 Artificial Intelligence (AI) is usually
defined as the science of making
computers do things that require
intelligence when done by humans.
 It is the science and engineering of
making intelligent machines,
especially intelligent computer
programs. It is related to the similar
task of using computers to
understand human intelligence.
 A.I is the study of ideas that enable
computers to be intelligent

Machine learning is a scientific discipline concerned with the design and
development of algorithms that allow machines to mimic human intelligence.
AI can have two purposes. One is to use the power of computers to augment
human thinking, just as we use motors to augment human or horse power. Robotics
and expert systems are major branches of that. The other is to use a computer's
artificial intelligence to understand how humans think. In a humanoid way. If you
test your programs not merely by what they can accomplish, but how they
accomplish it, they you're really doing cognitive science; you're using AI to
understand the human mind."

7. Logic is used for knowledge representation and problem solving, but it can
be applied to other problem as well as.AI researchers to have devised a
number of powerful to solve these problems using methods from probability
theory and economics.

8. Resemblance To Human Mind....
The special ability of artificial intelligence is to reach a solution based on facts
rather than on a preset series of steps;-
is what most closely resembles the thinking function of the human brain. If
you have a problem, think of a past situation where you solved a similar
problem.
 Provides a convenient and efficient means of capturing and storing all
components of the knowledge base
 If someone does something, ask yourself what the person's purpose was in
doing that.

9.  If you fail at something, imagine how you might have done things
differently.
If you observe an event, try to infer what prior event might have caused it.
If you see an object, wonder if anyone owns it.

Game Playing:-
Deep Blue Chess program beat world champion Gary Kasparov
Speech Recognition:-
PEGASUS spoken language interface to American Airlines' EAASY
SABRE’ reservation system, which allows users to obtain flight
information and make reservations over the telephone. The 1990s
has seen significant advances in speech recognition so that limited
systems are now successful.

12. Computer Vision:-
Face recognition programs in use by banks, government, etc.
The ALVINN system from CMU autonomously drove a van from
Washington, D.C. to San Diego (all but 52 of 2,849 miles),
averaging 63 mph day and night, and in all weather conditions.
Handwriting recognition, electronics and manufacturing
inspection, photo interpretation, baggage inspection, reverse
engineering to automatically construct a 3D geometric model

13. Why we need AI.??
 To supplement natural intelligence for e.g. we are building
intelligence in an object so that it can do what we want it to do, as
for example– robots, thus reducing human labor and reducing
human mistakes..
Artificial intelligence is also difficult to understand by its
content.
Boundaries of AlI are well defined.
 AI programs - like people - are usually not perfect, and even
make mistakes.

While military uses have tended to dominate commercial
development of autonomous robots in America, business
opportunities for smart robots are also sizable, according to
experts Japan’s research into intelligent robotics has been
oriented toward helping the nation’s rapidly aging population
perform domestic tasks.

17. A.I. In Video Games
Video game artificial intelligence is a programming area that
tries to make the computer act in a similar way to human
intelligence.
A rule based system is used whereby information and rules
are entered into a database, and when the video game AI is
faced with a situation, it finds appropriate information and acts
accordingly.
