401st AFSBn-Kandahar issues equipment to last unit, preps for
U.S. forces drawdown KANDAHAR AIRFIELD, Afghanistan -- AFSBn-Kandahar, 401st
Army Field Support Brigade issued equipment to the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry
Division, the last unit scheduled to receive equipment from the battalion in preparation for the
reduction of U.S. military presence and full transition to Afghan security lead by December 2014.
Army chemical weapons storage workers reach safety
milestones TOOELE, Utah -- During a 12-month period, the Deseret Chemical Depot
achieved a zero recordable injury rate as employees completed the delivery of thousands of
barrels of chemical agent-contaminated waste materials. The Occupational Safety and Health
Administration defines a recordable injury as any work-related injury that requires treatment

Picatinny to gain doctorate granting institution this fall PICATINNY
ARSENAL, N.J. -- Many organizations call Picatinny Arsenal home. Soon, a doctoral degree-
granting program will also find a home here. The new Armament Academy at Picatinny Arsenal
is a first-of-its-kind program that will offer graduate degrees in armament engineering. Classes
are planned to begin September 6 with all classes being held on Fridays at the Armament
University.

Community sewers provide cool relief to Soldiers REDSTONE ARSENAL,
Ala. -- Carol Wolf and her fellow members of the Southern Tennessee Valley Chapter of the
American Sewing Guild want to help Soldiers in the field keep things cool. Wolf, a contracts
attorney with the Army Contracting Command, devoted time in July to create more than 80 cool

401st AFSB receives first weigh-in-motion system in Afghanistan

accommodate its annual summer vacation period and to conduct heavy maintenance,
someone who is not familiar with Army manufacturing might have thought the sounds of heavy
machining would have been silenced as darkness spread to more than one million square feet
of manufacturing space.
