A devastating earthquake in May 2008 in Wenchuan County, China caused massive casualties, billions in economic losses, and destruction to vital healthcare infrastructure in the region. Already facing megatrends in China of rapid urbanization, technological growth, and an aging population, leaders in the rural county were tasked with a difficult problem: how to revitalize the area's healthcare system.
