Examples Of Suspense In Truman Capote
The author Truman Capote reconstructs the slaying in 1959 of a farm family in Holcomb, Kansas
which created a media frenzy and the investigation that led to the capture, trial, and execution of the
killers, Capote generates suspense and empathy, the Clutter family is murdered by Dick Hickcock and
Perry smith. A majority of the book is primarily about how they go on a run together, get arrested, and
spend their time in jail. Dick and Perry are actually quite opposite. Perry had an unfortunate
childhood; his mother was an alcoholic who died when he was young. His father was quite abusive,
and he had been moved around a lot. When he was transferred to the orphanage, he was beaten and
bullied by the nuns. This is one of the reasons how Capote ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Until Hickock and Smith have been captured, the reader only knows that the four bodies were
discovered on the morning after the crime by the neighbors who had went to take Nancy Clutter to
church. Up to this point the reader has been left in suspense regarding what actually happened.
Protagonist
We learn a lot more about Perry s life than any other character in the book. We learn so much about
his accountabilities, his childhood abuse for example. You can t help but feel sympathy for this
miserable kid who thinks he could have been someone in life. He tried in a pathetic and kind of sad
way to better himself, for example memorizing fancy words. If it weren t for the whole murdering a
whole family thing.
But all protagonists need an antagonist, and who is Perry s antagonist? In my opinion its actually
Perry himself. He s the evil he can t conquer.
Also Agent Alvin Dewey can be considered an antagonist. He s a hero we can truly root for. He vows
to track them down if it takes the rest of his life and he spends the rest of the book constantly and
aggressively doing just focusing on that specific case. Perry s confession to Dewey about the night of
terror and brutality at the Clutter home is 100% the centerpiece of the

The Role Of Justice And The Pursuit Of Righteousness
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was and still is one of the most prominent figures in world literature,
especially in the mystery genre. While many works of literature belong in the mystery genre, Sir
Arthur Conan Doyle s Sherlock Holmes series stands out the most. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle s famous
literary works, A Study in Scarlet, The Hound of the Baskervilles, and A Scandal in Bohemia share a
common theme: the importance of justice and the pursuit of righteousness.
Sir Conan Arthur Doyle was born on May 22nd, 1859 in Edinburgh, Scotland. The Doyles were
originally from London, but Arthur s father Charles Altamont Doyle and mother Mary Foley Doyle
moved to Scotland to pursue Charles career in architecture. Arthur pursued a degree in medicine at the
University of Edinburgh, where he became bored of the subject and excelled instead in sports. Yet, at
the University of Edinburgh he met who would later be the model of the famous Sherlock Holmes, Dr.
Joseph Bell. College was also where Doyle became disenchanted by organized religion, which can
also be seen in his stories later on in his life.
After graduating medical school he struggled to make a living out of being a doctor, and released his
first short story A Study in Scarlet in 1886. Because of troubles involving ownership of the novela, he
only earned £25 from it. Doyle continued to write Sherlock Holmes stories, and after gaining much
public adoration and financial stability, Doyle initially finished the series in 1893. After

Virtuality as Representation
The most important error [generally committed] is the reduction of reality to actuality and virtuality to
possibility: as if the actual and the virtual were the given and the pre given, respectively (Doel Clarke,
1999) From since the 1970s computers have opened new ways of virtualization where the human
brain is assisted in forecasting extremely complicated, and even inherently complex systems. At the
beginning of the 1990s the commercialization of the internet as an international network determined
the popularization and incorporation of virtuality into every aspect of modern life, creating a pervasive
cyberspace. This paper presents a collection of meanings of the term virtuality and develops, though
the implications in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If a virtualization is destined to observation it is often because the observer, or the researcher, cannot
easily expect the evolution of a system [15]: on his behalf the computer takes into account all the
variables those that will determine the evolution of the virtual system and produces results in terms of
forecasts or data synthesis. It is important to note that the results are only relevant as far as the
virtualization is good: in other words, the premises that constitute the basis for the virtualization must
be good enough to provide knowledge applicable in the real world. This characteristic is shared by
every kind of representation and it s explicit whenever a limit of validity is reached such as newtonian
physics compared to general relativity but for virtualization it s somewhat easier to forget that the
predictions calculated by the computer do not reflect reality but, instead, depend on the programmers
and designers that developed the virtuality. Virtuality as a kind of representation can have very
specific and mundane purposes: in every day life we have the example of weather forecasting, which
use virtualization of winds and pressure to determine the outcome of cloud movements and the general
state of the atmosphere. Virtualizations can also be multidimensional and based on partly arbitrary
hypotesis, such as the World3 model a computer simulation of interactions between population,
industrial growth, food production and limits

The Ethical Debate Surrounding Eugenics
Abstract
The term and concept of Eugenics was introduced into our society dating back to the year 1883, by
Francis Galton, cousin of Darwin (Harvard Law Review, 2004). Since that year, throughout history
and into our current time the study and debate surrounding Eugenics has taken many forms, but
controversy as society developed a better understanding of its concept, has grown in epic proportions.
Today we are subjected to constant debates of the pros and cons of Eugenics and its study and use in
healthcare today. Discussed in the following pages will be the definition and application of Eugenics,
and how Eugenics has developed the debate regarding the pros and cons of its use in the healthcare
industry, and how these debates have tested the ethics of healthcare and its professionals in many
ways.
Keywords: eugenics, ethics, controversial eugenics The Ethical Debate Surrounding Eugenics
To first understand the ethical debate surrounding Eugenics, one must understand the definition of
Eugenics and how it is perceived in our current society versus how it originally viewed upon its
conception. The theory of Eugenics and the term Eugenics dates back to 1883. Eugenics is defined as
the science utilized towards using the control of discouraging the reproduction between those that
were considered undesirables in society. This was encouraged to reduce the number of such
undesirables that are present in society, based on genetic defects, or undesirable traits (Genetics

Papa Burrito Research Paper
Awesome Stacked Papa Burrito
Last week I ate at Acapulco and enjoyed a delicious 12 inch Papa Burrito. The cheesy smell made my
nostrils dance. The beefy aroma made my mouth water. The Chile Verde smothered on top of the
burrito tingled my nose. The rice had an essence of chicken broth and all these ingredients were inside
a soft flour tortilla.
The Papa Burrito looks very large and wide with a lot of flavor inside. I grab a fork and when I cut
into the burrito I saw a mound of beef with melted cheese dripping off from the fork. Surrounding the
burrito was the orangey rice and brownish warm beans on the right of my plate was a pile of fresh
green lettuce topped with a reddish slice of tomato. The whole burrito was topped with a cheesy white

