Indoor Hydroponics
Abstract: This article focuses on Indoor Hydroponics, a fascinating method of soilless plant cultivation that allows people to pursue their gardening interests even if they don’t have one!
Hydroponics has made it possible now to cultivate several types of plants, fruits, and vegetables! This has contributed significantly to its popularity, for people can now feel the soothing effects of a beautiful garden right all year round, rather than just in the summer and fall seasons! Indoor Hydroponics include a several different methods, all of which easy to operate. Though the initial set up cost of equipment may be a bit high, once you have your system established, you will experience considerable efficiency and tidiness, as well as tremendous plant yields!
Indoor hydroponic systems do not take up a lot of space. The plants are cultivated using growing media that facilitates the supply of water based nutrients to the roots of the plants. Typical growing media includes gravel, coconut husk, gravel, and vermiculite. It should be noted though, that rather than standard fertilizer, there is a specifically manufactured on for indoor hydroponics.
Indoor hydroponic system can range from very basic, simple systems, to more technical and sophisticated ones; it just depends on your choice and desire. Generally speaking though, there is a growing tray or tube involved, that serve as a reservoir to hold the nutrition solution. Some systems may also involve a timer and pump to supply the nutrition solution to the roots of the plants. Additionally, it is required that there be a sufficient source of light, be it in the form of direct sunlight, a greenhouse, or special artificial growing light. Once you have set up your indoor hydroponics system appropriately, you can grow virtually any kind of plant, fruits, and vegetables.
If you want to use an extremely cost efficient and simple method to carry out indoor hydroponics, you may use a tray filled or bucket filled with the sand, and pour the water mixed nutrition solution over it at regular intervals. Alternatively, you can also use an old aquarium and place paper cups punched with holes at the bottom of the tank. The growing media is put into the paper cups, which are suspended in a Styrofoam or a similar material, and suspended on top of the nutrition solution. An air pump is used to provide oxygen in the water.
There are several advantages that may be attributed to indoor hydroponics, which are stated below:
Owing simply to the fact that you are gardening indoors, eliminates any concern about inclement outdoors weather conditions that may be unsuitable for gardening. You can continue growing your favorite plants all year round!
Since hydroponics does not involve soil anyway, indoor hydroponics further reduces the risk of pests and disease. Furthermore, the plants themselves will be prevented from bearing pesticides
Since hydroponics systems make it possible to recycle water or the nutrition solution, you will not have incurred large water bills!
Indoor hydroponic systems can operate fully automatically, which means that you can let your plants grow steadily while you attend to other chores
Finally, there would be absolutely no need for weeding or digging, tasks that can be rather back breaking with outdoor gardening!
So, if you live in an apartment, and do not own a personal garden, you no longer have to despair. Indoor Hydroponics allows you to pursue your hobby or interest in plant growing just as you could in your outdoor garden!
