true for the sake of convenience. This is the way that many historians, amateur or professional, approach history. Not only does this approach exclude any possibility for well constructed conclusions to be made, it can also leave the populace ignorant of the truth. In The Strange Death of Silas Deane , James West Davidson and Mark Hamilton Lytle argue that history is not merely the act of collecting data rather of making assumptions about the data through the use of countless rhetorical questions, paragraphorganization, and a sardonic tone. The Strange Death of Silas Deane retraces the story of Silas Deane, an early American politician, and the events that led up to his death. The authors begin by revealing the conclusion that most historians have made about the case: Deane committed suicide. Then, they steadily disprove that conclusion with a myriad of facts and interpretations. The essay provides a thorough recount of Deane s life and argues that Silas didn t commit suicide rather, he was murdered. To give weight to this hypothesis, the authors draw from reserves of knowledge about Deane and his closest friend, Edward Bancroft. After investigating Bancroft s life and his relationship with ... The company law of the U.K is similar to the company law of the U.K because they share a common origin. The managers in both countries have a fiduciary duty to the shareholders. In other words, they have a strong requirement to act in the interests of shareholders. The channel through which shareholders exercises control of company affairs is the board of directors. The board is elected by shareholders and typically on a one share vote basis. Sometimes multiple classes of shares exits, the main difference between classes being the number of votes each share has attached to it. It is rare that the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is not on the board. In both U.S and U.K the CEO often acts as chairman as well. Once elected the board of directors of directors specifies the business policies to be pursued by the firm. The role of management is to implement the policies determined by the board. The problem arises in PPFA s prevention of unintended pregnancies, particularly abortion. But abortion is not the only issue the public finds in the organization. The public has recently questioned PPFA s integrity and motives as their controversial actions are exposed. Although plenty of people know of Charlie Chaplin, most do not know any real information about him. Charlie Chaplin has been a major contributor to America s advancement in the filmindustry from his innovative beginnings, and perseverance to improve and succeed, to his overall achievements in history. Charlie Chaplin was born in South London on April 16, 1889. He was the first child of Hannah and Charles Chaplin. Charles was vaudeville actor. Hannah was a vaudeville singer. Charlie s father was a drunk and he later left his family when he was three years old when he found out his wife had an affair with another actor, Leo Dryden. They soon had a child named George, who left to live with his father. Since Hannah was now a single mother, she was struggling to find a way to provide for her children. She had another son that was older than Charlie, from a previous relationship (Schwartz). Hannah s singing alone was not enough to earn her the money to care for two boys. She took up sweatshop work on a sewing machine she rented to earn extra income. Due to the small amount of income they had, Charlie s family moved in and out of orphanages and boys homes on a regular basis. Hannah s career as a singer ended abruptly in 1894. Many great socio political movements of the world have focused from time to time on unjust laws eg Apartheid laws in South Africa and Caste laws in India. This is mainly happening because of the carbon pollution spreading throughout the atmosphere caused by burning fossil fuels. Carbon dioxide and many other chemicals released into the atmosphere act like a blanket which traps the heat of the sun and causes the planet to get warmer. From 2000 to 2009 it was the hottest decade in the past 1,200 years (according to the National Climate Assessment). This is changing everything about Earth, from land, atmosphere, oceans, and ice. This causes extreme weather, polluted air, wildlife extinction, and even diseases due to the warmer weather. As sea and land experience fast changes, the organisms that inhabit them are challenged if they do not adapt fast enough. Many freshwater, land, and ocean species are moving to colder climates in order to escape the heat. They are also changing migrational patterns and seasonal behaviors. Each team tosses the bocci balls as close to the pallina ball as possible. How to play: 1.)Divide players into two teams of one, two or four players each. Each team gets four balls, divided equally among the players. A coin toss determines who will play first. 2.)To start the game have a player from the starting team stand behind the foul line (which is 10 feet from the throwing end of the court) and throw the small ball, or pallina, toward the opposite end of the playing surface. The same person who tossed the Pallino then throws the one Bocce Ball trying to get it as close to the Pallino as possible without touching it. 3.)The next team then throws one ball trying to get closer than the first team. • 40. John Okada s No-No Boy The United States of America a nation known for allowing freedom, equality, justice, and most of all a chance for immigrants to attain the American dream. However, that America was hardly recognizable during the 1940 s when President Franklin Roosevelt issued Executive Order 9066, ordering 120,000 Japanese Americans to be relocated to internment camps. As for the aftermath, little is known beyond the historical documents and stories from those affected. Through John Okadas novel, No No Boy, a closer picture of the aftermath of the internment is shown through the events of the protagonist, Ichiro. It provides a more human perspective that is filled with emotions and connections that are unattainable from an ordinary historical document.