The Popularity Of Professional American Football
While the Popularity of professional American football has grown to unbelievable numbers across of
America, the effects on the brain health of the game s players have led to people asking if it is worth
it. For a long time, the game of American professional football has been a love for many Americans
and even a lot of people that do not live in America. For a lot of people, the game has been all over the
TVs in their homes for a long time and has been a source of joy and a reason to get together and
socialize and celebrate. Many of the teams today have built large stadiums that are partly paid for by
these same fans. For example, when the Pittsburgh Steelers were building their new stadium, they

On any given Thursday night, Friday night, Saturday, Sunday, or Monday night, it is not hard to find
groups of people that have gathered to enjoy the game of professional American football. All of this is
taking place in a time where concussion or head injuries have begun to gain attention at every level of
the game. As more and more games are being played, we are beginning to see more and more
concussion injuries on the playing field. While we think that this would scare people, the popularity of
the game continues to be at great levels.
The Birth of the Game of American Football
The National Football League (NFL) is the professional football league that most people recognize as
the giant of American football. However, the game did not begin with a professional level. The first
ever game of football that was played happened on the college level on November 6, 1869. It took
place in New Brunswick, New Jersey and was a game that put Rutgers University against Princeton
University. The two schools are located only 20 miles from each other.
At that time, players were not allowed to pass the football in the air or run with it down the field. The
only way to move the ball down the field was by batting the ball or dribbling it kind of like you were
playing soccer. There were no

The Medieval Period Of The Middle Ages
During the Middle ages countless disputes over power occur. From corrupted government officials, to
establishing a proper structure for Roman Catholicism. However, one can argue whether it s good or
bad intentions with great powers comes great responsibility. The Medieval period began from the 5th
century when the Western Roman Empire collapsed, to 15th century. During the Medieval Period the
Roman Church was the dominated church. The church controlled religion, philosophy, morals,
politics, art and education. In addition, many practices from the Middle Ages laid the foundations to
today s modern world. Charles the Greats of the franks, also known as Charlemagne was a Medieval
Emperor during 800. Ruling majority of Europe by spreading the outbreak of religion and culture.
Charles the Great was a man of knowledge, as he was fluent in Latin, he studied Greek and liberal
arts, giving him personality as a scholar. Unlike his predecessor Charlemagne supported education,
one of his goals was to provide an educated clergy. The educated clergy was usually a group of
religious servants, performing administrative duties for the government. Furthermore, to continue
Greco Roman cultural legacy he made Christianity the domain religion in regions of Western Europe.
However, Charles the Great was challenged as Emperor of the Romans because Emperor of the
Romans rightfully belongs to Carolingian family. Yet in the act into reviving the Roman Empire, Pope

Essay on Sir Francis Drake
Sir Francis Drake
Sir Francis Drake is known for England s defeat of the Spanish Armada. He was a sea dog and he
sailed around the world. Drake was actually the first one to sail around the world since Magellan died
in his journey. Drake was a sea dog during the reign of Queen Elizabeth the first. And as everyone
knows this is a good time to be a sea dog because the queen highly supported them. She gave him
money and ships to raid the Spanish shipping. Drake was the most feared sea dog in his time. He didn
t have a very exciting life when he was younger but he did grow up sailing on short trips on the
English coast. Since a young age he knew he wanted to be on the water. When he was older he sailed
on countless voyages. From ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then he went into the town and looted them. They hated him from then on. And the Spaniards started
to call Drake The Dragon . On December 13,1577 Drake started his voyage around they world. This is
probably his most famous voyage. He brought 160 men with him and they headed for land in the
Pacific Ocean. He hoped to find Australia. He was also looking for a western outlet of the Northwest
Passage. Drake and the queen planned to rob Spanish ships and colonies along the Pacific coast of
South America. The ships went down the tip of South America through the Magellan strait. They
sailed up the coast of South America robbing a few more ships and colonies. Sailing the Pacific coast
of north America he stopped for supplies and met some people that were really nice and treated them
good so they decided to claim it for England and share it with these people( they did not specify what
culture they were). Drake planned on returning through the Magellan Strait but because Drake was not
very well like by the Spanish so he decided to go home through the Pacific Ocean and the Indian
Ocean. He didn t want to run into any problems. This meant that he was going to sail around the
world. He stopped at the Philippine islands for more supplies and made a couple other stops along the
way. He finally returned to Plymouth in September. After almost three years on the water he returned
home and was made a national hero. King Phillip the second was very

Longing For The Sea Green Deep
Longing for the Sea Green Deep Love, like anything else, is born irrevocably from chance. The
infinite decisions made each day by each person are what govern the world and it s from this mess,
this entanglement of choices that we then make our own. All of human history is wound up in itself,
and no one event can accurately be viewed in isolation. To trace a line from the beginning of time to a
single occurrence and describe that chain as inevitable would be an impossible task. But with this
model of coincidence and a fundamental lack of recurrence everything is, as Kundera would put it,
unbearably light. How can we possibly find any meaning, any truth, any beauty in a world filled with
insignificances so light that they may as well have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Kundera correctly points out, there s something unbearable in the thought that a love that feels so
necessary could just as easily have never have occurred at all. Tomas gives us two opposing ideas,
there s the Es muss sein that he looks for in his love with Tereza, but also the phrase Einmal ist
keinmal...(What happens but once, might as well have not happened at all) (8). For Kundera,
coincidence is proof of lightness, since the singularity of experience is lightness, and coincidence
betrays that singularity, telling us that in any alternate turn of events (a different coincidence) things
could have gone a different way. He presents two systems, one in which fate controls our actions, and
a greater meaning exists, and another in which our lives are meaningless because of their abrupt and
coincidental nature. This second system is the one Kundera tells us exists, but just like Tereza and
Tomas, Kundera tells us we re driven toward the meaning fate provides: We all reject out of hand the
idea that the love of our life may be something light or weightless; we presume our love is what must
be, that without it our life would no longer be the same; we feel that Beethoven himself, gloomy and
awe inspiring, is playing the Es muss sein! to our own great love (35). What we want in life, and in
love, more than anything else is

Silence In The Chosen
No one can truly understand sympathy until they have suffered. In his The Chosen, a postmodern
novel, Chaim Potok surveys the meaning of compassion learned through suffering. Danny Saunders, a
brilliant Hasidic Jew, lives in Williamsburg, Brooklyn along with his friend, Reuven Malter, in the
1940s. With his photographic memory, Danny aspires to become a psychologist, but he knows that he
will have to inherit his father s position as the rabbi of their community. In addition to this, his father,
Reb Saunders, will not speak to him about anything other than the holy book of Talmund. Danny is
forced to keep his ideas and experiences to himself, leading to him suffering because of this silence.

