INTRODUCTION OF MULTIMEDIA:
Multimedia is content that uses a combination of different content forms such as text, audio,
images, animations, video and interactive content. Multimedia contrasts with media that use
only rudimentary computer displays such as text-only or traditional forms of printed or hand-
produced material. Multimedia can be recorded and played, displayed, interacted with or
accessed by information content processing devices, such as computerized and electronic
devices, but can also be part of a live performance. Multimedia devices are electronic media
devices used to store and experience multimedia content.
Multimedia is distinguished from mixed media in fine art; for example, by including audio it has a
broader scope. The term "rich media" is synonymous with interactive multimedia.
Multimedia finds its application in various areas including, but not limited to, advertisements, art,
education, entertainment, engineering, medicine, mathematics, business, scientific research
and spatial temporal applications.

WHAT IS ANIMATION?
Animation is the process of making the illusion of motion and the illusion of change by means of
the rapid display of a sequence of images that minimally differ from each other. The illusion—as
in motion pictures in general—is thought to rely on the phi phenomenon. Animators are artists
who specialize in the creation of animation. Animation can be recorded with either analogue
media, a flip book, motion picture film, video tape, digital media, including formats with animated
GIF, Flash animation, and digital video. To display animation, a digital camera, computer, or
projector are used along with new technologies that are produced. Animation creation methods
include the traditional animation creation method and those involving stop motion animation of
two and three-dimensional objects, paper cutouts, puppets and clay figures. Images are
displayed in a rapid succession, usually 24, 25, 30, or 60 frames per second. Computer
animation processes generating animated images with the general term computer-generated
imagery (CGI). 3D animation uses computer graphics, while 2D animation is used for stylistic,
low bandwidth and faster real-time renderings.
WHAT IS 2D ANIMATION?
2D animation creates movement in a two-dimensional artistic space. Work in the field of 2D
animation requires both creativity and technological skills. Read on to learn about education and
career information related to this artistic practice.2D Animation is the process of making
hundreds of drawings and then having them animate by playing them in rapid succession. This
is the most common form of animation, and has been used for several decades across several
forms of media. Traditional 2D animation involves making a drawing and then making a second
drawing of the same thing, but with a very subtle change (such as a closed mouth to an open
mouth or a person taking one footstep). Hundreds, if not thousands, of unique drawings are
made that go from the beginning of a scene to the end of a scene. The drawings are then
shown in very rapid succession (typically 24 frames, or unique drawings, per second). This gives
the illusion that the numerous still images form a complete, fluid animation. This animation
process has been done for over 100 years. Although Walt Disney is often credited with making
2D animation with Mickey Mouse, he was not the first person to create a 2D animation.
7. WHAT IS 3D ANIMATION?
Animation is the process of making the illusion of motion and the illusion of change by means of
the rapid display of a sequence of images that minimally differ from each other. The illusion—as
in motion pictures in general is thought to rely on the phi phenomenon. Animators are artists
who specialize in the creation of animation. Animation can be recorded with either analogue

imagery (CGI). 3D animation uses computer graphics, while 2D animation is used for stylistic,
low bandwidth and faster real-time renderings.
DIFFERENTS BETWEEN 2D ANIMATION & 3D ANIMATION:
2D animation is the traditional animation method that has existed since the late 1800s.
It is one drawing followed by another in a slightly different pose, followed by another in a
slightly different pose, on and on for 24 frames a second. Traditionally these were put
together in an amazing process where artists drew pencil drawings of every frame of
film, then these images were painted onto clear plastic sheets called ‘cels’, and each of
the thousands of handrawn and painted cels were photographed one at a time over a
hand painted background image and those thousands of images compiled to run as film
at 24 frames a second.
3D animation (aside from stop-motion, which really is a form of 3D animation), is
completely in the computer. Things that you create in a 3D animation program exist in an
X, Y & Z world. Instead of a drawing of a globe, I have a sphere that can actually turn
360 degrees.3D objects, once modeled, can be treated almost as a physical object. You
can light it differently, you can move a camera to look at it from above, or below. In 2D
animation everything is drawn. “Moving the camera” in 2D means drawing everything
from another angle. “Moving the camera” in 3D is simply dragging it to another position
to see if you like it better.3D allows you to create realistic objects. You can use textures
and lighting to create objects that appear solid, and can even be integrated seamlessly
into live video elements.
8. TIME INVESTMENTS IN CREATING 3D AND 2D ANIMATIONS:
The time required for creating 3D and 2D Animations is completely dependent on the
assignment. There are some assignments that can be created very quickly while there are
others that take time. Time investment is also dependent on the request of the client and the
different creative factors used for creating the animations. It is to be noted that creating 3D
requires more time. This is because; it is a detailed procedure involving characters that have
long life spans. 2D Animations can also be created quickly for specific videos while the work for
the entire assignment is evenly distributed throughout the procedure. Creating 3D Animation
needs a very strong and clear understanding of the entire assignment between the animator
and the client. This is because a good amount of work is done during the initial rigging
procedure. This is the procedure where the computer compiles the animation work in video
format which takes some time. 2D Animation also takes time because animators need to draw
new positions and angles for character rigs in 2D Animation.
