Like the internet and GPS before them, drones are evolving
beyond their military origin to become powerful business
tools. They’ve already made the leap to the consumer
market, and now they're being put to work in commercial and
civil government applications from firefighting to farming.

There is one area of the market which is perhaps the biggest one of all, upon
which everything else needs to be demonstrated to provide evidence before
we can even get started.

What do I mean, well let me tell you a story…this is my family
COMMERCIAL IN CONFIDENCE
My wife and children live in Jerez, Spain – and before my children get too old we wanted them to go
and see Santa in Lapland. I live in London. So how did we achieve the boys dream together?

It’s a story of our journey and a desire to change
the way we get from one place to another

This is the current situation for mobility in our lives
Left home at 0530, got in to drive to Jerez Airport, through security and to Madrid. to get the
from one terminal to another. to London Heathrow. Then to get a to London Gatwick off-
airport parking. to take a to South Terminal. onto the that flew us to Helsinki airport. after
landing to our hotel for the night at 2345…
Up at 0650 to then and get the to Kittila Airport where we froze at -25°C as we to catch our airport
that took us to our accommodation in Levi and to see Santa.
And at the end of the holiday we did the same in reverse!

There must be a better solution for mobility and transport for all of us…
Did you count how many different modes of transport we used?
18 !
But hold on, aren’t the big players already working on this?
btw it was worth
it to see Santa…

"Sure, safety, access, and convenience are important, but the reason there is so
much money going into [AVs] is because of the potential cost savings from getting
rid of the human driver. … That's where the real money is going to be made."
Gill Pratt, CEO of the Toyota Research Institute
“The real challenge, is developing a vehicle that can drive in
very difficult domains, such as rainy weather or crowded roads.
That's level five of auto autonomy and I wouldn't be surprised if
it's 2075 before we get there.”

Unlike many other flying car concepts revealed recently the Switchblade will not
have vertical take-off or land (VTOL) and the car will take off naturally if the wings
were extended at around speed of 80mph. To operate the vehicle you would need
a driving licence and privates pilot licence, max range 450km.

Airbus Project Vahana being used by everyday commuters as a
cost-comparable replacement for short-range urban transportation
like cars or trains. speeds will be 2-4x faster than cars or traffic, and
have a flight range of about 50 miles (80 km)

TaaS (transport as a service) is lacking a coherent vision

• Self-driving cars are being tailored for short-range inter urban transport
and for the individual
• Flying cars are being designed for either short-range journeys or
require licences (PPL) that the consumer is unlikely to get
Drones create lift and a vast amount of both noise and air
disturbance. In New York City there were fewer than
5,000 tourist helicopter flights per month. Imagine if all of
the city’s eight million residents took even one flight every
few weeks: the city would become unlivable.
Carlo Ratti – MIT (Senseable City Lab)
No TaaS product is considering the pooling of
energy as part of that solution to the demands of
mass population movement, to mitigate the fear of
an uncontrollable volume of flying objects