As he talks to Reuven about the silence between him and his father, he remarks, ...you can listen to
silence and learn from it... I feel myself alive in it. It talks. And I can hear it... It has a strange,
beautiful texture... sometimes it cries, and you can hear the pain of the world in it. It hurts to listen to
it then. But you have to (249). Danny begins to understand what silence teaches him. He learns to
listen to the pain of others because he suffers himself. Moreover, as Danny is about to leave to
Columbia for college, Reuven describes, His beard and earlocks were gone, and his face looked pale.
But there was a light in his eyes that was almost blinding... There was a long, gentle silence (270).
Reuven notices that Danny is excited from the light in his eyes, and he now understands that silence is
gentle. Because Danny realizes why Reb raised him in silence, he is no longer confused about his
future. Likewise, when Reuven s father asks Danny if he will raise his own child in silence, he replies,
Yes, if I can t find another way (271). Although Danny anguishes, he plans on raising his child the
same way. He understands how silence taught him compassion, and he learns Reb s purpose for
raising him this way. Due to suffering, Danny understands how to listen to the world s problems

Essay on Immorality of Assassinating Political Leaders
More than thirty five political leaders have been assassinated since 1825. The assassin and the political
leader had different beliefs and ways they thought the government should have been run. It is thought
by some, that assassination is the wrong choice to make when it comes to differences in beliefs. There
are many reasons why people have different thoughts and actions on controversial subjects. Many
people believe that killing is the wrong choice to make because it goes against our legal system, and it
leads to social and political chaos. Lastly, killing is never justified based on religious beliefs. First, one
of the reasons many people believe that assassination is wrong, because it goes against our legal

The Chesapeake Colonies
Beginning 1625, the first colonies in America was established in the Chesapeake, New England, and
Carolina region. More than 250,000 European settlers came over to the colonies, along with 300,000
West African slaves. The colonial societies would become the area for gold, god, and glory. Some of
the colonies flourished while some struggled to survive.
To begin, the Chesapeake region consisted of two colonies: Virginia and Maryland. In 1584, Sir
Walter Raleigh went on an exploratory voyage with several men to Roanoke Island. Landing was only
temporary because they needed decided the island was fertile to support a settlement. A couple of
years later, John White came over with 117 men, women, and children to settle in Roanoke Island.

Organizational Leadership Analysis
The most communicated organizational need in the global business environment is organizational
leadership. Today, more than nine hundred universities and colleges exist to train, teach, and educate
those who wish to become leaders in the specific topics of organizational leadership. Moreover,
publications that inform benchmarks, best practices, and basic leadership concepts are becoming must
read material in the global organization. Even though leadership may be defined in many different
ways, the substance of the definition is similar. Leadership has been said to be a trait, an ability, skill,
behavior, and relationship (Leadership New Leadership Styles, 2016). No matter what leadership is to
the individual, leadership is needed and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, leadership traits may be altered by success when internalized by men and women in
moving an organization toward success. In any event, leadership traits may be categorized into the
most common, and likable leadership titles. These titles include: (1) Spiritual; (2) Servant; (3)
Transformational; (4) Authentic; and (5) Transactional. Depending upon the organization, the culture,
and the organizational environment, the leadership style needed or desired to move the business to
success is a critical decision. Organizations that lack leadership or lack the appropriate motivational
leadership tools will have difficulties in the global competition. Recognizing the lack of leadership
abilities may prevent organizational failure, unwanted staff turnover, organizational conflicts, reduced
productivity, and undesirable legal encounters.
Discussion
Using two distinctly different approaches in quantifiable research, one may compare and contrast
qualitative and quantitative leadership styles. By means of two measured studies, the one most
distinguish and one least advantageous leadership style may be determined. These studies may also be
used to predict the most productive leadership style for organizational growth. Additionally, determine
which leadership styles may be ruled out, or not used, due to lacking leadership traits. What ever the
outcome, this study begins with the quantitative leadership styles.

How To Overcome Influenza In 1918
Influenza is the most common disease that is called the flu. What caused the flu to start? What
happens when you get the flu? The flu is common to other diseases, too. People also get the flu mixed
with other diseases because of the symptoms. Symptoms are a big thing that people want to look for if
that person has the flu. So many names for just one disease. Why can t there just be one? The Spanish
flu is one of them which appeared in the European country in 1918. The flu spread far and wide

of the disease. The great flu pandemic of 1918 killed millions of people around the world. 40% of the

Texas Reflection Paper
Reflection Paper
Texas has been a one party state for nearly a century. Despite substantial changes in many areas
throughout history, Texas political culture is one area that has remained rather steady. Looking back as
far as the post civil war, until the late 1970 s Texas was considered a majority Democratic state. After
a century of post reconstruction, the Democratic Party were the victors of electoral dominance in all
levels of state government and in Texas representation in the national government as well (Edsall).
Texas social and economic make up was primarily rural and agricultural, which influenced the
political agenda. Through immigration attracted by the promise of a stable future in the oil and natural

Census Bureau the Anglo population has decreased from 66 percent in 1980 to 44 percent in 2015.
The expected change in the five year span from 2015 to 2020 is negative three percent. Hispanics
alone are predicted to be the new majority with Anglos only constituting a mere 27.5 percent of the
Texas population in the year 2050 (Jillson 17). Research has shown that minorities such as African
American, Asian, and Hispanic voters tend to have a liberal ideology. The Democratic coalition of non
white, young, and well educated voters continues to grow, as the Republican coalition of white, older,
and less educated continues to decrease (Wasserman). This change in demographics influences the
prediction of the demise of the Republican party s domination of Texas government. The support of
black voters is crucial to the success of the Democratic party, because most of the Democratic votes
are from the lower to middle class and African Americans make up a fair percentage of it, especially
when this ethnic group has just received thorough voting privileges. If the voter turnout or
partisanship of black voters were to drop from their current levels, the Democratic party would lose its
competition with Republican party, because most of the Republicans are upper class Americans that

The Problem Of Computer Network Security
Introduction
Computer network security has never been as critical as it is today. The news is littered with the
widespread incidents of hacking and cyber theft in the financial, entertainment, and retail industries,
and more recently in our military. A recent survey, conducted by Kaspersky Lab, a leader in endpoint
protection solutions, found that 94% of all companies surveyed experienced a cyber security issue
(Kaspersky Lab, 2014). Furthermore, a recent study has found that the average cost of a data breach to
a company was $3.5 million, a 15% increase from the previous year (Ponemon Institute, 2014). In this
day and age, the cost of a data breach, not only to a company s bottom line, but to their reputation,
would be extensive.
Statement of the Problem
Recently, Acme Corporation experienced a network compromise which resulted in the possible
compromise of the personally identifiable information (PII) of their employees and clients. As a start
up company, many technological issues were overlooked in the interest of getting the business off the
ground. Significant emphasis was placed on acquiring the most up to date and cutting edge hardware
and software, unfortunately, only mediocre consideration was placed on network security. This report
will examine the factors that contributed to vulnerability and will identify the solutions that must be
undertaken to secure the company network and protect it against future cyber attacks.

