Here you can see a massive difference between the masthead on my school
magazine and the one on my music magazine. My school magazine masthead
seems funky and fun, where as my music magazine masthead is more clearer,
bolder and stylish, it is very similar to the Q magazine masthead. I believe the
masthead I used on the previous magazine made it look cheap and less
professional. I have learnt how to adapt mastheads around different styles of
genre of music.
The style in which I present my magazine stories is very different. First off on
my school magazine there is not many stories to attract the audience to red
and is looking very empty. Where as on my music magazine it seems more
packed with headlines and content. The text I used in my school magazine
seems very cheap as its curvy and funky, whereas the text on my music
magazine is very professional and bolder. Also some of the text on the
previous magazine doesn’t stand out due to the background colour, whereas
on the music magazine the text stands out more as it blends in well with you
background colour.
When designing my school magazine I believed that the cover story just
had to be the biggest text and placed anywhere on the stage, however I
learned that it did not stand out very well. To ensure that my cover story
was the best it could possibly be on my music magazine cover I
experimented with different fonts, colours, sizes etc to get a wide range of
styles, doing this was a lot of fun. The text I used in my music magazine
cover is more complicated as the font sizes and colours are different. I feel
as if ive improved on this area of the magazine massively.
The modelling in both magazines have some differences between them.
In the school magazine I used a full body shot, where as in the music
magazine in used a mid shot, I believe the mid shot has greater effect
because you models face is more clear and stands out more to the
audience. The background in the music magazine is more interesting and
helps fit the mood of the magazine, whereas the school magazine
background is very dull and boring. In the school magazine I believe that
I used too much editing on the main picture as the clothes blend in too
much with the background to much. I am very happy with the design on
my music magazine front cover.
As you can see the difference between my 2 contents page are massive. The music
magazine layout is much better and looks more professional with better use of
colours, fonts and images. The school magazine contents page seems to be randomly
placed and the writing blends in with the background colours so it is hard to read,
where as the music magazine contents are more clear and easy to read. The
background colour also looks more sensible than the school magazine as the school
magazine looks very dark and boring.
I believe the us of putting all the pictures to one side and the content
stories to another has improved my music magazine contents page a lot
more. This shows that the magazine is more organised and easier to read. It
also allowed the reader not to get lost in all the images being dotted all over
the page. I believe I have learnt to make a contents page more stylish and
organised.
I believe that the pictures I used in the music magazine work a lot
better with the theme. The previous pictures have poor backgrounds
and very poor editing applied to them. The images in my music
magazine work very well with the genre of music and the target
audience of indie scenesters. I have learnt how to layout images and
ensure that they are not just randomly placed over the page to make
sure it looks professional.
We did not create a double page spread in the preliminary task so I cant
compare my music magazine to a previous one. However I have learnt
how to make it effective . The use of bold text is simple, effective and
works well with the rest of the magazine. The use of a quote in big bold
writing has a massive effect as it persuades the reader to read the article
as they are interested to know what the quote is about. The images
applied on the double page spread are placed to made it seem as if it is
busy. I believe that I have efficiently created a very effective double page
spread that works very well with the rest of the magazine.