WHAT IS GRAPHICAL DESIGNING?
Graphic Design is the process of visual communication and problem-solving using one or more
of typography, photography and illustration. The Graphic designers create and combine
symbols, images and text to form visual representations of ideas and messages. They use
typography, visual arts and page layout techniques to create visual compositions. Common
uses of graphic design include corporate design (logos and branding), editorial design
(magazines, newspapers and books), way finding or environmental design, advertising, web
design, communication design, product packaging and signage. Adobe Photoshop, Corel draw,
Indesign and Adobe Illustrator these software’s are mainly used for graphical designing.
WHAT IS WEB DESIGNING?
Website design is the process of planning, creation and updating of websites. Website design
also involves information architecture, website structure, user interface, navigation ergonomics,
website layout, colors, contrasts, fonts and imagery (photography) as well as icons design.
All these website elements combined together form websites. Often, the meaning of "design" is
perceived solely as a visual aspect. In reality, website design includes more abstract elements
such as usability, ergonomics, layout traditions, user habits, navigation logic and other things
that simplify the using of websites and help to find information faster.
3D ANIMATION – AUTODESK MAYA:
Maya is an animation and modeling program used to create three-dimensional ( 3-D ), full-
motion effects. Maya incorporates the natural laws of physics to control the behavior of virtual
objects in computer animation. Maya can produce videos that are more life-like than has been
possible with less sophisticated programs. Versions are available for both IBM-compatible and
Macintosh operating systems. It’s a 3D computer graphics software that runs on Windows, mac
9. OS and Linux, originally developed by Alias Systems Corporation (formerly Alias |Wavefront)
and currently owned and developed by Autodesk, Inc. It is used to create interactive 3D
applications, including video games, animated film, TV series, or visual effects.
Maya has several different types of objects that you can use for different things. Most are used
for modeling objects, but there are some other "helper objects" that you can use for constructing
different elements in your scene.
Note: For a quick start on modeling polygon and NURBS primitives, and drawing curves, see
Create basic 3D objects and curves.
Polygon objects:
Often called polygon meshes, polygon objects are 3D geometric objects made up of
faces, edges, and vertices. Polygon meshes are widely used for many types of 3D models
created for games, film, and internet. See Polygonal Modeling for more information on what
polygon meshes are, and all the ways in which you can create and edit them.
NURBS (Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines) surface objects:
NURBS surface objects are 3D geometric objects made up of patches defined by curves in the
U and V directions. The surface is interpolated between control points, resulting in a smooth
shape. NURBS are useful for constructing organic 3D forms because they are smooth, and are
used largely for industrial design, animation, and scientific visualization. See NURBS Modeling
and NURBS overview for more information on what NURBS are, and all the ways in which you
can create and edit them.
NURBS Curves:
Curves are used for constructing objects, or as other elements in a scene. You can create 3D
objects from curves in different ways, or use them for things like motion paths for animation or
for controlling deformations.
TEXT:
Text is 3D text that you can create using the Type tool - choose Create > Type. This lets you
create branding, flying logos, title sequences, and other projects that require text.
CONTRUCTION plans:
Construction planes are simple planes that make it easier to create objects that have
orientations other than along XYZ axes - choose Create > Construction Plane. When you make
a construction plane “live” with the Make Live tool (see Set a live surface), all drawing is locked
to the plane.
10. IMAGE plans:
Image planes are 2D planes (grids) onto which you can "project" different images, usually used
for reference images as you model an object, or as a background image for your scene. You
can create either free images planes that are not attached to a camera (choose Create > Free
Image Plane), or attached to a perspective camera (choose View > Image Plane > Import Image
in a perspective view panel).
LOCATORS:
Sometimes called nulls, locators are icon-like objects that only represent a position in space,
and aren't rendered - choose Create > Locator. Although locators don't sound like much, they
are useful helper objects, such as for being a parent for character joints, objects to which you
can constrain another object, or measuring distance between two points.
Maya can be used to:
Create virtual 3D objects (Modeling)
Visualize design and materialization (Materials and textures)
Animate objects (Animation)
Add effects to the 3d model (Effects)
Calculate light behavior (Rendering)
Customize tools (Scripting)
Export the data to another program or machine (Data Exchange)
Using Maya for visualizations:
You can use Maya to create visualization at several stages of the design process:
Conceptual design
research design decisions regarding the basic shape and geometry of the design, but
also properties such as colors, patterns and texture.
Preliminary design
Communicate the design between the actors in the design process (the specialists), but
also to other stakeholders.
Final design
create photo-realistic or hyper-realistic detailed renderings of the design to communicate
the design to your clients or other stakeholders.