In the beginning of the story the narrator did not feel too good about the blind man in the first
paragraph he says that the only experience he has had with blind people was in the movies when they
were often the person that moved slowly and did not laugh. The narrator did not have such a positive
view on people that were blind because the narrator thought they were people that he could not relate
to and were for the most part simple. When the narrator s wife was talking about inviting the blind
man over she says the that the blind man s wife had just passed away and then mentions the name of
his wife Beulah the narrator then immediately asks if she is a negro. The words that the narrator uses
referring to the race of the blind man s wife indicates that he might have a bias or does not have a

The United Methodist Church Of Mishawaka, Indiana
Coalbush United Methodist Church is in Mishawaka, Indiana. The Indiana Conference church
development team selected Coalbush as a strategic location for potential growth. The church is located
right off of the US 20 bypass on the south side of Mishawaka. The city is slowly moving out toward
the country, which is how this church views itself: a country church. Mishawaka is not predicted to
experience great growth in the next ten years with the make up of a household having little change
either. The majority of the people are Anglo American with little diversity. This is a somewhat
traditional community where the majority of people report a sense of well being. The average
household income is approximately $60,000. The largest age group is between 35 55 years old.
I was appointed to Coalbush beginning July 1, 2016. I have been observing and serving as I attempt to
discover the unique context and setting for this local church in this season of their very long history.
The church mission and passion has been stalled for the last few years. The Coalbush United
Methodist Church entered a program about five years ago to help them evaluate their fruitfulness and
effectiveness of the church. It was determined that too much time was spent in meetings and not
enough time actually doing ministry. The church went through a three year process of attempting to
restructure and lessen the many other committees of the church. Missions, Outreach, Assimilation,

Hatchet Reading analysis At the start of the book Brian is a typical city boy who takes most things in
life for granted. After all the trauma he is forced to go through he sees everything differently. I think
that by the end of the book Brian has changed for the better and becomes a more appreciative person.
The reason that Brian changes is because of his plane crashing which results in him getting stranded in
the Canadian forest. The first mental change that Brian undergoes is after his pilot dies and he has to
land the plane. He manages to escape crashing in a lake, alive and without serious injuries. This made
Brian thankful just to be alive even though he was hurt and in the middle of nowhere. A quote from
Brian after the crash, I m alive. It could have been different. There could have been death. I could

process of finding food Brian learned how to be patient and how to observe. He also learned never to

My Personal Identity
Typically for most teenagers, it is difficult to define who they are as a person... but not for me. I would
not define myself in any particular context. I strive for the things I want in life, and do what it takes to
accomplish my goals. There are multiple categories I particularly focus on for my own benefits such
as, where I have chosen to attend college and the field I portray interest in majoring, how athletics
have impacted my life, and the reflection of who I have been throughout my seventeen years of life.
When analyzing those topics, I reflect on my past and use it as a reference for how I would like my
future to turn out. Throughout my life, I have had the ability to move over thirteen times, attend nine
schools, and engage in the world s diversity and different scenery when doing so.[E. Real life]
Ultimately when traveling and moving to various places, fashion has been the one thing that tends to
catch my eye. Between both traveling and fashion I have chosen to major in International Business
and become a buyer for fashion. Why do I admire fashion so much? I believe fashion is showing who
you are without the expression of voice. Being able to have the ability to travel around the world
selecting and purchasing various pieces of clothing, and trying to sell the items to large retailers by
using my voice of persuasion excites me.[DT: Question and Answer] I can t change the direction of

Examples Of Tension In 12 Angry Men
The small setting of the room, few props and the heat, along with camera levels, builds tension and
releases it throughout 12 Angry Men. Towards the beginning tension is put in to play as the setting of
film is in a small, un airconditioned room on a hot summer day. Throughout the film the jurors
comment on the weather which effects certain juror s moods. Juror number 7 says This is the hottest
day of the year. You d think they d at least air condition the place. The heat irritates and agitates most
of the jurors, resulting in clashes of moods, further adding to the tension. Throughout the film the
camera level goes from above eye level to eye level, increasing the tension by showcasing more
reactions and emotions during intense scenes.
The mise en scène when we first see the jury room creates a perfect setting for tension to build. In the
room, we see very few props, which helps make the room seem small. The room has a table with 12
chairs, ashtrays on the table, a fan on the wall, 2 overhead key lights, a few books, papers and another
small table. The jurors also can t leave until they either all decide to send an 18 year old to the electric
chair, or free. The men are all wearing jackets, even though the weather is hot and the heat makes
them sweaty and agitated. Many of the men are smoking, which might show they are agitated or
anxious. Early on in this room, tension starts to rise as juror number eight is the only one who votes
not guilty. This all happens in the

Looking for Answers in Looking for Richard Essay examples
Looking for Answers in Looking for Richard
Al Pacino s Looking for Richard is an unusual film. It is a documentary about the complexities of
Shakespeare, the performing of the play Richard III, and the ignorance of the average American
regarding Shakespeare. The unusual nature of the film it s similar to a filmed Cliff notes version of the
text provokes wildly different reactions from film buffs, critics, and Shakespeare purists. A perusal of
five different reviews of the film show such variant descriptors that range from Mary Brennan s
comment that the documentary is decidedly narcissistic to Edwin Jahiel s comment that the film is an
original, mesmerizing exploration. The rather wide incongruity between the reviews ... Show more

Part of the issue when perusing these reviews is to determine what the critic perceived the purpose of
Pacino s film to be. Brennan s hypothesis is that Pacino s primary objective is to find meaning in
Richard III, and the secondary objectives include creating an accessible version of the play the Mr. Joe
Average can understand, while portraying the acting process when faced with such a formidable text.
How a critic views the goals of the film directly relates to how well he or she believes Pacino achieved
these goals, so it is important to discuss them.
Dre, a Girls on Film critic, offers another similar conjecture as to what Pacino s goals for the film
were. According to the first name only Dre, the purpose of the film was to present a tribute to
Shakespeare, to explore the acting process, and to explain and portray a version of Richard III. Giving
the film the page s highest rating, it is obvious that Dre feels the film delivers on its goals.
In fact, much of Dre s words match quite closely with the reasons Pacino stated onscreen for making
the film to present Shakespeare in a more contemporary form for the average American. The popular
Girls on Film web page lives up to its name it presents twenty something young women (not
necessarily with film history degrees) discussing movies. The bright pink colors and Clearasil ads on
the page reveal immediately that the average

