1. Goal: The goal for these signs is to try to motivate students to do their homework and share with
them why it is important to do it.
Audience: The audience for this sign is students from 4th to 5th grade. If the importance of
homework is not established by 5th grade I think it is very difficult to get students to be motivated
until high school when there are consequences if they don’t pass. So the audience younger to get
the base established.
Message: The message for this sign is for students to take personnel pride in doing their homework.
Showing them what doing their homework accomplishes. Since grades are going to the wayside and
students are being moved to the next grade level no matter if they show grade level improvements or
not. Not doing their homework really has no effect until high school so this sign’s message is what
the benefits of doing homework are.

5. The major changes between this sign and my original design
is the amount of elements on the sign. I felt I needed more
pieces for my sign to be an “Interpretive” sign. Also when
required to make all the changes each week my original sign
was difficult to manipulate. So I added a lot more elements
to be able to change. As you can see I slowly go back to less
as I worked towards my final design.

7. I went to this design as a way to use all the elements the text
talks about but not be all over the place for my target
audience of elementary school students. I liked it but it did
not do a very good job of being exciting. So I took the basic
concept there and applied a lot of aspects from the text
book to complete my final sign.

9. As you can see there is a better overall appeal to this sign.
Most of the elements from the textbooks are integrated into
this sign. I like the whole chalkboard look as it incorprates
that school feeling. I also changed the word choice in my
information blurb so it sounds more intriguing. Overall I
think it is a solid sign that uses all of the elements learned in
this class.
