2. What is Logistics hub
 A logistics hub is a centre or specific area
designated to deal with activities related to
transportation, organization, separation,
coordination and distribution of goods for national
and international transit, on a commercial basis
by various operators.
 These operators may own, lease or rent the
buildings and/or the facilities of the hub. These
include warehouses, storage areas, distribution
centre, offices, trucking and shipping services.
 Logistics hub has been defined as the integrated
centres for transhipment, storage, collection, and
distribution of goods(Jorgensen, 2007)
 Logistics hubs provide not only traditional
activities such as storage, but also value-added
logistics services such as labelling, assembly,
semi-manufacturing, and customizing.
 These centres combine logistics and industrial
activities effectively in major port areas to create
country-specific and/or customer-specific
variations or generic products.
A PERFECT LOGISTICS HUB
 The Logistics Hub is intended to serve as a
catalyst for the development of a logistics-
centered economy, which encompasses the
broader initiatives supporting the business
reform, as well as policies aimed at unlocking
investments in the Micro, Small and Medium-
sized Enterprises (MSME) sector.
 Thus a logistics hub promotes growth, job
opportunities and prosperity in a country.

4. Multi-Modal Logistics Parks in
India
 Multi-Modal Logistics Parks (MMLPs) are a key
policy initiative of the Government of India to
improve the country's logistics sector by
lowering overall freight costs, reducing
vehicular pollution and congestion, and cutting
warehousing costs.
 India is burdened with high logistics costs,
which account for about 13% of the value of
goods sold in the economy compared with 8%
in other major economies.
 The average cost to export/import one
container in India is about 72% higher than in
China.
 Logistics Efficiency Enhancement Program
LEEP, which is spearheaded by the MoRTH
and the National Highways Authority of India
(NHAI), aims to
enhance freight transport in India by
reducing costs and time, and improving
the tracking and traceability of
consignments through infrastructural,
procedural, and information technology
interventions.
 The government defines an MMLP
as a freight-handling facility
encompassing a minimum area of
100 acres (40.5 hectares), with
various modes of transport access,
and comprising
• mechanized warehouses,
• specialized storage solutions such as
cold storage,
• facilities for mechanized material
handling and inter-modal transfer
container terminals, and
• bulk and break-bulk cargo terminals.

5.  Logistics parks will further provide
value-added services such as
• customs clearance with bonded
storage yards,
• quarantine zones,
• testing facilities, and
• warehousing management services.
 Provisions will also be made for late-
stage manufacturing activities such
as kitting and final assembly,
grading, sorting, labelling and
packaging activities, re-working, and
returns management

6. Examples in India
Multi Modal Logistics Hub, Noida
 Multimodal Logistics Hub (MMLH) has also been selected as one of the Early Bird Project in
Dadri-Noida-Ghaziabad Investment Region (DNGIR) in Uttar Pradesh (UP).
 The MMLH facility will support Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) towards achieving its
targeted potential by providing an integrated logistic facility for efficient storage/ transitioning
of goods to/from the UP sub-region of NCR.
 The proposed site of MMLH is strategically located between NH-91 and the Delhi-Howrah
line in close proximity to the point of congruence of the Western and Eastern Dedicated
Freight Corridor (DFC) and also the proposed freight corridor of Eastern Peripheral
Expressway.
 The total site area is approximately 293.8 Ha (725.6 acres). An additional area of 145.1 Ha
(358.56 acres) is earmarked for future expansion.

8. Ancon in HDMA
 Ancon Group in partnership with Hyderabad Metropolitan
Development Authority (HMDA) has opened Hyderabad’s
first Logistics Park at Bongulur, Mangalapally, Hyderabad
 The project touted to be the country’s first Logistics Park,
implemented under public private partnership route
 The logistics park is creating 800 and 1,500 indirect jobs.
Of this, 60 per cent will be skilled and 40 per cent will be
unskilled.
