Fmp proposal(1)
1. Centre Name and Number:
York College 48357
Student Name and Number:
Adam Lepard 356248
Project proposal title and date:
Sacrifice, January 31st 2020
Main area of activity:
Film scene and trailer
Rationale:
In all my previous work and especially last year’s FMP I’ve tried to push my technical skills by
learning new editing techniques and experimenting with light and sound (which I still intend to
explore) however I think that a lot of my work lacked in story telling so over the past year I’ve been
planning a concept for a film which has helped me to grow more confident in my story-telling
abilities which I want to show off in this project. Going into this project I know that I will be facing
difficulties getting a lot of actors involved so I want to film a scene where there will only be a
maximum of 4 actors so I don’t need to be reliant on a lot of actors. I want my project to include the
same attention to technical aspects as my previous work as well as strong emphasis on gripping
story telling. In previous projects such as the art gallery event I’ve been learning more teamwork
skills and this has helped me come to the conclusion that I can aim for a more difficult video to
make and have the confidence in the skills of myself and others to make this project to a high
standard of quality.
Project Concept:
As usual I intend to make a horror inspired film however, I won’t attempt to stick to genre
conventions as I want to explore a theme which doesn’t commonly occur in horror, the theme of
love. I want to make a horror film about a teenager who goes to a house party with his friends
however we slowly begin to notice that the party is just a mask for a cult meeting where our main
characters are being prepared as sacrifices for some darker purpose. The element of love enters
the film when our protagonist falls for a girl at the party who is a member of the cult trying to
distract him from the horrors developing deep within the house. As I’m only going to make one
scene from the film, I want to make one that’s action packed and requires little context so that it
keeps the audience engaged throughout the scene. I want to make a trailer to accompany the
scene which will give more information about what direction the film will go in essentially being a
montage of exciting moments in the film that will hook the audience. I’m going to need to research
into making tracking shots as my scene will possibly be one long tracking shot so I will need to do
some deep research into this subject so that I can plan the scene so it has a low risk of failure.
Once I’ve made the scene, I will post it on YouTube and find somewhere to do a screening of my
work.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed?
Each day of production I will add to a PowerPoint dairy listing what I had done that day and why so
that I will have a clear understanding of my thought process while making my work. I want to
evaluate my project as a whole in a PowerPoint where I explain my process as well as what I liked
about my work and what I could improve in the future. I also want to make a video where I go
through my FMP and describe my thoughts and opinions on my work as a creator. I think that
making a video is important as it’ll allow me to put my feelings into words and explain why I did
certain things, it’ll also let me describe how certain things where done in my scene and the trailer
so it’ll essential act as a directors commentary while helping me asses my work. As a director I’m
always looking for places in my work where I can use new techniques or incorporate details that
make my work look and feel more appealing therefore I think that something really important to me

Week Tasks to be Completed: Specific Tasks
1 Pre-production Research- primary and secondary
I want to make my proposal by explaining what I
will be making and how I will make it. I will
research and look at Climax, Midsommar, Romeo
and Juliet, Suspiria and the Shinning as I feel like
these are the top films that have influenced my
concept.
2 Pre-production Research- primary and secondary
In week two I need to make a survey that I will
share on horror film reddit forums so that I can
get plenty of replies and feedback. I also want to
conduct some interviews where I ask some
questions to find out more about my audience
and if they like my project concept. If I have
enough time, I will also start researching how
long takes are made in film as I’m planning for
my scene to be done in all one shot.
3 Pre-production Research- primary and secondary
I will finish off all of my research so if I need to
analyse my survey feedback I will and if I need to
explain the results of my interviews then I will
write about it. I want to use this week to do some
in my evaluations is to make sure I cover every thought and feeling that I experience in the process
of making my work. This is what will make my weekly reflections and my evaluations so significant
as it will be an expression of how I feel about my project as a whole and how my feelings have
changed as the project has progressed and how I’ve adapted my skills during production.
3. research into many different parts of my
production such as the lighting I could use and
various styles of camera work that I can try to
incorporate into my work.
4 Pre-production Experiments/risk assesments
in this week I will look through all the possible
issues and risks that may occur throughout the
production process, this includes technical issues
that my occur with equipment that I have and
theoretical issues that I may have with such as
actors not turning up or the weather being wrong.
In this week I hope to solve these problems and
explain how they will be prevented or how risks
will be minimised. If this doesn’t take too long I
will begin filming the experiments in this week as
well
5 Pre-production Experiments
I want to experiment by practicing making match
cuts, testing out one take tracking shots and
trying out coloured gels in my house to find the
most effective method of lighting. Doing these
experiments before my production will help me to
have a better understanding of how I will film my
scene. I may also try to practice making music in
this week as I normal find that it takes a while to
get into the flow of making music during
production which normally take a few days off of
time I couldv’e spent editing.