Soft Media And Soft News Media Essay
Just how influential are soft news outlets in informing the american people? I approached this topic
with an interest in the answer because soft news media is one of the early ways that I was introduced
to politics. It is through this medium of media that I have seen many people increase their political
participation. There have been some studies in this topic but I want to see how prevalent these studies
are to today s soft news media. One of the more useful resources that I had while writing this paper is
that of Matthew A. Baum. He has written many studies regarding soft news in the media throughout
the years. I believe that soft news outlets are a great way for the politically uninformed to become
better informed rather than watching the more hard news outlets. What does the term soft news
actually mean? Well one great way of defining it is as a style and genre that blurs the line between
information and entertainment. (Lisa Mills Brown 2014) A few examples of some of the more well
known soft news programs are The Daily Show and The Tonight Show hosted by a variety of anchors.
In my opinion, what makes these shows so popular is how each show is able to combine jokes and
lighthearted humor to news that would otherwise be serious. Accordingly, many people probably feel
the same way. By moving away from the more traditional hard news, people are probably looking
more towards soft news media as a way to get their daily political news. With a variety of different

How Did Galilei Contribute To Physics
Modern physics owes its beginning to Galileo, who was the first astronomer to use a telescope. By
discovering four satellites of the planet Jupiter, he gave visual evidence that supported the Copernican
theory (see astronomy). Galileo thus helped disprove much of the medieval thinking in science.
Galileo Galilei, who is generally known only by his first name, was born in Pisa, Italy, on February
15, 1564. His family belonged to the nobility but was not rich. His father sent him to study medicine
at the local university. Galileo, however, soon turned to a career in science.
In 1583 Galileo discovered the law of the pendulum by watching a chandelier swing in the cathedral at
Pisa. He timed it with his pulse and found that, whether it swung in a wide or a narrow arc, it always
took the same time to complete an oscillation. He thus gave society the first reliable means of keeping
time.
A lecture on geometry kindled his interest in mathematics, and he got his father s consent to change
his studies. Lack of money forced him to leave school in 1585, and he became a lecturer at the
Academy of Florence. The next year he attracted attention with discoveries in hydrostatics. His work
in dynamics won him an appointment as lecturer on mathematics at the University of Pisa in 1589.

Least effective Super Bowl Ad GoDaddy Bodybuilder
This was my least favorite as well as effective commercial for me from this year s Super Bowl ads. It
starts off with a bunch of body builders running led by Danica Patrick, the race car driver who s
wearing a black and neon green top and shorts muscle suit running towards a spray tan salon. She
knocks on the window of the salon and the ad ends with the punch line, it s go time.
First of all the commercial was too short, I thought it was teaser and it felt like an incomplete ad. Didn
t really understand the ad and had to watch it repeatedly to understand what the advertiser were trying
to say. Basically, the ad ends with owner of the spray salon saying, it s go time, while spraying a little
orange puff of tanning solution. This commercial is targeting smart small business owners and the
goal of this ad is to increase awareness for GoDaddy s web hosting services.
I hosted the Super Bowl party this year and most my friends thought it was the lamest ad they have
seen in years. This ad was the least effective because it wasn t entertaining, I personally don t like
seeing women with bulked muscles (gross) even though it was the famous racecar driver Danica
Patrick, and more importantly it wasn t noteworthy. It was too depressing, even with the celebrity
filled commercial it couldn t do it. I think for the amount ($$) paid, GoDaddy, could

Previously, when society thought about drug addicts, they pictured the homeless, the poor, the

that now drug addicts are working and living right next to each and every one of us, and most people
do not even realize it. These addicts are parents, children, siblings, friends, and coworkers. Many of
them are able to have jobs, have social lives, and are able to hide their addiction for quite some time. I

Themes of Hopelessness in Herman Melville’s Bartleby the...
We can never be one hundred percent certain of the validity of our literary analyses. This is especially
the case with Herman Melville s Bartleby the Scrivener . Critics have been trying for decades to make
sense of the text and most will describe it as inscrutable . I don t claim to know better than the critics,
but instead offer my own interpretation of the work. Based on my observations and analysis, Melville
s use of many elements in his story first and foremost the character of Bartleby, but also the dead
letters, the many walls of Wall Street, and the state of Wall Street itself works well to develop a sense
of hopelessness, whether intentional or not, in the story as well as the narrator and consequently the
reader. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He [the lawyer] refers to Turkey as a most valuable person to me (p. 22) and to Nippers as a very
useful man to me (p. 25). Even Ginger Nut, the office boy, is useful in that his duty as cake and apple
purveyor (p. 27) pacifies Turkey and Nippers and thus keeps them working. In other words, the lawyer
considers his employees useful insofar as he can exploit them and make money from their labor.
(Wilson)
Bartleby, however, who prefers not to do any work after a short period of working in the office,
greatly discourages the lawyer because he does not prove useful in any way.
As a further character development, Melville encourages the reader to consider Bartleby himself as a
type of dead letter (Weinstock). Bartleby doesn t serve the purpose he intended to when he refuses to
do work, in the same way the dead letters (1111) that Bartleby used to work with did not serve the
function they were intended for. It is important to note that in a dead letter office, the letters are
undeliverable and so they have their content destroyed. Bartleby would prefer not to do anything and
thus wasted away to death a drawn out process of content destruction. In this case the content refers to
Bartleby s soul (1098) and hope, and eventually, self.
We can expect that the lawyer s prolonged exposure to an attitude such

Social Norms In American Society
A social norm is defined as the rules of behavior that are considered acceptable in society. Throughout
American history, the rules regarding what is considered acceptable behavior has changed
tremendously. These behaviors haven t changed just once or twice, but many times over the span of
many years. Social norms can change quite often. There is a tremendous amount of behaviors we do in
modern America that would have never been considered acceptable years ago. American society has
changed significantly in consideration to social norms. Social norms that have changed excessively

There was once a time when premarital sex hardly ever existed, but that is not the case today. The age
of individuals taking part in premarital sex is declining, and people are partaking in sexual acts at
much younger ages. There is a highly unrealistic goal to encourage all Americans to abstain from sex
until they marry (Finer 2). This is a highly unrealistic goal; the amount of people having premarital
sex may lower, but getting all Americans to abstain is a nearly impossible goal. A 2002 survey showed
that seventy five percent of people aged 20 had premarital sex. The same survey portrayed participants
aged 44 and it showed that ninety five percent had sex before marrying. The survey showed that only
around three percent of people abstained until marriage (Finer 3). Premarital sex also differs in the
different sexes. Males were more likely to participate in premarital sex than women. This statistic is
still common today. Premarital sex seemed to play a major role in relationships all the way back to the
1940s, it just depended on what age they did the act. By age 44, almost all people, if not married, had
premarital sex (Finer 4). This is a social norm that seemed to stay relatively constant in American
society throughout history. Not being abstinent is something that individuals have been accustomed to.

