PROJECT BRIEF:
Hammerson PLC commissioned a complete digital survey of the Whitgift centre to support the
proposed re-development. Initial requirement from RTKL Architects who need elevations to
support the planning submission and the Listed Building consent.
•The model are being created from a point cloud with 2billion data points, collected with a 2mm
precision by Warner Land Surveys Ltd.
•The model will initially cover of all the buildings on both sides of the road along Wellesley Rd,
Poplar Walk, North End, George Street forming the area Whitgift Centre.
•Facade elevations of buildings in areas A,B,C,D,E are being created along the north-end and
George Street.
•Road surfaces, pavements, ramps etc will be created to make the area model look right.

The Whitgift Almshouses, Croydon- Grade II listed Building
A survivor in central Croydon is this lovely complex of almshouses. Located right in the heart of
the shopping district, it gives its name to the Shopping Complex: “The Whitgift Centre” The
Whitgift Almshouses, Croydon- Grade II listed Building
The building was the brainchild of Archbishop Whitgift (c. 1530-1604) who, resident in the nearby
Archbishop's Palace, sought permission from Elizabeth I to build some almshouses for the poor
of the parish. Begun in 1596, and built in brick with stone detailing, it survives essentially
unaltered.

Built by 1880-5, by J L Pearson. A very good example of this architect's work.The interior
is brick and stone in C13 and C14 style, with lofty nave, aisles, choir and transcepts,
vaulted throughout. Simpler brick exterior with stone dressings. Small square spired
towers flanking choir. Short spire over crossing. Entrance beneath large brick tower,
originally intended to be capped by a tall spire.