6 Pre-production Pre-Production and planning
In this week I will start planning for my film scene
and trailer. I will work on the visual aspects of my
work in this week, making slides on the films
aesthetics such as the lighting, prop and costume
design and colour schemes. I think that by
splitting up my planning into two sections: visual
and technichal, by doing this it means that I’ll be
organised in planning for both weeks which is
something that has been an issue in the past
howevewr I reckon that this method will help me
improve the effeciency of my planning.
7 Pre-production Pre-Production and planning
in this week I will be planning the technical
aspects of my project, this means that I will need
to gather equipment, actors and a crew so that I
can make the filming process more efficient.
Technical aspects will also include making
storyboards, shot lists, and a screenplay, as
these will be extremely important to my filming
process, allowing me to know exactly how I want
each aspect of the film to be.
8 Production Production and reflections
If I do not manage to finish my planning in the
two previous weeks then it will likely eat into this
week so finishing it will be the first thing I do in
this week if I haven’t completed it already
I will be making a powerpoint reflecting on each
week of this project so I will be documenting my
production reflections in this powerpoint so that I
have a better understanding on how I’ve felt at
4. various stages so that my evaluation is truthful to
how I feel I’ve been throughout this project. I will
make these reflections at the end of each day of
production.
I will probably be starting production this week by
filming my scene ( I will likely film my trailer at a
later date as it will require less planning and
actors) and I will begin my editing process.
9 Production In this week I will have lots of things that I’d like
to get on with but if I haven’t made any music yet
then this would be a good week to do so as it
would mean that I can use it for a refrence when
editing the pace of my scene.
If I have made music before this week I will
continue editing my scene for this week
10 Production In this week I hope to finish of the editing for the
first draft of my scene so that I can use it for
feedback next week. I’d also like to use this week
to film my trailer as if I don’t get much feedback I
can move on to editing my trailer which would
bring me closer to finishing production.
11 Production Draft peer feedback
This week I’ll be get some feedback from my
peers about the work I’ve done so far so that I
can make improvements to my product. If I don’t
get much feedback this will mean that my project
is successful so far, so I will make those
improvements and begin editing my trailer.
12 Production If it seems like I’ll have a lot of time to edit my
trailer I might make a second piece of music in
this week that I would use for the trailer however
if this doesn’t seem possible then I’ll use the
same track as was used in the scene and I will
continue to edit the trailer
13 Production As this is the last week of production I’d like to
finish editing both of my videos, making final
touches and checking to see if there are any
issues that can be fixed, and if I’ve done all my
planning and production properly by the end of
the week my production will be completed to the
point that I’m satisfied with the result.
I might try and get some feedback from my peers
at the start of the week just to make sure that my
finishing touches are focused in the right area of
production.
14 Evaluation Evaluation
I will be beginning evaluation this week so I will
be looking through all of my previous work to see
how I’ve improved, checking my reflections to
explain how I’ve felt about certain stages of the
project. I want to give a sense of how I’ve grown
over the course of this project and my time
making films to show how the effort I’ve put into
this project so I want to cover as many areas of
my work as possible in depth, I think that it’s
important to show that I’ve put thought and
understanding of the horror genre into all sorts of
areas and deatails in this project.
15 Evaluation Evaluation
5. In the second week of my evaluation I want to
analyse the feedback I get from peers and
possibly the reaction of my target audience. I’d
also use this week to evaluate where I could’ve
improved my project and what I thought work
well, I think this is important for my evaluation as
I want to show what I’ve learnt from this project
and how I can incorporate that into any films I
plan to make in the future.
16 Evaluation Presentation
In this week I’ll be making finishing touches to my
evaluation, filling in anything I haven’t been able
to write about such as any issues that occurred
before/during production. Any technical or
aesthetic aspects of my work that I want to focus
on. I would look at how well I managed my time
through planning and how this either helped or
restricted my production. I may also try to get
feedback from actors and crew members about
how they felt the production went.
17 Moderation
18 Show Preparation For the presentation of my finished work I will
need to settle on a location that I would like to
display my film scene and trailer so that I can get
my friends, family and possibly the puplic
interested in my work. For this event I will likely
need to invite lot’s of people, plan a date to do it
on and make a speech about my work and what
I’ve learnt throughout my two year couse. When
making my speech I want to connvey how doing
projects like this has helped me to grow my skills
and to bring me a clearer vision of the director I
want to become in the future.
In my presentation I could puase at certain point
to explain small details and choices that I made
during planning as well as where I want to go
with the concept that I’ll essentially be pitching.
19 Show There will be a showcase of students works at
college as well as an external showcase of my
own work that I will need to create, for my own
showcase I’m thinking of working with some of
my peers/friends to make a showcase of our
work that will draw in more people. So far wev’e
dicussed having the presentation in cafe 1278 or
possibly a pub however I reckon the cafe would
be a safer option.
