Venom

Sometimes the first impression can be the best impression something newcomer Joshua Whipday
has to pull off. With little on screen time it was quite a shock for someone so unknown to be playing
such a character known around the marvel universe. It’s his time to now be questioned receive
answers from this newcomer and how his new character pans out and how he feels about becoming
such a well-known villain in The Amazing Spider-Man reboots. If you haven’t heard by know this
character will be introduced into the reboot as Venom AKA Eddie Brock one of Spider-Man’s
greatest foes who will be answering our questions hold on my spidey sense is tingling... or are they?

So Joshua seeing as you’re the new kid on the block why don’t you tell us abit about yourself and
how you ended up becoming an aspiring actor?

Well it all started off when I was a kid, I used to be a huge fan of Marvel and the Spider-Man side of
the universe. I took up drama lessons out of school and attended University studying Drama. During
this time I managed to get small roles as extras and a small roles such as staring in Doctor Who the
same way Andrew Garfield did (plays as Spider-Man) so I decided to challenge myself and my agent
suggested this role, I took this opportunity and they said they were pleased and said they’d get back
after a few weeks. A month later I received a call off my agent telling me I’d got the role.

Did you manage to watch any of the reboots?

Yes. I watched the first two as soon as they were released in cinemas and was very amazed at the
storyline and the characters involved. It was a major shock at the end of the second film and I knew
there would be a chance to at least get an interview but I never imagined I’d be here now speaking
about my role!

What is your view of Andrew Garfield after acting with him? He also was in the same situation as you
coming up from small parts to suddenly becoming a character everyone knows and loves.

He’s a down to earth guy. The first time on set with him he explained that he felt the same and that
once you start big roles you begin to fall in love with character you’re playing and it’s absolutely
true. He dealt with it one step at a time like I am now and I’m loving everyone second of it working
with him and many others.

Can you tell us anything about the storyline and what it revolves around?

Well yes but I won’t be giving too much away for the people who haven’t had the chance to watch
the second film yet but it revolves around Eddie Brock coming onto the scene and after the
revolution at the end of the second film he watches everything change around him including Spider-
Man then at some point during the film he grows hatred and evolves into the character we all know
and love… Venom.

So after this is there any changes to the character from the comics or is it still closely related?

There isn’t really any major change for the character he’s still the same guy comic book fans all know
and love. He still has that burning hatred for Spider-Man through Eddie Brook but also the alien
symbiote itself seems to have gained that and is more troublesome than ever shown in the film. He
will certainly be one to remember in the films.
Will Venom be making more of an appearance in the film than the last Spider-Man movie before the
reboots? Last time out a lot of people were disappointed about the character coming about so late
in the film.

Hell yes. I mean the director huge credit to him has thought about what the fans of the comics want
and that’s a classic on-going battle between Spider-Man and Venom. I mean if you’ve read the
comics you will know how much of a big character Venom is and he simply needs that edge this time
around I mean don’t get me wrong Venom in Spider-Man 3 was amazing but as felt by many others
he simply didn’t get shown as much as the spot light as he should of this time around I think fans will
be very satisfied.

Will there be any shocks that will carry on the story onto its final film?

I can’t really tell you that now can I? I mean every big film has their secrets most never get the
answers to them but that’s the whole point of films for the audience to make assumptions and their
imagination, to try and work out what the answer could be.

So finally this is the question most Marvel enthusiasts would like to know... Would you like or will
there ever be a possibility of you staring in your own spin off movie of Venom?

Tough question! I really can’t say too much that will reveal any of the plot but what I can say if that
ever did come about I’d be the first person up for it! I love the idea of it and it would be interesting
to see the story that goes with it but the potential is always there for it if you get the right ideas, the
thing is with Venom he can be a little bit of an Anti- Hero at times but who knows we’ll just have to
wait and see.

Well this wraps up our interview with Joshua on his new role and we look forward to it being
released in the cinemas later this year. What are you expecting from this year blockbloster? Will it
solve more mysteries? And finally will it give us a clue as to whether there will be a Venom movie
spin off? Send in your thoughts to us unicoproductionsuk@gmail.com see you soon web heads.
