1) The document outlines activities exploring smart sensors and piezoelectric materials. Activities include evading motion detection, taking tours of different sensors, building a microphone using PVDF film, and exploring the piezo effect.
2) A design project had students create a coin counter using the piezoelectric response of PVDF to different coin masses.
3) A final project was developing a gas detecting oven that uses a gas detector and alarm to automatically shut off gas and electricity if a leak is detected, and notify authorities. The goal was to reduce fires, explosions and poisonings from undetected gas leaks.

Conclusion : The motion detector can sense any movement within a cone shape distance . It can
sense high speed movements
It can detect anything with heat or thermal energy around it because of the moving molecules
.The motion detector can sense thermal heat using a PDV film.
5. Activity 2: Take a tour of some sensors
• Conclusion: each device or object has a unique
stimuli and response depending on it purpose .
6. Activity 3 : making a microphone
Conclusion: when the PVDF is attached to the substrate the sound
becomes clear.
Both films respond better to scratching and flicking than talking and
blowing .
The flexible film respond better than the rigid film in the
range of frequencies reproduced

7. Activity 4:
Exploring the piezo effect :
The inside story
Part A : we used the molecular model kit to build the monomer C2F2H2
Part B : building the PVDF polymer
Part C : when bending the film we noticed that bending in one direction
produces a positive voltage and bending in the opposite direction produce
negative voltage . The faster the bending the larger the potential .

electricity

Part A : as the mass of the ball
increases the voltage increases
because the pressure applied to
the PVDF is higher . The grater
the drop height , the greater the
pressure which results in high
voltage . Using a substrate will
give a higher voltage than the
free film because the substrate
will cause more vibration to the
film .
Part B : we noticed how heat can
cause the PVDF film to produce
high voltage .

10. Final Project:
(Title: gas detecting oven )
.Recently , people are facing fires , carbon monoxide poisoning and explosions
because of an undetected gas leakage .
We created an oven that contain a gas detector and alarm . If gas leakage was
detected the alarm will produce an alert and then the processing unit will
automatically shut down the electricity in the area as well as the gas cylinder
controller . And the civil defense will get a message that the location is suffering
from a gas leakage by the use of the processing unit and GPS .
We aim that these two innovation will have an influence on peoples life and that
will reduce fires , carbon monoxide poisoning and explosions that are caused by
gas leakage.

Hypothesis
We hypothesis that the gas detecting oven will avoid
fires that are caused by a gas leakage in the
community and reduce the carbon monoxide poising
and explosions.

Methods and Materials
we are going to use oven and attach a gas
detector and alarm to it , to detect the gas
leakage . And an alarm that would produce an
alert if gas was detected around the area .

15. Conclusions
(Overall of the whole module)
Albairaq workshop really increased our knowledge of
smart sensors . And this knowledge helped us to
innovate products that will reduce the fires , carbon
monoxide poisoning and explosions that are caused
by gas leakage . Because recently , people are facing
many of these situations because of an undetected
gas leakage .