Descriptive Essay On My Birthday Gift
My Birthday Gift Today is my birthday and right when I came home from school, my Dad said, Will, I

thought for a minute of just going to the Staples Center to see Steph Curry and Klay Thompson play.
Yes. I finally said. So I put my backpack away, got my Jersey on and we headed to Los Angeles. On

them read, Blake Griffin . Our seats were the best ones in the house and we were right next to the
floor. I saw Steph Curry walked right by me and I saw Klay Thompson and I gave him a high five.

The Theory of Planned Behavior
The Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) predicts an individual s intention to engage in a behavior at a
particular time and place ( Summary of theory of planned behavior. Abstract, 2016). It theorizes that
individual behavioral conduct is driven by behavior intentions, where conduct intentions are function
of three determinants: an individual mentality toward behavioral conduct, subjective standards, and
perceived behavioral control ( Summary of theory of planned behavior. Abstract, 2016).
Icek Ajzen Theory of Planned Behavior was proposed in 1985 through his article, From Intentions to
Actions: A Theory of Planned Behavior. The theory was developed from the Theory of Reasoned
Action , which was proposed by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The theory consolidates some of the focal concepts in the social and behavior sciences, and it
characterizes these ideas in a way that grants prediction and comprehension of specific behaviors in
specified contexts (Ajzen, 1991). Demeanors toward the conduct, subjective standards with regards to
the behavior, and perceived control over the behavior are typically found to anticipate behavioral
intentions with an increase level of accuracy. Thusly, these intentions, in combination of perceived
behavioral control, can represent an instinctive proportion of discrepancy in behavior (Ajzen,

Human Dignity in Relation to Universal Healthcare
Human Dignity is complex there is no solid definition but similar words such as value and worth arise
(ACU, 2014, 2.1.2) Many have different definition of what human dignity is these are two main
categories of what human dignity means to people: Category 1 Some understandings of human dignity
are based in the belief that it is something all humans already have, these are called Attributed Dignity
(Weisstub and Díaz Pintos, 2008, p 27) Because we are human, OR Humans have special attributes
making us better then all living things Category 2 Other understandings of human dignity are based in
the belief that human dignity is something that people can acquire (or lose) this is known as Intrinsic
Dignity (Weisstub and Díaz Pintos, 2008, p 27) Through their own sense of self worth OR Through
societies view and expectation of that person These categories are divide up into four sectors: 1A:
Humans have inherent worth simply because they are human. Many religious people hold this belief
as we are all created in God s image. Others claim we have priority over any other living thing on this
earth. 1B: Humans have inherent worth because they are distinctive and special. Through human
abilities (independent though that is rational and logical) makes us distinctive to any other species.
2A: People have dignity when I believe in my own worth. This takes into account the individuals
feelings, sense of pride and encouraging individuals to live a righteous life. 2B:

The Real Lesson of New Coke
The Real Lesson of New Coke: The Value of Focus Groups for Predicting the Effects of Social
Influence By Robert M. Schindler n April 1985, the management of Coca Cola Co. announced its
decision to change the flavor of the cotnpany s flagship brand. The events that followed from this
decision, as well as the faetors which led up to it, have been reviewed, discussed, and extensively
analyzed in the popular press, the trade press, and in marketing textbooks. Two books and at least two
marketing cases have been written on the events surrounding the flavor change decision. Also, a well
known, but somewhat older Harvard Business School marketing case deals with some of the key
events which led up to the decision. Despite the extent of this ... Show more content on

The Attempt to Reformulate Coca Cola T 22 he 87 year old rivalry between CocaCola, the traditional
market leader, and Pepsi Cola, the perennial runner up, took an unexpected turn in the mid1970s.
Pepsi s consumer research discovered in blind taste tests that a majority of consumers preferred the
taste of Pepsi over thai of Coke. In fact, even a majority of loyal Coke drinkers reported preferring
Pepsi in the tests. Decetnber1992 silver graphics replacing the traditional red and white look.
Clearly. Coke had decided to make sure that consumers would be aware that Coca Cola s flavor was
being changed. The initial reactions of most consumers appeared to be positive. Many bottlers
reported that sales of new Coke were greater than expected and. during the first few weeks after the
new Coke introduction, the company s weekly survey of 900 respondents showed consumers
preferring new Coke over old Coke by a margin of 53% to 47%. However, during this period, there
was also intense media coverage of those consumers who did not like the new Coke and were angry
about the change. In a number of cities, old Coke loyalists sponsored protest rallies and boycotts and
received widespread media attention. By June, it was becoming apparent to Coke s management that
consumer dissatisfaction with the reformulation was increasing. The stream of angry letters and phone
calls was becoming a flood, and weekly

Streetcar Named Desire
Scene X is arguably the most structurally and thematically significant scene of A Streetcar Named
Desire, presenting the final confrontation between Blanche and Stanley and concluding with Stanley,
in his brutal rape of his wife s sister, emerging as the undisputed victor. Williams uses language,
sound, visual symbolism and violent stage directions in this passage to explore all the play s key ideas,
thus securing it as the dramatic climax of Streetcar. One of the primary concerns dealt with in this
scene is that of death and desire, which has been a preoccupation of the play since its beginning. In
Scene I, Williams explicitly links sex and death as Blanche arrives at the Kowalskis having taken two
streetcars named Desire and Cemeteries . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Williams visual emphasis of fantasy and reality comes to the fore as Blanche, drunk and delusional
after her rejection by Mitch, imagines that she has received a telegram from an old suitor, Shep
Huntleigh, and that Mitch begged for her forgiveness . At the start of the passage she states she has
[cast her] pearls before swine , unwisely drawing once more on the image of Stanley as a pig; Stella
accuses him of making a pig of himself in Scene VIII, to which he retorts that she and her sister are a
pair of queens . It is also a biblical reference, suggesting the misplaced sense of superiority which
infuriates him so much that he determines to bring her fantasy crashing down. His onslaught begins
slowly, with the casual repetition in Swine, huh? and You did, huh? , but builds to the outright
condemnation of her stories as imagination and the tricolon lies and conceit and tricks . He assumes
the same judicial air as in his criticism of Blanche to Stella in Scene VII, only this time he does it to
her directly. He characterises her as a Queen yet again, mocking her as a kind of cheap Cleopatra and
foreshadowing her eventual tragic downfall; each accusation seems like a whiplash to Blanche, almost
pinning her to the wall until she is equally trapped by his words and physical presence ( Let me let me

