DESIGN CYCLE as the model that helps
        us create and evaluate
         products/solutions.
The Design Cycle
STAGE 1
INVESTIGATE
Identify the problem




*What do I need to know about my problem?
Evaluate   the importance of the problem for life, society and the environment .
Develop the brief




   Formulate significant questions
            that will guide my investigation:
    What are the most appropriate materials?
    What tools and equipment can I use?
    What are the similar existing products?


*Now I can write a brief that describes
the solution to my problem!!!!

Design a product/solution.

Produce several design ideas that meet the
   design specification.
   Choose one the best idea and develop it further
Plan a product solution.


*Develop a work plan
to create a product/solution that
has a series of logical steps.

 How much time do I have ?
 What materials do I need?
 What tools are available?
 What steps do I need to follow
  to create my product?
STAGE 3
CREATE
Use appropriate techniques

and equipment
CREATE
Follow the plan and justify any
modifications
Create the product/solution.
Keep a process journal
   To record the process of creation

EVALUATE
Evaluate the product/solution.




   Does my product solve the problem?
   Does it follow the design
    specifications?
   How can I improve it?
   What is the impact of my
    product/solution on the environment
    or society?
We test the product/solution.




   We make appropriate tests
   We make surveys
We evaluate our performance

The MYP Design and Technology course helps us to:  apply practical and creative‑thinking skills to solve problems in technology.  explore the role of technology for life, society and the environment.  become aware of our responsibilities as world citizens when making decisions and taking action on technology issues.
  • 3. The MYP design and technology course challenges us to produce: Products /Solutions
  • 4. Why do we create products? To solve problems
  • 5. In Design Technology we use the DESIGN CYCLE as the model that helps us create and evaluate products/solutions.
  • 8. Identify the problem *What do I need to know about my problem? Evaluate the importance of the problem for life, society and the environment .
  • 9. Develop the brief  Formulate significant questions that will guide my investigation: What are the most appropriate materials? What tools and equipment can I use? What are the similar existing products? *Now I can write a brief that describes the solution to my problem!!!!

  • 16. Formulate a design specification *Who is my product for? (target market) •What types of materials can I use? •What dimensions will it have? •How will I know if my product solves the problem?
  • 18. Design a product/solution. Produce several design ideas that meet the design specification.  Choose one the best idea and develop it further
  • 19. Plan a product solution. *Develop a work plan to create a product/solution that has a series of logical steps.  How much time do I have ?  What materials do I need?  What tools are available?  What steps do I need to follow to create my product?
  • 22. CREATE Follow the plan and justify any modifications

  • 24. Create the product/solution. Keep a process journal  To record the process of creation
  • 26. Evaluate the product/solution.  Does my product solve the problem?  Does it follow the design specifications?  How can I improve it?  What is the impact of my product/solution on the environment or society?

  • 28. We evaluate our performance  Did I follow each stage of the D&T cycle?  Did I face any problems?  How did I solve them?
