BBA 5TH Semester
The term ‘Labour Welfare’ refers to the facilities provided to
workers in and outside the factory premises such as canteens,
rest and recreation facilities, housing and all other services
that contribute to the wellbeing of workers. Welfare measures
are concerned with general wellbeing and efficiency of
workers.
The state had to intervene, in discharge of its welfare
responsibility, compulsory provisions are thus incorporated in
the Factories Act, 1948 with respect to the health, safety and
welfare of workers engaged in the manufacturing process.

 Sec. 13 : Temperature and Ventilation
 Sec. 14 : Dust and Fumes
 Sec. 15 : Artificial Humidity
 Sec. 16 : Overcrowding
 Sec. 17 : Lighting
 Sec. 18 : Drinking water
 Sec. 19 : Washroom and Urinals
 Sec. 21 : Fencing of machinery
 Sec. 28 : Prohibits working of women and
children on specific machinery
 Sec. 32: Floors, stairs, passages and
gangways should be properly constructed
and maintained
 Sec. 35 : Protection to eyes
 Sec. 38 : Proper precautionary measures
built for fire
 Sec. 42 : Washing Facilities
 Sec. 43 : Facility for drying and storage of
clothes
 Sec. 44 : Facility for sitting
 Sec. 45 : First Aid Appliances
 Sec. 46 : Canteen
 Sec. 47 : Shelter, rest rooms, and lunch
rooms
 Sec. 49 : Welfare Officer
 Sec. 50 : Power to make rules to supplement
 Sec. 19 : Drinking Water
 Sec. 20 : Conservancy (Washrooms and
Urinals)
 Sec. 21 : Medical Appliances
Notice, Prevention, and investigation of
Accidents and Diseases.
 Drinking water, conservancy, medical
facilities, Annual leave with wages, sickness
and maternity benefits.
 Welfare
Canteens for 150+ workers, educational, and
housing facilities.
Given in Factory Act :
 Sec. 19 : Toilets and Urinals,
Sec. 27 : Prohibition of employing women and
children near cotton openers.
 Sec. 66 : Further restrictions on employment
of women - no flex on working hrs, no change
of shifts except after holiday.

  • 2. The term ‘Labour Welfare’ refers to the facilities provided to workers in and outside the factory premises such as canteens, rest and recreation facilities, housing and all other services that contribute to the wellbeing of workers. Welfare measures are concerned with general wellbeing and efficiency of workers. The state had to intervene, in discharge of its welfare responsibility, compulsory provisions are thus incorporated in the Factories Act, 1948 with respect to the health, safety and welfare of workers engaged in the manufacturing process.