Examples Of Suspense In Truman Capote The author Truman Capote reconstructs the slaying in 1959 of a farm family in Holcomb, Kansas which created a media frenzy and the investigation that led to the capture, trial, and execution of the killers, Capote generates suspense and empathy, the Clutter family is murdered by Dick Hickcock and Perry smith. A majority of the book is primarily about how they go on a run together, get arrested, and spend their time in jail. Dick and Perry are actually quite opposite. Perry had an unfortunate childhood; his mother was an alcoholic who died when he was young. His father was quite abusive, and he had been moved around a lot. When he was transferred to the orphanage, he was beaten and bullied by the nuns. This is one of the reasons how Capote ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. The Role Of Justice And The Pursuit Of Righteousness Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was and still is one of the most prominent figures in world literature, especially in the mystery genre. While many works of literature belong in the mystery genre, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle s Sherlock Holmes series stands out the most. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle s famous literary works, A Study in Scarlet, The Hound of the Baskervilles, and A Scandal in Bohemia share a common theme: the importance of justice and the pursuit of righteousness. Sir Conan Arthur Doyle was born on May 22nd, 1859 in Edinburgh, Scotland. The Doyles were originally from London, but Arthur s father Charles Altamont Doyle and mother Mary Foley Doyle moved to Scotland to pursue Charles career in architecture. Arthur pursued a degree in medicine at the University of Edinburgh, where he became bored of the subject and excelled instead in sports. Yet, at the University of Edinburgh he met who would later be the model of the famous Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Joseph Bell. College was also where Doyle became disenchanted by organized religion, which can also be seen in his stories later on in his life. After graduating medical school he struggled to make a living out of being a doctor, and released his first short story A Study in Scarlet in 1886. Because of troubles involving ownership of the novela, he only earned £25 from it. Doyle continued to write Sherlock Holmes stories, and after gaining much public adoration and financial stability, Doyle initially finished the series in 1893. After ... Virtuality as Representation The most important error [generally committed] is the reduction of reality to actuality and virtuality to possibility: as if the actual and the virtual were the given and the pre given, respectively (Doel Clarke, 1999) From since the 1970s computers have opened new ways of virtualization where the human brain is assisted in forecasting extremely complicated, and even inherently complex systems. At the beginning of the 1990s the commercialization of the internet as an international network determined the popularization and incorporation of virtuality into every aspect of modern life, creating a pervasive cyberspace. If a virtualization is destined to observation it is often because the observer, or the researcher, cannot easily expect the evolution of a system [15]: on his behalf the computer takes into account all the variables those that will determine the evolution of the virtual system and produces results in terms of forecasts or data synthesis. It is important to note that the results are only relevant as far as the virtualization is good: in other words, the premises that constitute the basis for the virtualization must be good enough to provide knowledge applicable in the real world. This characteristic is shared by every kind of representation and it s explicit whenever a limit of validity is reached such as newtonian physics compared to general relativity but for virtualization it s somewhat easier to forget that the predictions calculated by the computer do not reflect reality but, instead, depend on the programmers and designers that developed the virtuality. Virtuality as a kind of representation can have very specific and mundane purposes: in every day life we have the example of weather forecasting, which use virtualization of winds and pressure to determine the outcome of cloud movements and the general state of the atmosphere. Virtualizations can also be multidimensional and based on partly arbitrary hypotesis, such as the World3 model a computer simulation of interactions between population, industrial growth, food production and limits ... The Ethical Debate Surrounding Eugenics Abstract The term and concept of Eugenics was introduced into our society dating back to the year 1883, by Francis Galton, cousin of Darwin (Harvard Law Review, 2004). The infinite decisions made each day by each person are what govern the world and it s from this mess, this entanglement of choices that we then make our own. Tomas gives us two opposing ideas, there s the Es muss sein that he looks for in his love with Tereza, but also the phrase Einmal ist keinmal...(What happens but once, might as well have not happened at all) (8). For Kundera, coincidence is proof of lightness, since the singularity of experience is lightness, and coincidence betrays that singularity, telling us that in any alternate turn of events (a different coincidence) things could have gone a different way. He presents two systems, one in which fate controls our actions, and a greater meaning exists, and another in which our lives are meaningless because of their abrupt and coincidental nature. This second system is the one Kundera tells us exists, but just like Tereza and Tomas, Kundera tells us we re driven toward the meaning fate provides: We all reject out of hand the idea that the love of our life may be something light or weightless; we presume our love is what must be, that without it our life would no longer be the same; we feel that Beethoven himself, gloomy and awe inspiring, is playing the Es muss sein! to our own great love (35). Hispanics alone are predicted to be the new majority with Anglos only constituting a mere 27.5 percent of the Texas population in the year 2050 (Jillson 17). Research has shown that minorities such as African American, Asian, and Hispanic voters tend to have a liberal ideology. The Democratic coalition of non white, young, and well educated voters continues to grow, as the Republican coalition of white, older, and less educated continues to decrease (Wasserman). This change in demographics influences the prediction of the demise of the Republican party s domination of Texas government. The support of black voters is crucial to the success of the Democratic party, because most of the Democratic votes are from the lower to middle class and African Americans make up a fair percentage of it, especially when this ethnic group has just received thorough voting privileges. If the voter turnout or partisanship of black voters were to drop from their current levels, the Democratic party would lose its competition with Republican party, because most of the Republicans are upper class Americans that are typically of Anglo ... • 25. The Problem Of Computer Network Security Introduction Computer network security has never been as critical as it is today. The news is littered with the widespread incidents of hacking and cyber theft in the financial, entertainment, and retail industries, and more recently in our military. A recent survey, conducted by Kaspersky Lab, a leader in endpoint protection solutions, found that 94% of all companies surveyed experienced a cyber security issue (Kaspersky Lab, 2014). Furthermore, a recent study has found that the average cost of a data breach to a company was $3.5 million, a 15% increase from the previous year (Ponemon Institute, 2014). In this day and age, the cost of a data breach, not only to a company s bottom line, but to their reputation, would be extensive. Statement of the Problem Recently, Acme Corporation experienced a network compromise which resulted in the possible compromise of the personally identifiable information (PII) of their employees and clients. As a start up company, many technological issues were overlooked in the interest of getting the business off the ground. Significant emphasis was placed on acquiring the most up to date and cutting edge hardware and software, unfortunately, only mediocre consideration was placed on network security. This report will examine the factors that contributed to vulnerability and will identify the solutions that must be