ING bank is a Dutch multinational, multi-product bank that offers banking services to 33 million retail and commercial customers in over 40 countries. At this scale, ING naturally faces a multitude of data consolidation tasks across its disparate sources. A common consolidation problem is fuzzy name matching: given a name (streaming) or a list of names (batch), find out the most similar name(s) from a different list. Popular methods such as Levenshtein distance are not appropriate because of the time complexity and sheer volume of names involved. In this talk, we will introduce how we use a Spark custom ML pipeline and Structured Streaming to build fuzzy name matching products in batch and streaming. This can successfully match 8000 names per second against a 10 million name list, using a ten-node cluster. Firstly, we will give an introduction into the name matching problem. Secondly, we will explain why Levenshtein distance approach is limited, and demonstrate a faster approach; token-based cosine similarity matching. Next, we will show how a ML pipeline helps to build an elegant solution. Here, we will deep dive into the detail of each stage, including customized preprocessing, tokenization, term-frequency, customized inverse document frequency, customized cosine similarity with distributed sparse matrix multiplication, and a customized supervision stage. Finally, we will show how we deploy the ML pipeline within a batch data pipeline, and additionally as a fuzzy search engine in a streaming manner. Â The main conclusions will be: (1) a spark custom ML pipeline provides a powerful way to handle complicated data science problems (2) a uniform ML pipeline can serve both batch and streaming products easily from the same codebase.

Completeness metadata about RDF data sources has been proposed to provide a partial closed-world assumption over generally incomplete RDF. Wikidata, as one of the major RDF data sources, contains complete information of a range of topics from the cantons of Switzerland to the crew of Apollo 11. We developed a system of web data completeness annotation for Wikidata using simplified completeness statements, called the SP-statements. The SP-statement is representable in RDF and can be used to reason about completeness of a SPARQL query, completeness rating of a Wikidata entity or classes of entities. Previously at KMWorld 2021, EK joined JPL to share the vision, approach, and delivery of the Institutional Knowledge Graph (IKG), a centrally maintained, ever-evolving knowledge graph identifying and describing JPL’s enterprise-wide concepts, such as people, organizations, projects, and facilities, and the relationships between them. Since August 2020, the IKG has offered a single source of enterprise information that other JPL applications can leverage to reduce redundancy and out-of-date or inaccurate data. In production for 2 years and now with several releases under its belt, the IKG is beginning to fulfill its promise as a foundational layer in the semantic pyramid for additional taxonomies and knowledge graphs to build upon. At KM World 2022, Bess Schrader, Senior Solutions Consultant at EK, and Ann Bernath, Software Systems Engineer at JPL, shared a follow-up to the IKG journey including a description of the Enterprise Semantic Platform, a look at new taxonomies and knowledge graphs at JPL (enterprise-wide, others specific to engineering, technical, or science domains) and how they are beginning to leverage the IKG’s foundation of JPL concepts to enrich their dataset into a broader context. This presentation discussed different techniques to federate or synchronize multiple knowledge graphs and how these diverse integrations benefit not only the new datasets, but also the IKG as it continues to pursue its overarching dream--providing answers to questions such as, “Who did what when?”, “Who should you call?”, and “Where is the Robotics Lab?”

Abstract:- The Netflix data platform is constantly evolving, but at it's core, it's an all-cloud platform at a massive scale (60+ PB and over 700 billion new events per day), focused on enabling developers. In this talk, we'll dive into the current (data) technology landscape at Netflix, as well as what's in the works. We'll cover key technologies, such as Spark, Presto, Docker, and Jupyter, along with many broader data ecosystem facets (metadata, insights into jobs run, visualizing big data, etc.). Beyond just tech, we'll also dive a bit into our data platform philosophy. You'll leave with insights into how things work at Netflix, along with some ideas for re-envisioning your data platform.
