4. Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center
ΚΕΝΤΡΟ ΠΟΛΙΤΙΣΜΟΥ ΙΔΡΥΜΑ ΣΤΑΥΡΟΣ ΝΙΑΡΧΟΣ
• The Foundation’s largest single gift to the Greek government ($796 million /
€566 million) is the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC), in
Athens, which is expected to be completed in 2016. The project includes the
new facilities of the National Library of Greece(170 acres) , and of the Greek
National Opera( 28.000 sm) , as well as the Stavros Niarchos Park( an area of
170.000 sm). This project will be accomplished by the cooperation of the
architect Renzo Piano. It will be take placed 4,5 kilometers southern of the
center of Athens , at Delta Falirou.
• The SNFCC is a testament and a commitment to the country’s future. It is also
an engine of short- to mid-term economic stimulus. The foundation’s aims is
to carry forward the flame of our culture, history and art. A center of
education, art and pleasure. The SNFCC is a project of national importance
with significant transformative potential, especially in the current socio-
economic conditions.

(SOAP), Create social structures to tackle poverty in the centre of Athens,

7. OpenHouse Athens
: a brand new Athens’ event
celebrating the city’s architecture and design.
Project: under the auspices of Hellenic Ministry of Tourism,
www.visitgreece.gr, Athens’ Municipality, in collaboration with
Hellenic Institute of Architecture and organized by OPEN HOUSE
GREECE (part of the Open House Worldwide Family) and OHA 2014.
Program: residential, cultural, educational, public, commercial
spaces and hotels all around Athens opened for free to the public for
3 days (4-5-6 of April) - more than 14.000 visits, up to 300 volunteers.
Expectations: citizens and visitors explore the inside of
buildings and understand the value of a well-designed built
environment, architects get ideas, tourists able to be a part of
Athens’ buildings and daily life, an effort to participate actively in the
debate on the revitalization of downtown Athens.