undertaken to secure the company network and protect it against future cyber attacks. After all the trauma he is forced to go through he sees everything differently. I think that by the end of the book Brian has changed for the better and becomes a more appreciative person. The reason that Brian changes is because of his plane crashing which results in him getting stranded in the Canadian forest. The first mental change that Brian undergoes is after his pilot dies and he has to land the plane. He manages to escape crashing in a lake, alive and without serious injuries. This made Brian thankful just to be alive even though he was hurt and in the middle of nowhere. A quote from Brian after the crash, I m alive. It could have been different. It is a documentary about the complexities of Shakespeare, the performing of the play Richard III, and the ignorance of the average American regarding Shakespeare. The unusual nature of the film it s similar to a filmed Cliff notes version of the text provokes wildly different reactions from film buffs, critics, and Shakespeare purists. Part of the issue when perusing these reviews is to determine what the critic perceived the purpose of Pacino s film to be. Brennan s hypothesis is that Pacino s primary objective is to find meaning in Richard III, and the secondary objectives include creating an accessible version of the play the Mr. Joe Average can understand, while portraying the acting process when faced with such a formidable text. How a critic views the goals of the film directly relates to how well he or she believes Pacino achieved these goals, so it is important to discuss them. Dre, a Girls on Film critic, offers another similar conjecture as to what Pacino s goals for the film were. According to the first name only Dre, the purpose of the film was to present a tribute to Shakespeare, to explore the acting process, and to explain and portray a version of Richard III. Giving the film the page s highest rating, it is obvious that Dre feels the film delivers on its goals. In fact, much of Dre s words match quite closely with the reasons Pacino stated onscreen for making the film to present Shakespeare in a more contemporary form for the average American. I approached this topic with an interest in the answer because soft news media is one of the early ways that I was introduced to politics. It is through this medium of media that I have seen many people increase their political participation. There have been some studies in this topic but I want to see how prevalent these studies are to today s soft news media. One of the more useful resources that I had while writing this paper is that of Matthew A. Baum. He has written many studies regarding soft news in the media throughout the years. I believe that soft news outlets are a great way for the politically uninformed to become better informed rather than watching the more hard news outlets. What does the term soft news actually mean? Well one great way of defining it is as a style and genre that blurs the line between information and entertainment. (Lisa Mills Brown 2014) A few examples of some of the more well known soft news programs are The Daily Show and The Tonight Show hosted by a variety of anchors. In my opinion, what makes these shows so popular is how each show is able to combine jokes and lighthearted humor to news that would otherwise be serious. Accordingly, many people probably feel the same way. By moving away from the more traditional hard news, people are probably looking more towards soft news media as a way to get their daily political news. With a variety of different ... By discovering four satellites of the planet Jupiter, he gave visual evidence that supported the Copernican theory (see astronomy). Galileo thus helped disprove much of the medieval thinking in science. Galileo Galilei, who is generally known only by his first name, was born in Pisa, Italy, on February 15, 1564. His family belonged to the nobility but was not rich. His father sent him to study medicine at the local university. Galileo, however, soon turned to a career in science. In 1583 Galileo discovered the law of the pendulum by watching a chandelier swing in the cathedral at Pisa. He timed it with his pulse and found that, whether it swung in a wide or a narrow arc, it always took the same time to complete an oscillation. He thus gave society the first reliable means of keeping time. A lecture on geometry kindled his interest in mathematics, and he got his father s consent to change his studies. Lack of money forced him to leave school in 1585, and he became a lecturer at the Academy of Florence. The next year he attracted attention with discoveries in hydrostatics. His work in dynamics won him an appointment as lecturer on mathematics at the University of Pisa in 1589. He soon made enemies with his arguments against ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is especially the case with Herman Melville s Bartleby the Scrivener . Critics have been trying for decades to make sense of the text and most will describe it as inscrutable . I don t claim to know better than the critics, but instead offer my own interpretation of the work. Based on my observations and analysis, Melville s use of many elements in his story first and foremost the character of Bartleby, but also the dead letters, the many walls of Wall Street, and the state of Wall Street itself works well to develop a sense of hopelessness, whether intentional or not, in the story as well as the narrator and consequently the reader. In other words, the lawyer considers his employees useful insofar as he can exploit them and make money from their labor. (Wilson) Bartleby, however, who prefers not to do any work after a short period of working in the office, greatly discourages the lawyer because he does not prove useful in any way. As a further character development, Melville encourages the reader to consider Bartleby himself as a type of dead letter (Weinstock). Bartleby doesn t serve the purpose he intended to when he refuses to do work, in the same way the dead letters (1111) that Bartleby used to work with did not serve the function they were intended for. It is important to note that in a dead letter office, the letters are undeliverable and so they have their content destroyed. The age of individuals taking part in premarital sex is declining, and people are partaking in sexual acts at much younger ages. There is a highly unrealistic goal to encourage all Americans to abstain from sex until they marry (Finer 2). This is a highly unrealistic goal; the amount of people having premarital sex may lower, but getting all Americans to abstain is a nearly impossible goal. A 2002 survey showed that seventy five percent of people aged 20 had premarital sex. The same survey portrayed participants aged 44 and it showed that ninety five percent had sex before marrying. The survey showed that only around three percent of people abstained until marriage (Finer 3). Premarital sex also differs in the different sexes. Males were more likely to participate in premarital sex than women. This statistic is still common today. Premarital sex seemed to play a major role in relationships all the way back to the 1940s, it just depended on what age they did the act. Many religious people hold this belief as we are all created in God s image. Streetcar Named Desire Scene X is arguably the most structurally and thematically significant scene of A Streetcar Named Desire, presenting the final confrontation between Blanche and Stanley and concluding with Stanley, in his brutal rape of his wife s sister, emerging as the undisputed victor. Williams uses language, sound, visual symbolism and violent stage directions in this passage to explore all the play s key ideas, thus securing it as the dramatic climax of Streetcar. One of the primary concerns dealt with in this scene is that of death and desire, which has been a preoccupation of the play since its beginning. His onslaught begins slowly, with the casual repetition in Swine, huh? and You did, huh? , but builds to the outright condemnation of her stories as imagination and the tricolon lies and conceit and tricks . He assumes the same judicial air as in his criticism of Blanche to Stella in Scene VII, only this time he does it to her directly. He characterises her as a Queen yet again, mocking her as a kind of cheap Cleopatra and foreshadowing her eventual tragic downfall; each accusation seems like a whiplash to Blanche, almost pinning her to the wall until she is equally trapped by his words and physical presence ( Let me let me get by ...
