In constructing this product, the author learned to use several new technologies:
Blogger for creating a blog to present their work, SlideShare for sharing presentations with a wider audience, and photography equipment like cameras, tripods, and lighting setups for taking professional photos. The author also learned to use image editing software like Photoshop for tasks like inserting images, adding text, and coordinating colors. For laying out text and images on pages, the author learned desktop publishing software like InDesign, which allows linking text columns, images, and adapting text to image shapes.

Evaluation Question 6
1. Q6: What have you learnt about
technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
2. In the preproduction process (researching and planning) I used a lot of new
programmes and technologies I did not know before or never have used yet.
Blog – creating a blog is the most essential task for this coursework as I use
it to present my media product and all the steps it took to create it. There are
a lot of different programmes available to use for creating a blog.
As I already had a google account I decided to use Blogger.
It is easy to use as it is clearly structured and I had no problem to orient
myself on this page.
I learnt how to put hyperlinks on the blog as well as how to upload
presentations, videos and images. Creating your individual design and layout
is also very simple mainly because of the on-screen menu.
Having a blog is the easiest way to publish work on the internet so I am really
glad I know now how to deal with blogger and that I am able to use all the
offered features.
3. SlideShare – it is the world’s largest community
for sharing presentations. As it is not possible to
upload a PowerPoint presentation on blogger but
also a lot of my work is presented this way I had to
find a way to present my plans and researches.
Using SlideShare made it not only possible to
upload presentations on to my blog but is also an
opportunity to share this work with a wider
audience. As not many people know about my blog
the readership is not very big but due to SlideShare
a lot of people have access to my ideas and can
benefit from them.
4. Also in the Production process was the need for special programmes and technologies
to create a proper front cover, contents page and double spread page for a music
magazine.
Photography and Camerawork – a bad picture can destroy
your whole work and cannot be settled with editing
programmes! This is the basic idea which makes this one of the
most important steps and things I have learnt.
For the perfect picture you need a photography studio with a
white screen and the right lighting on the sides. I learnt how to
set the lighting right and where it has to be positioned so the
model is perfectly emphasised.
The next thing you need is a tripod. This is essential as it helps to
take a clear image without blurring. It makes it also possible to
take high and low angle shots as you can tilt it up and down as
well as extend and lower it.
The last but of course crucial part of the required equipment is
the camera. I had already used pocket cameras which is for sure
in no comparison with a good digital camera. I learnt how to set
the right acuity and how to use the rule of thirds. I know now
how to take professional pictures from different angels and with
various light settings.
5. Photoshop – it is an image editing
software developed and manufactured by
Adobe Systems Inc.
I have never used Photoshop before so I
learned a lot. This includes how do deal
with layers, how to insert images and add
texts. With the help of this editing
programme it was easy to coordinate
different shades of colours which gave the
page a serious look and ordered structure.
Photoshop made it possible to position
parts of images over a text and also to
change the background of some pictures.
There are a lot of various tools all with
different features. I know now when to use
the eraser, the eyedropper tool, the brush
tool and the blur tool as well as the
different ways of cropping and cutting out
special features and combining them with
others.
6. InDesign – is a desktop publishing software
application produced by Adobe Systems.
To deal with a lot of text like when writing the
article on the double spread page the best
programme to use is InDesign. You insert the image
you want to use for this page edited from
Photoshop and also draw a connection between
those two programmes. This means if you change
any appearances of your image in Photoshop they
will automatically assigned to the image in InDesign.
This publishing software allows the user to link the
text columns so that if you reduce the size of one
and less text fits into it the words automatically
appear in the next column. Another efficient tool is
the pen tool which makes it possible to let the text
adapt the shape of the image. This leads to a
smooth appearance of the page. The rulers enable
the user to find the right position for the image and
text boxes. The programme also arranges columns
evenly spread over the page so the user does not
have to draw and position them by themselves.
