Managing yourself as a sucessful student winter 2014
Ideate
1. *English as a foreign language
How can my fellow EfL* teacher
reframe her priorities, so she can
succesfully fulfill her roles as
mother, teacher and a graduate
student ?.
She needs to make a list of all her activities and rank
them according their level of importance and time
consumption.
She needs to buy herself a time
planner
She must take her son with her to
work
She must spend all the time of
the day with her son and plan her
classes and do all her homework
during the night.
She must quit her job and just
take care of her son and her
studies.
She should hire a babysitter.
Every week she must a write a to
do list and cross out what gets
done.
She must plan ahead her classes
and dedicate one day at week to
her son.
She must look for people with the
similar problem in the Internet
and see how they cope.
She must take her son to her
mother’s everyday, so she can
study and plan her classes in
peace
She must take her son to her
mother’s everyday, so she can
study and plan her classes in
peace.
Eliminate time wasters
She has to plan ahead all her
activities for the next six months
at least.
She has to look for someone
who takes notes for her, so
she can skip some classes to
be with her son.
She needs to implement a reward
system in which she tricks herself
every time she meets the week’s
goals
She has to review how she spends her
time in order to prioritize her goals and
objectives.
She needs to get Hermione Granger’s time turner,
so she can bend the laws of physics at please.
She needs to carry a schedule
and record all her thoughts,
conversations and activities for a
week. So she can understand
better where her time goes.
2. Idea Selection: Out of all the ideas you generated, select three ideas according to the
following criteria:
i. the most practical idea (one that could be easily implemented)
She has to review how she spends her time in order to prioritize her goals and objectives.
Reviewing how she spend her time is very easy and it would allow her to understand what
activities are important and urgent what activities are important, but not urget, what activities
are not important or urgent
ii. the most disruptive idea (one that would make a huge impact, regardless of how feasible or
affordable it is)
“She must spend all the time of the day with her son and plan her classes and do all her
homework during the night.”
This is affordable, but it could be bad for her health.
iii. your favorite idea (one idea that you are excited about for whatever reason... you don’t
have to justify why)
She needs to implement a reward system in which she tricks herself every time she meets the
week’s goals.
Positive reinforcement is always good. However, in order this solution to work my colleague
would need to do a weekly of all her goals first.
