ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
 I undertook this Project work, as the part of my XII- Physics project. I
had tried to apply my best of knowledge and experience, gained during
the study and class work experience.
 I would like to extend my sincere thanks and gratitude to my
teacherMrs ______________ and Mr _____________
I am very much thankful to our Principal Mr. Chopra for giving
valuable time and moral support to develop this software.
 I would like to take the opportunity to extend my sincere thanks and
gratitude to our parents for being a source of inspiration and providing
time and freedom to develop this project.

AIM OF PROJECT:
 To analyze the given sample of commercial antacids by determining
the amount of HCl acid they can neutralize.
REQUIREMENTS
 Burette
 Pipette
 Titration flask
 Measuring flask
 Beaker
 Weight box
 Fractional weight
 Sodium hydroxide
 Sodium carbonate
 HCl
 Phenolphthalein / Methyl Orange
PROCEDURE
 Prepare 1 litre of HCl solution by diluting 10mL of concentrated acid for 1
litre.
 Similarly, make 1L of NaOH by dissolving 4g of NaOH to 1L solution.
 Prepare Na2CO3 solution by weighing exactly 1.325g of anhydrous Na2CO3
and then dissolve in water to prepare exactly 0.25L of solution.
 Standardize the HCl solution by titrating it against Na2CO3 solution using
methyl orange as indicator.
 Similarly, standardize the NaOH solution by titrating it against standard
HCl solution using phenolphthalein as indicator.
 Powder the various samples of antacid tablets and weigh 1g each.
 Add a specific volume of standardized solution of HCl to each of the
weighing sample taken in a conical flask. The acid should be in slight excess,
so that it can neutralize all the alkaline components of the tablet.
 Add 2 drops of phenolphthalein and warm the flask till most of the powder
dissolves.
 Titrate the solution against the standardized NaOH solution, till a
permanent pinkish tinge is obtained. Repeat the experiment with different
antacids

neutralization is . It is most effective.
PRECAUTIONS
 Rinse the pipette and burette with the solutions which are to be
filled.
 There should be no air bubble in the nozzle of the pipette.
 Anti parallax card should be used.
 Rubber pinch cork burette should not be used
 Two concordant readings must be taken.
 Lower miniscus of the burette should be read.
