2. General Test-Taking Strategies Read directions for each test CAREFULLY. Answer the easy questions first, then come back for the more difficult ones. Use logic on the more difficult ones. There is no penalty for guessing; every question must be answered. Do not forget to write legibly.
3. Preparing for Test Day Bring the following items: Reporting time will be at 8:00 a.m. and your admission ticket will be needed (if you do not bring it you will not be permitted to take the exam as well as if you are late to the testing room). Do not bring highlight pens or any other writing utensils. You will not be allowed to have scratch paper, books, dictionaries, notes or other aids, highlighters, colored pens or pencils, mechanical pencils, ink pens, correction fluid, reading material, or any electronic device other than the permitted calculator. Please take not that you will not be provided with pencils or calculators in the testing room, it is your responsibility to bring your own.
4. ACT English and Reading Test The ACT English Test is a 75-question, 45-minute test that measures your understanding of the conventions of standard written English (punctuation, grammar and usage, sentence structure, strategy, organization and style). The test consist of five essays and/or passages. The ACT Reading Test is a 40-question, 35-minute test that measures your reading comprehension. (Social Studies/Sciences reading skills and Arts/Literature reading skills).
5. ACT Writing Test (optional) If registered for this portion of the exam, the score will be an addition to your original score which works as an advantage. The Writing Test is a 30-minute essay test that will measure your writing skills.
6. ACT Mathematics Test The ACT Mathematics Test is a 60-question, 60-minute test designed to assess the mathematical skills students have typically acquired in courses taken up to the beginning of 12 grade (pre-algebra, elementary algebra, intermediate algebra, coordinate geometry, plane geometry, and trigonometry).
7. ACT Science Test The ACT Science Test is a 40-questiom, 35-minute test that measures the interpretation, analysis, evaluations, reasoning, and problem-solving skills required in the natural sciences (You are not permitted to use a calculator on this portion of the exam). This exam includes biology, chemistry, physics, and Earth/space.
