2. How can we save energy?
Why is it important to save energy?
What can I do to save energy?
What is energy conservation?
3. Saving energy means decreasing the amount of
energy used while achieving a similar outcome of end
use.
Using less energy has lots of benefits – you can save
money and help the environment. Generating energy
requires precious natural resources, for instance coal, oil
or gas.
Therefore, using less energy helps us to preserve
these resources and make them last longer in the future.
4. Energy isn't free. The grown-ups in your house
pay for the all the electricity you use. So wasting energy is
the same as wasting money .
Wasting energy isn't good for the environment
either. Most of the energy sources we depend on, like coal
and natural gas, can't be replaced - once we use them up,
they're gone forever.
Another problem is that most forms of energy
can cause pollution.
So the more energy we save, the better off our
pocketbooks and our earth will be!
5. There are many sources on the web that give you ideas
of what you can do to save energy. Here are a few ideas to get
you started:
Change your travel behaviour, think more in terms of public
transportation, if possible, walk or ride your bicycle instead of
taking the car
Turn off lights and appliances when you are not using them,
use energy-saving light bulbs
Use a microwave instead of a stove to reheat food
It takes a lot of energy to heat your house during the winter, so
lowering the thermostat a few degrees can make a big
difference.
During the summer, using a fan instead of turning on the air
conditioner will save a lot of electricity.
6. W h a t i s e n e r g y c o n s e r v a t i o n ?
Conservation means saving or using less
energy. When we turn off a light, we're
conserving energy.