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... More importantly, it makes Ichiro loathe himself more because he feels as though being a No no boy makes him incapable of being American since he is not deserving or capable of walking around proudly like the veterans. Unlike the veterans, Ichiro finds himself unable to prove that he is American which leaves him with his Japanese identity. However, it is that same Japanese identity that got him interned, imprisoned, harassed, and in the position that he is in now. Above all, what is clearly visible is that there is not only a separation within the nation but a separation within the entire Japanese community. The differences in Ichiro s family contributed to his self hatred and seemingly lost identity. To him, he was the emptiness between the one and the other and could see flashes of the truth that was true for his parents and the truth that was true for his brother (Okada, 19). He did not want to be Japanese because he did not know the language and was consumed with anger and hatred towards his parents because even they weren t any less Japanese even after living in America for thirty five years, thus utterly rejecting America (Okada, 19). In addition, his mother s defiance of the reality of Japan s loss in the war and their inability to go back to Japan as she hoped for, as well as his father s lack of control and courage only increases his desire to not be Japanese. • 41. Hydrogen Batteries And Fuel Cells Introduction Batteries/Fuel Cells Fuel cells operate via a chemical reaction which generates electricity. All fuel cells contain a positive anode, a negative cathode and an electrolyte to carry the charged particles through the cell. They also contain a catalyst which will increase the rate of the reaction occurring. The electricity produced can then used to power various appliances. This, in turn, creates a circuit with the current continually flowing in and out of the cell until the reaction ceases . Recently the development metal air batteries (which can be produced from a range of metals from Aluminium to Zinc Primary and Secondary Batteries) have become very important. They are used to power electric vehicles and other... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This coupled with the fact that there is no shortage of Magnesium on the planet means that the resources, although finite, are unlikely to run out and so Magnesium is an ideal material to use. Also the properties of the metal, such as reactivity, toxicity etc are ideal for this applicationi. Materials Involved in the production of Magnesium Air Batteries Anode As mentioned previously the anode is composed of Magnesium metal (atomic weight 24.312 ) and is oxidised to produce electrons. The reason this metal is used because it is lightweight, cheap and has a high standard potential. These fuel cells are also generally very durable and can be easily stored. Easy storage is made possible by the fact that a protective film is naturally produced over the positive anode. However this decreases once some of the energy has been released from the cell. Hence it is not ideal to be used in a situation where over a long period of time there are times when the cell is not being used. This is part of the reason why lithium batteries are ... Macroeconomics looks at the bigger picture and involves the study of the economy as a whole. National income Let us start by looking at a simple example a two sector economy made up of households (consumers) and firms (producers) and use this to develop the idea of national income. To start with we will ignore the impact of government policy and overseas sectors. Households ultimately own the factors of production, e.g., labour, materials and capital, and supply these factors to firms who use them to produce goods and services. In return households earn rewards for supplying the firms with the factors of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Investment (I) production of, or expenditure on, non consumption goods (carried out by firms) including expenditure on increasing stocks of consumption goods. Injections expenditure on domestic output not originating from consumers e.g., investment. Leakages income not spent on consumption of domestic output e.g., savings. Consumers will not spend all their income on goods and services. They will also have savings income not spent on consumption. Similarly producers will not just spend on producing goods but will also carry out investment expenditure on non consumption goods. There are therefore injections into (investment) and leakages from (savings) the circular flow. These injections and leakages can now be added to the circular flow model (see Figure 2) Figure 2 Notes to Figure 2 In this model the income earned by households (Y) must be equal to expenditure on purchasing national product (E). Output of consumption goods by firms equals consumption expenditure by household s (C). Note that households do not spend all their income instead they save (S) a leakage. Expenditure on non consumption goods by firms is investment (I) an injection. Income (Y) = Expenditure (E) Income ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, many of us are not sure what job really fits us. At the beginning of college, I was not sure what career I wanted to pursue. My counselor suggested that I enroll in General Studies , which would give me the requirements I needed, no matter what career I chose. As a collegestudent like me, it is really hard to choose between two careers.
