2. Microsoft Power
Platform
Overview
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella had said,
“For the first time in fact, in our own Microsoft history,
we have an extensibility model that is the same for
Office 365 and Dynamics 365. This has been a dream
of mine for, I don’t know, for 15 years probably. And we
are finally here and we are executing super well.”
So, what is exactly Microsoft Power Platform?
Microsoft Power Platform represents a user-friendly
interface to the diverse sophisticated technologies that
are part of the overall Microsoft Stack. The ‘Power
Platform’ is a collective term for four Microsoft products:
Power BI, PowerApps, Power Automate and Power
Virtual agent. They provide the means to help people
easily manipulate, surface, automate and analyze data
and can be used with Office 365 and Dynamics 365 (as
well as other third-party apps and other Microsoft
services). The Power Platform is possible thanks to the
Common Data Service (or CDS), which is essentially
the underlying data platform that provides a unified and
simplified data schema so that applications and
services can inter-operate
3. Components of Microsoft Power Platform
POWER BI Power BI is a collection of software services, apps, and
connectors that work together to turn your unrelated sources of
data into coherent, visually immersive, and interactive insights. Power
BI is a collection of software services, apps, and connectors that
work together to turn your unhinged sources of data into coherent,
visually attractive, and interactive insights.
POWER APPS Power Apps is a collection of apps, services, connectors and
data platform that provides a rapid application development environment
in the form of 'Platform as a Service'. You can build mobile apps having
responsive design that run across Android, iOS, Windows (Modern Apps),
and on most of the commonly used browsers. Power apps platform comes
with Dataflex at no additional cost. You can hence build apps and store
your data within a single integrated
4. POWER AUTOMATE Power Automate is a service that enables you
create automated workflows between various systems, mobile apps and
services. Power Automate enables you synchronize files, get
notifications, approve requests, collect data and more. Known formerly
as Flow, Power Automate now has included in it Robotic Process
Automation (RPA) features that enables you automate repetitive tasks.
Power Automate can be used to design logic for Power Apps, without
having to write code.
POWER VIRTUAL AGENT Power Automate used to be known as
Microsoft Flow. This allows you to create automated workflows
between your Microsoft services or other third-party applications, which
allows staff to avoid carrying out repetitive tasks and save valuable
time. Meanwhile you can use that to complete you other important
stuff.

and web APIs
Ability to customize and build custom connect
On-premises Data Gateway

Some of the advantages you get after implementing Microsoft Power
Platform for your business are:
6. The Power Platform enables data democratisation – the ability for digital
information to be accessible to the typical (non-technical) end user. It
provides three technologies that allow staff to do more with their data
themselves without coding knowledge. While it doesn’t allow the intricacies
and flexibility of custom coding, it does provide a simple method for most
users to be able to create, automate or analyse their data in ways which
have never been possible for the average worker.
Common Data Service
The heart of the Microsoft Power Platform is the Common Data
Service for Apps(CDS). CDS is a secure database hosted in Azure
Cloud prebuilt with a standard set of entities and record types. These
record types – for example, Accounts, Contacts, and various activity
types are extensible – so you can add additional data fields.
Developers can also add new entities to fit their business needs.
Entities have relationships to each other, and Business Rules can be
created to make fields required, to hide fields and to set default
values.
