2. My Favourite Opening
Title Sequence
My favourite opening title sequence is ‘Superbad’. This is mainly due
to the way the sequence is constructed and represented, it is pretty
much abstract which is really good as it doesn't give much away the
film. Furthermore, t changes traditional format, which is very
interesting. This is all down to the conventions.

3. Overview of Superbad
Superbad (2007) American comedy film which is
directed by Greg Mottola and starring Jonah
Hill and Michael Cera. The film was written by big
comedy star Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, whom
both began writing it at the age of 13.The film's
main characters have the same given names as
Rogen and Goldberg being Seth and Evan.
4. Conventions
Conventions, the typical format, content, techniques and
style used mainly across the medium. They are visual
and audible clues that tell you that what you are
watching is a title sequence. In essence, you could
describe these as the ingredients needed to make a title
sequence. There are 4 soecific conventions of a title
sequence and this
Technical,
Genre
Titlling
Institutional.
5. Institution
Superbad were distributed and produced by Columbia
Pictures, who are famous for distributing and producing
blockbuster films such as Spiderman, Rocky Balboa. 2012 and
many more. They are widely known for their comedy films as
well.
Superbad took a traditional format of Columbia pictures, and
turned it into there own style. A flicker effect has also been
used to give the sequence a brilliant effect, which just
naturally happened in the past in movies. This relates the era
the title sequence is trying to portray in sequence.
Furthermore, there was a movement in the logo as well as the
zooming in on the torch light which then carried on top the
old Columbia Pictures logo
6. Genre
The symbolic codes from the colours used in the sequence, such as
green, yellow, and blue, are very colorful and bright colours which
associated with the era the 70s which could coonte the film might
be set in. This also connotes that the film is going to be a comedy
due to colours used which lack of seriousness.
7. Titling
There is a collaboration of both actors and the
most important people involved. The font size of
the titling isn't particularly big and bold, which
could connote that they don’t want to focus on
the actors name but the action going on behind it.
But the actor is specifically made to stand out due
to the contrast of colours, and we connote that its
going to be a comedy.
Where the text is positioned varies and changes
position each time.
8. Technical
The transitions used are very quick and snappy,
which are synchronous to the music which is known
as funky music, which has associations with the era
this film is trying to portray. A wipe effect was used
for transition from the new Columbia Pictures logo
to the old,
A flicker effect has also been used to give the
sequence a brilliant effect, which just naturally
happened in the past in movies. This relates the era
the film is trying to portray in sequence.
A silhouette effect is also used which doesn’t give
much away about the way about the characters, like
what they look like, other than what they like to
dance and have fun, however, might not relate to
the film itself. The fact that much isn't given away
suggests this is abstract.
9. Target Audience
From seeing the editing of the Columia Pcitures logo and
the fact that it is Columbia Pictures, the audience will
automatically have idea of the genre, being Comedy.
Due to what you see in the Title sequence, dancing, fun
and enjoyment ; very comedic. However, some many
Comedy are very high certificated, usually around a 15
(which this film is), so this film is aimed at young adults
and over who want a laugh. This film does contain Sex
and Nudity, Violence and
Gore, Profanity, Alcohol, Drugs, Smoking, and Frighteni
ng, Intense Scenes which is not sutibale for children.
With actors such as Seth Rogen involved, who starred in
comedy’s such as Knocked Up which had a lot of sexual
scenes involved, the audience are automatically alerted.
