C AST R I ES, Saint L ucia O ctober 21, 2013 The United Workers Party (UWP)
regrets the closing of the Hess Oil facility in Saint Lucia. Amerada Hess, the owner
of the facility and its patriarch, Leon Hess, were good corporate citizens who
delivered their part of a longstanding agreement.
In keeping with their campaign promise, the UWP request that the Government of
Saint Lucia make the agreement between the new owners as open and transparent
as was the case between Amerada Hess and the Government of Sir. John Compton.
The Party further urges all Saint Lucians to pay close attention to developments as
the present Government is known for shrouding important financial dealings under
a cloak of secrecy.
The UWP stands ready to add its voice to the process of negotiations in the
Parliament of Saint Lucia when the new agreement is debated in the best interest of
the people. The Party will remain true to the legacy of Sir. John Compton, whose
Government was responsible for bringing Amerada Hess to Saint Lucia.
