Since the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 all public bodies including parish councils and even individuals holding public office are charged with responsibilities (for which we can be held to account by Defra), to have regard to the purposes of AONBs in taking any decisions that affect land in an AONB. What are these purposes? To conserve and enhance the natural beauty of the AONB (which includes wildlife and cultural heritage as well as scenery).
