Computer Science (UFPA), M.Sc. (Federal University of Rio Grande
do Sul), D.Sc. (Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul) – sandwich
stage in the Universität Stuttgart (Germany).
Currently, on temporally leave of absence from the UFPA.
Consultant for Process Management and Improvement, Software
Architecture Design, and Innovation Management.
Head of the Software Engineering Lab @ UFPA (LABES-UFPA) – a
R&D facility that was responsible to carry out more 20 projects
funded by private companies and and public sector. 3

• Originally proposed by Stanford University in the
1950s in order to achieve economic development by
the integration of academic and production worlds
• Promotes research and innovation through the
integration of the university, private institutions and
the government
• Today: more than 100 SciTech Parks in Brazil
• Triple Helix model of development (Etzkowitz)
• Wide variety of arrangements: integration to
Incubators, Acceleration centers, Universities,
R&D centers, Industry, Commerce, and Local
government.
6. What is Guamá STP?
• Innovation environment created in 2010 as a result of the
cooperation of the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), State
Government of Pará, and the Federal Rural University of Pará
(UFRA)
• Named after the Guamá river
• The first and only Science & Technology Park in the Amazon
• Positive: opportunity to growth
• Challenging facts:
• (ack of understanding of its role by the local society
• Limited experience of the institutions in the relation to
the market
• Managed by the Guamá Foundation
• Non-profit private foundation partially funded by the State

7. Brief history of the Guamá STP
• 2009: Original plan of three STPs in Pará: Guamá (Belém),
Tapajós (Santarém) and Tocantins (Marabá) STP
• 2010: Agreement between UFPA and State Government
• 75,000 m2 unused territory between UFPA and UFRA
• 2011: UFRA joined the agreement
• 2011: The Amazonian HQ of INPE (National Institute for Space
Research) established in the Guamá STP
• 2011: CEAMAZON (Energy Efficiency Center) established in the
Guamá STP
• 2017: Innovation Space (1st multi-user building)
• 2018: Entrepreneur Space (2nd multi-user building) 7
